Would you be happy if the feet of your newly installed kitchen looked like this? New quartz worktop due to go in shortly, wickes installation manager thinks this is absolutely fine.

AIBU to think I should be getting a better install for a kitchen I have paid wickes £15,000 to supply and install?

Worktops are due on 30/11, they've already been postponed once because the designer left out an essential panel that was needed to support it. That's why Im pushing to get it sorted ASAP.

@crappykitchen
I have found the contact details for you. I can't seem to pm you, please send me a message and I'll forward the details to you 😊

StrongLegs · 19/11/2021 21:20

OP if you got this on credit through Wickes, does that mean that you can't refuse payment? That seems like quite a worrying situation to me, especially with a big company that can fob you off and refuse to reply.

Have you considered ringing the free legal advice helpline that comes with your house insurance (if you have that)? I've found it very useful in the past when I was in a tight spot.

Crappykitchen · 19/11/2021 21:31

I've pm'd you queenie.

That's a good idea stronglegs I will have look into that.

I'll give customer services a chance but if no luck will be taking it further with watchdog and there's also an ombudsman you can report these things to.

I mainly started this thread because they were actually starting to make me doubt myself and that maybe that's what all new kitchens look like

That wonky leg could collapse under the weight of heavy contents + quartz top/someone kneading bread on it.

I would not accept such shoddy workmanship . God knows what else that fitter has done and covered up before you could see it :-(

Phone the Wickes branch, and ask for the name of the customer services manager. When making contact, greet CSM by their full name. Be polite , calm, firm. . Keep notes of all discussions with date, time, who you spoke to and an outline of what was said.

If their response is poor, take the complaint to a higher level.

Crappykitchen · 19/11/2021 21:38

I think we're past the point of me being calm and polite to the local branch Blush I lost my shit on the phone earlier today to the useless twat who sold us the kitchen. We've had 4 weeks of constant issues, I asked him if that looks like a £15,000 kitchen installation and he wouldn't give me the answer.

I think the fact that the work people are happy to have all that crap on the floor and work over it tells you everything you need to know about how they work.

I had a kitchen extension years ago, all the floors were hoovered every night by them, all tools etc tucked inside the cabinets, everything was left neat and tidy. They clearly took pride in their work. That is what yours is lacking; pride.

The propped up legs are bad, but over the gap is even worse. You are not wrong to call this work botched because it is. That tiling was awful. I am glad they removed it.

Justmuddlingalong · 19/11/2021 21:43

I would tell anyone you're talking to on the phone about it that you're recording the conversation. Paper trails are one thing, but phone calls can be manipulated, so I'd keep evidence of all interactions with them.

Fitters, not gutters.

Try contacting Joe Lycett too, this is just the kind of issue his program will investigate

I don't understand why the whole floor wasn't screeded first before installing the units. Makes no sense.

Keep on them. That's crap.

Crappykitchen · 19/11/2021 22:15

They are registered on there priamfarrl what does that mean?

I dont either, there were 2 days after it was plastered when nothing else was being done, it was an empty shell so would have been the perfect time to do the screed

I've sent you the details @Crappykitchen

Moutarde · 19/11/2021 22:24

Good to know

LawnFever · 19/11/2021 22:52

@Crappykitchen

I put the *@wickes* first didn't realise that, try searching #wickes #botchedkitchen
Tweet again and put the *@wickes* in the body of the tweet, they probably won’t care unless it’s visible to everyone to shame them into replying
Crappykitchen · 19/11/2021 23:04

I've done it again with @wickes in the body of the message.

I think the rubble under the units tells me all I need to know about the quality of the workmanship. I feel for you - it’s so frustrating when you’ve invested so much and aren’t getting the product you were led to believe you would.
Keep fighting though. We had a similar situation and asked for a section 75 thingie (like a chargeback) on the credit card. The bank said know. We went to the ombudsman who initially refused the case, went to appeal and won. It took persistence but was worth it. The photographic evidence was indisputable according to the person who did the appeal.
Sorry if you’ve said this already, but where in the country are you?
I’d be tempted to blow up the pictures onto A3 and go and stick them on the windows of the showroom on a busy Saturday afternoon!

Crappykitchen · 19/11/2021 23:20

I'm in suffolk. It's funny you should say that, I told wickes I would print pictures and put them all over the show room kitchens. If the work is up to scratch like they say it shouldn't be a problem surely Grin

PriamFarrl · 19/11/2021 23:33

@Crappykitchen

They are registered on there priamfarrl what does that mean?
Then you can hopefully contact them and complain.

I really feel for you OP. As if having your kitchen replaced isn't hard enough without this.

saddowizca · 20/11/2021 07:51

Our previous kitchen looked a bit like that, but we installed it with my BIL, so cost us very little. I would expect more from a professional fitter.

One question - Why is it so common to not tile under cupboards? We had mice in an old house and I vowed to fill in every hole before installing our next kitchen.
