Following on from the other thread…

Mine is Chez Bruce been several times and always been faultless and accommodating.
The only thing I really miss about living in london!

I had probably the best meal I've ever eaten at La Posta Vecchia just outside Rome. Many, many years ago but I still remember it.

We've had excellent meals at Butlers Wharf Chop House, The London Shell Company and Hawksmoor, Borough. Or locally The Parsons Table in Arundel is fantastic.

mbosnz · 20/11/2021 18:06

Foliage at The Mandarin, Oriental. Went with some of NZ's top chefs, and we had the best night!

bellsbuss · 20/11/2021 18:12

Another one is the Guildhall Tavern in Poole, food is out of this world

Doje · 20/11/2021 18:14

The Moorcock in, Sowerby Bridge. Incredible food, really special for a thoroughly decent price.

I also ate at The Man Behind The Curtain in Leeds recently, which was a helluva experience, but a world part in terms of price!

turnthebiglightoff · 20/11/2021 18:25

At £20 for most of the main courses, £60 for 3 people including wine and coffee seems a bit of a stretch for AE!

I love Chez Bruce, faultless food and fabulous unobtrusive service.

There's a place called Urban Reef in Boscombe in Bournemouth that has lovely food and is right on the beach. Good prices and on a summers evening it's perfect!

Mien Tay in Battersea has amazing Vietnamese food and is a fun little place. Used to be BYOB, not sure it is anymore though.

Shrimps in Salzburg has heavenly seafood and incredible wine.

The best cafe (not the brief I know) in the world is also in Battersea - cafe Parisienne. Best breakfast I've ever had and the menu is huge, and the prices super super cheap.

I live in Bournemouth and go to Urban Reef a fair bit because its easy. How long ago did you go? I think its fairly average.

We had a really lovely meal and stay at Northcote in the summer. I saw it came up on the 'disappointing meals' thread recently but we loved every bite and the experience overall.
Our other 'really lovely restaurant meal that we really enjoyed more than expected' was at Kitchin. It was better than we'd expected and a bonus as we'd called on the off chance as we were in town and got a table on the day.

But the most unexpectedly perfect dish I ever had was a bowl of mussels in garlic I had in a 6 table cafe attached to a fish and chip shop on the quayside at Portree on Skye. It was over 30 years ago and we drove across the highlands (pre kids) in September when the season was finished and even the public toilets were all closed. We were the only people in the cafe and the lady turned the sign on the fish and chip shop door and headed off along the quay with a bucket to get those mussels. All these years later my mouth waters when I remember that meal.

Le Manoir for sheer impressively wonderful food. But my favourite restaurant used to be Chez Lindsay in Richmond. Gorgeous authentic Breton/Normand food, lovely atmosphere. It's still there apparently, but I haven't been for decades.

MinnieMountain · 20/11/2021 21:46

The Oak Room at The George in Stamford. They do lovely game in season and the room is so cozy in the autumn. Immaculate service too. It never disappoints.

I remember the Blue Elephant with affection. It was one of the first restaurants DH and I went to. Very tasty.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 20/11/2021 22:56

Cut by Wolfgang Puck - the whole experience was just beyond amazing

M.Wells Steakhouse

The Slanted Door

Michelin starred tasting menu at a hotel in Paris of which I have forgotten the bloody name Angry. I think it was in Le Scribe? DH was on a business trip and we were guests of the hotel. It was beyond wonderful.

Breakfast buffet at the Park Hyatt Paris.

Hakkasan in Las Vegas. Yes I know it's tacky, but the FOOD.

Best seafood I ever had at The Canteen in Provincetown. Super casual with tables and chairs on the beach.

I've also got an "ok food, amazing people watching list" 😬

The restaurant at Soho House NYC.
Asia de Cuba
STK. any of them
Tao. Any of them
Catch
Sushi Samba

@Letsallscreamatthesistene I've been half a dozen times or so (only in the summer) and always had a great time. I don't think a restaurant has to have haute cuisine to be a great restaurant worth visiting. The food is good, the prices are reasonable and it's on the beach, what's not to love!

mamaduckbone · 20/11/2021 23:18

5 courses in a little restaurant overlooking Mount Etna on honeymoon in Sicily. The spaghetti vongole was the single most memorable thing I've ever eaten.
In this country...Passione on Charlotte Street. It's not there any more sadly.

I dont think the food is that good, thats all!

I am an odd duck who loves Asian food.

My favourite so far is City 1, a Malaysian/Singaporean restaurant in a strip mall in Vancouver.

Nothing even slightly fancy but so so good.

violetbunny · 21/11/2021 03:29

I once visited the island of Aitutaki over Christmas (it's in the Cook Islands, so fairly remote) with my partner at the time. We were zipping around the island on a scooter and noticed a sign in someone's garden saying they were offering a meal on Christmas Day, which was the next day. So on a whim we booked it, rather than having Christmas dinner at the hotel.

We turned up the next evening and the lush tropical garden had been transformed with outdoor tables and fairy lights. There were only about 4 tables in total. Turns out the lady who owned the house was also a foreigner, loved to cook and host people, and said she did this every year. The food was absolutely wonderful - not traditional Xmas fare, but beautiful food with an "island" twist (think lasagne made with breadfruit instead of pasta). The food was glorious and it was just such a charming and memorable evening, if entirely unplanned.

greengrassapreciationsociety · 21/11/2021 03:33

pizza express

DeepDown12 · 21/11/2021 06:05

Il Vicolo - a lovely family owned Italian in London. Not fine dining but really high quality Italian.

Malibuismysecrethome · 21/11/2021 06:13

Wolfgang Puck is my favourite of all time. The Sunday brunch at the Hilton on Park Lane many years ago.

UnaLength · 21/11/2021 07:01

The Woodspeen near Newbury. Really lovely service, food is very special and setting is just beautiful. I'd eat there every day if could.

WillThisUsernameDo · 21/11/2021 10:17

@violetbunny that sounds wonderful. It reminded me of a trip to Bath with my ex husband. It was a weekend and we hadn’t booked anywhere and we’re walking along the river asking at all the restaurants but they were all fully booked. Then we got to a little place right by Pulteney Bridge. We asked if they had a table and the waiter sighed and said “only if you don’t mind sitting on the balcony”. It was a beautiful evening so of course we didn’t and there was only room for a couple of other tables out there anyway which quickly emptied out. Then we had the most amazing duck is strawberry sauce that I have tried for years to recreate but have never managed to. We went back the following year but it had closed and turned into a really fancy restaurant instead ☹️

Angels in Uddingston

Credenhill22 · 21/11/2021 15:24

What's so funny about angels in Uddingston??
