Would you be happy if the feet of your newly installed kitchen looked like this? New quartz worktop due to go in shortly, wickes installation manager thinks this is absolutely fine.

AIBU to think I should be getting a better install for a kitchen I have paid wickes £15,000 to supply and install?

I have never seen kitchen cupboards balancing on little bits of wood.

caramac04 · 19/11/2021 19:27

It’s a botch. You are right to complain and I think Wickes should put it right. Social media is your friend. Give Wickes the option to sort ASAP or Twitter you go

Crappykitchen · 19/11/2021 19:27

We have paid a deposit and for some extras that were added. The rest is on interest free finance so not sure what happens with that if we are not happy

Have you tweeted them?

I can’t see it - if you put the @wickes at the start of the tweet only they can see it, if you tag them mid tweet it’s public, they do seem to respond to the other complaints on there, maybe everyone on this thread could retweet/comment too?

Yarboosucks · 19/11/2021 19:28

The success of a new kitchen refit is so dependant on the fitter and associated trades and you have been really let down!

We had a new kitchen fitted and our fitters cleaned all the walls and floor before they started putting in the new cabinets. They definitely should not be leaving all that rubble under your units. The tiling is biabolical! Have you paid in advance? I really hope that going public on Twitter helps because the work done does not meet any acceptable standards.

BamberGascoine · 19/11/2021 19:29

I am currently going through something similar. I would never recommend them. The aftercare is shocking at store, customer services and fitter level. I have threatened to stop payments and see them in court. Through their shoddy work an ship weve had no usable sink for 6 months and now a carcass and the kitchen floor is water damaged. After eventually getting someone to come out to fix the leak they are now saying that we have to claim on our house insurance to rectify any damage

HappyBirthdayMrPresident · 19/11/2021 19:30

So showed my husband who has been a kitchen fitter for nearly 30 years and he said quote'that's a fucking shambles and needs to be dealt with properly ' and he also said are they actually leaving that mess under there? Sorry OP not good

YorkshireLass2012 · 19/11/2021 19:32

@Crappykitchen, did you get a reply from
David Wood? If so, what was it?

Crappykitchen · 19/11/2021 19:32

I put the @wickes first didn't realise that, try searching #wickes #botchedkitchen

Did you get the finance via Wickes? If so, I’d email the finance company ASAP and tell them you aren’t happy with the work and need to speak to them, I’m sure you’ll have the right to cancel if the work is not up to standard, which it certainly is not.

Crappykitchen · 19/11/2021 19:34

No reply from David Wood, customer services are looking into it and I'm hoping they will sort something

Crappykitchen · 19/11/2021 19:35

The finance was via wickes and is with Barclays

I would put pics on social media & tag plus review them on popular reviews sites. We had window coverings fitted, delivered wrong size twice, I went patiently through complaints process for three months and got absolutely nowhere. Complained on social media & review sites and had a 50% refund same day & the right blinds appear & be fitted within a week.

Gladioli23 · 19/11/2021 19:41

Is it something trading standards could help with as well maybe?

Just spam then with this thread and your pics, on twitter and every where else.

Let them know mumsnet has millions of users and strong media presence.
Things go wrong and it's always how company deals with issues isn't it!
Our DIY kitchen legs (touch wood) look so so much more sturdy than that!!! They look dreadful!!

Naughtynovembertree · 19/11/2021 19:42

As pp said you need sm.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 19/11/2021 19:54

My kitchen was supplied and fitted by Wickes and it was a fuck up from start to finish. Customer service didnt want to know of course - the fitting issue was between me and the fitter directly, not Wickes.

Good luck getting it sorted OP

tallduckandhandsome · 19/11/2021 19:57

Cancel the direct debit for the interest free finance.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/11/2021 20:28

apparently there is nobody who goes out to examine shoddy work

There will be someone, but if this is a common standard with them, they'll be very busy looking at shoddy work

I wouldn't cancel the monthly payments without taking advice though. Wickes may have "introduced you" to Barclays finance (and taken the commission of course) but surely it's the bank you owe it to now?

MrsMariaReynolds · 19/11/2021 20:31

Yikes! That is shocking!

I certainly won't be considering Wickes for a new kitchen anytime soon. Hope they come through and make things right!

ChequerBoard · 19/11/2021 20:32

@tallduckandhandsome

Cancel the direct debit for the interest free finance.

Please don't do this. It won't help you to get your kitchen sorted and will just result in further stress.

Actually the credit agreement may be helpful, you could make a claim to Barclays that the goods/services you have received are not poor and not worth what you have paid.

Crappykitchen · 19/11/2021 20:36

I won't cancel the direct debit, I'm not messing my credit rating up over this. The direct debits haven't started so I assume the work has to be complete before it begins.

It's just so disappointing, I was so excited to finally get the work done, its completely taken the shine off it, I want my little old kitchen back

Queenie8 · 19/11/2021 20:46

@crappykitchen. I had the same exact problems. I sacked the installation team halfway through. I had a 14 month battle with Wickes to get things rectified.

PM me if you need help with head office/regional contacts.

TSSDNCOP · 19/11/2021 20:50

Good grief, that's a complete dogs dinner. I'd combust with rage every time I looked at those tiles knowing I had 15k in DD to pay off.

My kitchen is 20 years old done with Magnet and still looks better than that.

Squills · 19/11/2021 20:56

That’s a very sub-standard fit. The legs are on chipboard off-cuts that will degrade.

I’d put your quartz worktops on hold until the fitters stabilise the base units.
