Would you be happy if the feet of your newly installed kitchen looked like this? New quartz worktop due to go in shortly, wickes installation manager thinks this is absolutely fine.

AIBU to think I should be getting a better install for a kitchen I have paid wickes £15,000 to supply and install?

@Crappykitchen

I've done it again with *@wickes* in the body of the message.
Good work, you could reply to this tweet too asking why your kitchen is nowhere close to this standard?

saddowizca · 20/11/2021 08:00

Sorry OP, I see you have actually covered the issue of the tiles
It seems quite common for people not to tile under cupboards though, if previous houses I've lived in are anything to go by.

tanstaafl · 20/11/2021 09:12

OP just looked again at the flooring pic you posted.
Zooming in the “tiler” hasn’t bothered to spread the adhesive across the area and lay the tiles , it’s look like they’ve only put a minimum amount of adhesive to allow a tile to be stuck.
I can see the white foam underlay in between the tiles.

This lot have give cowboy fitters a bad name.

Booksandwine80 · 20/11/2021 09:18

Missing the point of the thread but £15,000 for a Wickes kitchen?! Shock

billysboy · 20/11/2021 09:27

That looks like a fur lined ocean going fuck up ! I am sorry that you are going through this

If the legs were designed to go on blocks and on the wonk it will spec this somewhere surely

If the chip board rots they will start to drop , fixed to the wall or not

The mess left under the cupboards tells you all you need to know about the care taken with this installation

looks like your tiles have been dot and dabbed rather than a full bed underneath

billysboy · 20/11/2021 09:35

Also check the height of the finished worktop to the floor should be 900mm

The whole floor should have been self levelled

Naughtynovembertree · 20/11/2021 09:40

I don't know thinking they are rated on which magazine.
15 grand op?!

Crappykitchen · 20/11/2021 09:54

£15,000 with all the electrics and other works that should have been done and the quartz worktops are included in that as well, they are over £2000 on their own. Things ain't cheap these days.

You're definitely in the right, OP - this is shocking. An abysmal bodge job, and, like pps, I'm aghast at the little bits of chipboard and all the rubble left under the units. WTF were they thinking?

You'll win through, I'm sure, but it might take persistence. DH and I had a long battle against a well-known national chain once who flatly refused to come out and inspect a shoddy piece of work, but we just kept on at them (for months) until we got through to a senior person who agreed. They took one look and authorised a full refund, so it can be done.

wertheppl · 20/11/2021 10:16

The actual kitchen looks lovely I'm sure it will be fab in the end.

The legs are bucking there is no two ways about it. More than one as well! They need to come off the boards and be on the ground flat and straight. The one they put near a big gap 🙈 seriously! We are not builders and we know that is just plain stupid!

I would contact customer services or complaints whoever you are dealing with and tell them they have 5 working days to rectify the problem or you will be getting it fixed professionally by another firm and the bill will be coming off your total. Shame it's on finance or you would have a bit more leverage with holding final payment.

Get some quotes from local joiners/companies to fix the problem. I don't even imagine it's that big a job. I wouldn't put the worktops in when it looks like that you don't want to have further issues down the road.

EL1984 · 20/11/2021 18:12

Agree the legs should be straight and not propped up by tiny bits of wood. Looks unstable, you'd want it to last 20-30yrs.
Reminds me of rides I've seen in winter wonderland stacked up with planks of wood 😳

Crappykitchen · 22/11/2021 12:59

Just a quick update, customer services are also agreeing that this is absolutely fine and that there is nobody within the whole of Wickes who can inspect it except the installer himself! Angry

Now looking into getting an independent inspection

Did you email the ceo?

MintJulia · 22/11/2021 13:07

Wow, Wickes have really gone down hill since they went public. They used to send out an assessor.

I hope you get it sorted quickly. Independent assessor and then Trading Standards. Good luck.

Crappykitchen · 22/11/2021 13:16

Yeah I have emailed CEO he doesn't reply, from what I can see online he doesn't reply to anyone.

Absolute shit show of a company

jesper1 · 22/11/2021 13:17

I had an issue with Wickes and my bathroom
I messaged David Wood on linked in and got response
We got a full refund in the end and went elsewhere

Werehamster · 22/11/2021 13:30

When you message the CEO, it doesn't actually go to the CEO. It will go to an assistant who is assigned to deal with these emails. They will most likely just forward them to the shop to deal with.

I hope you can get it sorted out though. it looks shoddy as hell!

ChequerBoard · 22/11/2021 13:41

OP, who is going to be installing the quartz worktop? We had ours fitted last week and it was done by a specialist workshop fitting company, separate to the company we purchased our kitchen from.

If you could find out who that will be, you could contact them with your photos and ask if they will be happy to fit quartz in this circumstance.

If they refuse (which they should if they are honest and know what they are doing) it will help with getting Wickes to fix the shoddy job they have done.

LawnFever · 22/11/2021 13:43

Absolutely shocking!

I saw they replied to you on Twitter, follow that up, and I’d reply to every one of their recent posts with images of your kitchen and keep doing it until they sort it.

Crappykitchen · 22/11/2021 13:44

It is sheridans doing the worktop, it is subcontracted via wickes. I have made them aware and their customer service person said that if it was her she wouldn't want the worktops installed, everything just gets handed back to wickes though and they simply do not give a shit and have no shame.

It cannot be right that the only person who inspects shoddy work is the person that did the shoddy work Confused

ThackeryBinks · 22/11/2021 13:47

I'm not being funny but we just tiled our own kitchen. It took all weekend, and on the Saturday I had a massive hangover and was not my best self! On Sunday DP was hungover and I took over all grouting duties! The tiling we did by 2 hungover non professionals looks better than yours. I'd ask that manager your dealing with if he's forgotten his spec savers appointment?!

billy1966 · 22/11/2021 13:50

Shocking job, do not accept it.

Tell the manager that you will start uploading the pictures on twitter with his reply if he doesn't sort it.

Do not accept this.

1forAll74 · 22/11/2021 14:18

Yes a shoddy job, despite you not seeing them when all is done. A good craftsman would not leave stuff like this.

mm40 · 22/11/2021 14:27

That is a shit install….. no-one with any skills would have been happy leaving it like that.
