Would you be happy if the feet of your newly installed kitchen looked like this? New quartz worktop due to go in shortly, wickes installation manager thinks this is absolutely fine.

AIBU to think I should be getting a better install for a kitchen I have paid wickes £15,000 to supply and install?

Well will they be fitting kickboards?

Looks like what you normally get behind kickboards, but not on show?

Justmuddlingalong · 19/11/2021 16:42

That does indeed look like a botched job. Call customer complaints and then use Wickes social media pages with photos.

Glittertwins · 19/11/2021 16:43

I'd prefer the feet to be perfectly vertical to ensure there were no future problems if with a lack of support

Crappykitchen · 19/11/2021 16:43

Yes kick boards will be installed. I get that it isn't going to look pretty but the legs are buckling and are stacked on bits of wood that are toppling over. The worktop is heavy and I'm not convinced they will take the weight.

That first picture has one foot at a wonky angle.

Crappykitchen · 19/11/2021 16:44

I'm going through the complaints process now but they are useless.

Why on earth didn’t they at least brush out the debris where the legs are!

Even if it was £1,500 it’s still botched.

Crappykitchen · 19/11/2021 16:46

Our quote included floor levelling and it wasn't that out of level in the first place so I'm baffled as to why some feet are stacked on 1 bit of wood, some 2 and some flat on the floor

This is mine, with quartz top. Great fitter.

My husband was a builder and has fitted many kitchens. He said the legs should be straight and should not be raised on chipboard because if any moisture gets into the chipboard it will rot. Hope that helps. We have always had good customer support from Wickes though never had a kitchen fitted by them as my husband did ours.

Crappykitchen · 19/11/2021 16:49

The debris is there because they had to take up a tiled floor that they also botched. The 'tiler' thought he could lay the whole kitchen floor in 3 hours with no spacers, it was a disaster

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 19/11/2021 16:53

As others have said.

They should have cleared the mess
Chip board spacers will rot out
The legs should be straight, that's the point of them being load bearing.

Don't let them do any more work until all of that has been corrected. That's ridiculous.

SolasAnla · 19/11/2021 17:03

The floor should have been clean with no "stone" chips and level to start with.
That floor was not levelled using a levelling product. Ask the manager to explain what should have been done.

I presume the legs on the chipboard were placed there as the individual legs were too short to reach the floor.

As Jjjayfee pointed out the chipboard will decay over time the units will sag and the stone will develop fracture along the unsupported sections

Don't allow the tops to be installed until the floor is fixed

goodwinter · 19/11/2021 17:22

There's clearly not been any floor levelling done underneath the cupboards! I wouldn't be happy.

Crappykitchen · 19/11/2021 17:24

They screeded the floor after installing the units, so only the parts that they were tiling got screeded

Kuachui · 19/11/2021 17:25

its botched yes, my legs are straight and my floor is leveled, if theyve had to put the legs on something then they havent leveled the floor

Wombat46 · 19/11/2021 17:25

Yep, we took up tiles & the floor was prepared with self-levelling compound. Yours should look like my picture if it was levelled properly.

My guy used a laser to set the levels for the units. He was saying not everyone does but that it's easy to do.

Row1n · 19/11/2021 17:27

Thats shocking. Id be asking if they would be willing to give you a free replacement then once the chipboard rots away and the whole thing collapses and get it in writing! If they wont stand to that then they know its shit and are bluffing

Crappykitchen · 19/11/2021 17:28

This is the reply from the installation manager...

In reference the legs being on Block. This is not a problem as rooms often run out and legs only have a certain amount of adjustment on them. The units are also fixed to the wall so there is no chance of them moving, the leg that has been knocked over can be straightened when we are fitting the plinths.

The panel which has been damaged can easily be replaced.'

I fitted my own kitchen and honestly it looks a damned site better than that and my day job is as an accountant rather than any kind of useful trade. I'd expect the legs to be straight and to the floor with the debris removed as the bare minimum.

TotallySuper · 19/11/2021 17:30

It's not good but can all be easily fixed. Keep on them.

This My partner is a gardener and I am a community nurse....we fitted out our kitchen ourselves ( apart from the worktop) ....it did not look like yours 😳
Wallywobbles · 19/11/2021 17:40

Well DH would have had a heart attack if someone left him with that mess. Our stables are better than that. And I fitted them out.

bumblefeline · 19/11/2021 17:41

I have just had a Wickes kitchen installed and mine don't look like that.

We have been dealing with Wickes customer care as our fitting was shambolic and we are still waiting on remedial work since July. They have been ok but can't find any fitters with availability.

Clymene · 19/11/2021 17:41

That is bloody awful. Surely the point of levelling the floor is that they don't need to put badly placed blocked under the feet?
