To think we shouldn’t treat a prisoner like this?

A concrete slab to sleep on, no television, no music? Surely that’s just not right?

@YouWouldNotBelieve

He only wants to kill pedophiles. I think the police should leave him to it because the world would be a better place if they didn't exist, otherwise explain to him that their lives can be put to good use and enforce that.

I don't agree that prison is the right place for this man, nor do I believe that his environment is suitable. His no quality of a life is being wasted

No he mostly certainly will have a history of seriously assaulting staff hence the need for 6 prison guards for his one hour of recreation time. Why should staff be in danger ? They haven't committed a crime ,are poorly paid and at risk of sadistic violence . He will be secluded because the risk assessments say he poses a grave risk to the wider prison population and staff .

@Atozofpoodles

He deserves a medal not this.
A medal for what, exactly?
Theunamedcat · 20/11/2021 20:03

I'm assuming people think he deserves a medal for killing paedophiles honestly my knee jerk reaction is "I struggle to feel sympathy for people who hurt children" but that's a normal human response (I hope) however the level of violence he inflicted the sheer amount of aggression and force that was used disgusts me he does deserve to be locked up people do need protecting from him he is not the sort of person I would ever like to share a country with let alone a street city or town

As we have been assured by another poster that he does have access to his basic needs and more I'm sure he won't need the outrage of mumsnet

Killing Paedos!!! that’s what. I’d personally give him a Knighthood i don’t know about a medal.
I’ve got no problem whatsoever with saying that. Nor will I be offering any apologies

mbosnz · 20/11/2021 20:18

I will never condone vigilantism. I also don't condone denying prisons fundamental human rights unless necessary to ensure their wellbeing and safety, and more importantly, those of others.

The fact that you have no problem with saying that is deeply disturbing. I hope you are never allowed to serve on a jury.
Bloodypunkrockers · 20/11/2021 20:29

I have no sympathy for paedophiles

I have no sympathy for murderers either

It's not a hierarchy. Neither is better than the other.

Thank fuck the few posters who think he is any better than a paedophile don't have any clout.

He didn't target paedophile, when he killed his last two victims he was trying to lure anyone he could back to his cell - when he couldn't he entered someone else's cell to murder him.

Read about what he did to his victims. Imagine the horror of being the prison officer who found the bodies. Imagine having to clean that up and deal with the aftermath. Imagine how much that might fuck a person up just doing their job.

If you still think someone like that deserves a medal (alright daily mail) then you should have a long, hard look at yourself

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/11/2021 21:59

What about what Paedophiles do to kids. Are we not going to mention that!!!Angry

Not the point.

I mean that the crimes of paedophiles don't justify lauding the crimes of a dangerous prisoner. Those paedophiles have been sentenced according to the law and nothing justifies vigilante attitudes and behaviour. If Maudsley murders people he is a dangerous prisoner, whoever his victims are, not someone to be applauded.

Why is that relevant?

He's a murderer.

Notashandyta · 20/11/2021 22:23

This is so so sad.

I think he should be allowed a TV. And the means by which to commit suicide to be frank.

This is torture and is helping noone. The thought of one of our children having his upbringing and ending up this way... Sad

slashlover · 20/11/2021 22:24

@aprilanne

And the fact he is not in a hospital but prison shows he is not ill just a nasty piece of work .and a shit childhood cant be blamed on everything his brother did not do those things .
He was originally in Broodmoor as it was decided he need psychiatric help. He killed someone in there so it is not thought to be secure enough to house him.
Penistoe · 20/11/2021 22:30

I don’t understand why he can’t have a television. Surely if he is in a glass box it can be on the outside. He could have one that changes Chanel with voice and use it to listen to music.

Penistoe · 20/11/2021 22:30

100% this.
DrSbaitso · 20/11/2021 23:38

Loving all these "just let him kill himself" posts, as if legalising assisted suicide is that simple and without further consequence or implication, and as if decisions about it should be based on cases like this one.

Also loving the suggestion that anyone who's not in favour of letting prisoners or anyone else appoint themselves judge, jury and executioner as they wish somehow doesn't care about paedophilia.

This is what happens when morality becomes performative and all about competitive outrage rather than what is actually necessary for the most ethical outcomes possible.

Peacocking · 21/11/2021 01:42

A TV with subtitles sitting outside can't pose a risk to anyone. Audiobooks can be played - the cell can't be fully soundproof. There will be a section that people can speak to him through that music/TV or audio books could play through. If the ceiling of the cell is out of reach (unquestionably so) then that would leave scope for in-cell additions. Just some little ways that he can have a tiny bit of self determination and to give his brain something to keep busy with.

Obviously-he may already have some of these things or other forms of enrichment that haven't been reported...

AJGranny · 21/11/2021 01:44

@IamtheDevilsAvocado

The punishment is losing their freedom.

Treating them inhumanely doesn't reflect well on society.

We don't want to be a society of kangaroo courts / tortuous treatment of prisoners.

I couldn't agree more. To my mind the punishment is the loss of liberty and removal from society. To then go on and treat inmates so appallingly achieves nothing.
Solidaritea · 21/11/2021 06:03

This man deserves to have as many rights as possible without those rights infringing on the rights of others. I very strongly suspect that is what he is given. The article's evidence is a letter from the prisoner. They've no pictures of his cell today or testimony from others.

Would you want to be in the group of six guards going in to take him out of the cell every day? Those people are protected because he has no access to things that could be made in to weapons. I hope that he does have access to, eg., a tv and music safely. But so many things can be dangerous when in determined hands.

Those praising him for killing peadophiles and murderers are spectacularly missing the point. He didn't choose to kill those people because he thought they deserved it. He killed the people he had access to. As he was in max security prison, those people were mostly murderers and peadophiles.

@YoComoManzanas

I imagine the parents of the 7yo girl Bill Roberts molested thought he did a good job....? Very tricky. Theres no reason why he couldn't have a tv played outside the viewing screen and music controlled by an alexa or similar. He would probably be safe to put in a womens prison too. Very tricky case and it seems he has been failed as a youngster. Also don't trust the daily express reporting though. Hmm. Thought provoking case.
@YoComoManzanas Safe in a woman's prison?? Why would you inflict him on the women? They don't have high security prisons so he would be in with petty thieves and women who have not paid their TV licence 🙄
Dinosauria · 21/11/2021 07:57

????? Words fail me.

DrSbaitso · 21/11/2021 08:00

Anyone suggesting he be put in a women's prison is surely just having a (very unfunny) laugh.
