To think we shouldn’t treat a prisoner like this?

A concrete slab to sleep on, no television, no music? Surely that’s just not right?

his motivations for killing people were because they were showing pictures of kids they had abused and a man who murdered his wife.

His murders were sadistic and torturous, even if one wishes to overlook the fact that they were outside of the law. Some people just need a reason and a supposedly moralistic one works better.

@Atozofpoodles

He deserves a medal not this.
Did you read the article. Him and another inmate tortured one prisoner to death and then dangled his posed dead body for the guards to see. What kind of medal do you get for that? A Hannibal Lecter badge?
Puttingthekettleon · 20/11/2021 10:17

Not while in solitary confinement @Stompythedinosaur

@Puttingthekettleon

If he’s locked up, he can’t kill them.
Not true. He's a danger to fellow inmates and they have run out of any other options for keeping him and others safe.
Puttingthekettleon · 20/11/2021 10:19

How would he kill someone in solitary confinement, @ilovesooty?

I’m not being obtuse. I genuinely am not seeing what you are.

He’s an exceptionally violent man. That should not be rewarded.

No I meant he has to be kept in solitary confinement and any opportunities to create weapons removed because he is so dangerous.
DrSbaitso · 20/11/2021 10:23

Slow handclaps to posters who would reward sadistic murders, complete with posed and displayed bodies, with medals and the idea that they improve the world.

Like I said, some people just need a reason. Go you for validating it. Nice one. You think this makes you a better human?

They'll also be concerned about him killing himself

In this case YANBU. I'm with Atozofpoodles on this one.

Why? Why would you reward him?
Puttingthekettleon · 20/11/2021 10:26

I certainly am not in favour of people being tortured to death, even if I don’t shed any tears on an individual basis it isn’t the set up of a civilised society, but no access to any sort of entertainment is horrendous.

The poor man - it's a desperately sad story Sad

A lifetime of abuse and misery, poor mental health, and now locked up like that.

I know it's to keep him and others safe, it's just terribly sad.

YoComoManzanas · 20/11/2021 10:27

I imagine the parents of the 7yo girl Bill Roberts molested thought he did a good job....?
Very tricky. Theres no reason why he couldn't have a tv played outside the viewing screen and music controlled by an alexa or similar. He would probably be safe to put in a womens prison too. Very tricky case and it seems he has been failed as a youngster.
Also don't trust the daily express reporting though.
Hmm. Thought provoking case.

IncompleteSenten · 20/11/2021 10:27

Clearly everything he could possibly use to hurt himself or a guard has been removed. I doubt they built that cell for the hell of it

I do feel though that if someone wants to die that should be their choice.

It is, it’s horrible. But he’s probably already demonstrated he can’t be trusted with any form of entertainment; anything can be smashed up and used as a weapon.
KurtWilde · 20/11/2021 10:27

He was nicknamed Hannibal the Cannibal after being accused of eating an inmates brain. That was later found to be false.

Very good point. He could indeed have a TV outside the glass. Have audio books played and so on.
teaandtoastwithmarmite · 20/11/2021 10:29

Yanbu this is awful. Tbh I'd think at least he's getting rid of the bastards. I mean, I know they can't let him do that but he's going after the evil ones and likely needs help after what he went through. Poor bloke.

Pumperthepumper · 20/11/2021 10:29

Not if he’s in a soundproof cell. Which he could well be.

CounsellorTroi · 20/11/2021 10:31

It is, it’s horrible. But he’s probably already demonstrated he can’t be trusted with any form of entertainment; anything can be smashed up and used as a weapon.

As a pp suggested, if he’s in a glass cage why can’t tv be set up outside?

DrSbaitso · 20/11/2021 10:32

You can be repulsed by the terrible actions of a bad person without celebrating the horror and sadism of their murder. Some might even say it's better not to. Once again...some people just need a reason to do something horrific and it's best not to validate it.

It's actually quite facile and self-serving.

Saucery · 20/11/2021 10:32

I wouldn’t reward him, but he could have the basics of books, music on a device outside his cell but controlled by him, TV the same. Basics such as other prisoners have. Sensory deprivation until he dies is not something we should be doing to any prisoner.

I haven’t seen his cage but I’d imagine it’s soundproof, and I’d imagine it’s not clear glass.

@YoComoManzanas You want to put one of the most violent men in history in a women's prison? Any man for that matter.
