Following on from the other thread…

Mine is Chez Bruce been several times and always been faultless and accommodating.
The only thing I really miss about living in london!

"A family run restaurant on a beach in Cyprus. Incredible slow roast lamb and sea food (plus amazing swimming)"
@OmaSwims - I live in Cyprus at the moment, I don't suppose you could give me a rough idea of whereabouts this was, please, if you can remember?

Other posters have reminded me that there was a fish restaurant in Stanley Park in Vancouver which was amazing, too. I think it's long gone, though. Yes, quoogle tells me The Fish House restaurant is permanently closed. What a shame.

Paul Ainsworth's place in Padstow. Off the chart.

hellcatspangle · 20/11/2021 08:28

A tapas restaurant in Seville - being true brits we went for dinner at 7 so bagged a table, by 9pm the queue of locals was snaking round the block but they didn't rush us at all. Plate after plate of amazing food, served at just the right pace, including braised pig's cheeks that were the best thing I've ever eaten.

itssquidstella · 20/11/2021 08:30

@Lucythewonderdog I like the Elephant!

OmaSwims · 20/11/2021 11:12

Melanda Beach restaurant, it's down a dirt track but really worth it. Between Paphos and Episkopi. Hope you find it and love it!

shiningcuckoo · 20/11/2021 11:17

The Porthminster Cafe in St Ives - some years ago though. The Olive Tree at Clipsham in Lincolnshire. Again years ago. And The Torridon at Torridon in the highlands. Most recently Fleurs Place at Moeraki north of Dunedin in NZ. An old woodshed on the waters edge and famous for its seafood. I had trio of fish with vegetables, a crème brûlée and a glass of central Otago rose. It was sublime.

Maybe the Andrew Edmund thing is an incredibly clever pr person because I'm intrigued and want to go.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 20/11/2021 12:37

I live near L'Enclume but I've never been; maybe I should save up and go!
The Moon in Kendal - menu is local and seasonal and so delicious!
Quite Simply French in Lancaster - the best steak
Akbar's in York for a curry - yum! They were really friendly too.

@Upwiththisiwillnotput so pleased to see it's still going strong. We're in Cardiff now so don't get back to Brighton very often.

countbackfromten · 20/11/2021 15:43

Lake Road Kitchen in Ambleside has already been mentioned but was fabulous, the vegetarian courses were spectacular.

Eleven Madison Park was just astonishingly good.

Had a fabulous dinner at Pollen Street Social and Jason Atherton was charming.

Lots of recommendations here that I really need to try!

Krogs Fiskerestaurant in Copenhagen. Eye-watering prices but when you think about Danish incomes it suddenly seems reasonable, and for incredible food and service. Pity about the 'grandma's parlour' decor.

Northcote in Blackburn. Michelin star dining at arse-end-of-Lancashire prices and if you go on a lunchtime is one of the few stunning bargains left in UK hospitality. Worth a trip just for the wine list.

Revolving 66 at the Hopewell Centre in Hong Kong. Food and service nothing special, but you're paying to be in a 62nd floor revolving restaurant with one of the most amazing views in the world, and the scenic outside glass elevator to get there.

Mine was in Rome. No idea what part, or what it was called. We didn’t even go in the building; we were in a sort of conservatory on the pavement. But I can still remember the taste of the food now. It was beautiful.

It has been a long, long time for both, but I also really liked the Chop House in Shad Thames and the restaurant in the Quayside hotel in Brixham.

The Mark Sargent restaurants Rocksalt (Folkestone) and Wife of Bath (Wye), both Kent, are well worth a try if in south Kent.
Very imaginative and innovative chefs.
He owns other restaurants down here but they are a little more pub food (albeit very good pub food).
Rocksalt is especially good for a fish lover's Occasion, it's semi cantilevered over the harbour at Folkestone so pick the right day and it's a gorgeous outlook.

@OmaSwims - OMG, if it's the one at Avdimou, we went there for lunch earlier in the summer - we went for the seafood, had no idea the lamb was a speciality! It was a really hot day and then the sea mist came rolling in and we watched it nearing us, covering the cliffs and the sea until we were eventually enveloped in it. We will definitely find our way back there for the Kleftiko! Thank you!

Ipanema in Brighton.

Amazing Spanish food. But that was about 20 years ago, I went a few times over the years but it changed hands and lost its spark.

Strokethefurrywall · 20/11/2021 17:22

Loads but one of my favorites is The Mussel Inn in Edinburgh.
Half kilo of mussels in sauce of your choice (white wine, bacon, cheese was my favorite!) with endless baskets of crusty warm French bread. For about £6.50!

Honestly one of the best meals I’ve ever had!

Spermysextowel · 20/11/2021 17:40

Le Champignon Sauvage in Cheltenham. Way back in the early nineties they were ‘foraging’ & growing their own unusual ingredients as it was a very small 1 chef 1 front of house & it kept costs down. Really amazing food & service.
Very recently The Victoria in Oxshott. Recently refurbished & change of ownership I think. A wildcard choice as so many places give a time-slot & friend & I had a lot of catching up to do. Usually we’d go into London but we ventured south instead. I’m not sure what to call it as we ate in an area that was more dining-roomy, but I could see dogs in the other half so that was maybe more pubby. Food was really good (pig-cheek croquette then a beautiful rib-eye) but the outstanding thing was the service. I worked in a Michelin 3* for 10 years & the person who ran our area was exceptional. Of course it may be different on a different shift, but still worth a visit.
My most memorable dish was an amuse-bouche at the South Lodge hotel back in 2017. Puffed rice thing which I thought I’d hate but I still think about. Oh, maybe that’s 2nd place to Pierre Koffman’s pig/trotter!

CrimbleCrumble1 · 20/11/2021 17:42

Jeremy’s, West Sussex.

bellsbuss · 20/11/2021 17:47

The Boathouse in Central Park, New York. The food , setting , atmosphere was just amazing.

sweatervest · 20/11/2021 17:51

andrew edmunds in soho. amazing. hidden gem status (by my standards)

sweatervest · 20/11/2021 17:52

i have just read that lots of other people said andrew edmunds.

hash tag loads of bookings for AE

PeachesPumpkin · 20/11/2021 17:53

The George, Alton. It’s completely gluten free and it was so wonderful to not have any worries about cross contamination and to be able to eat anything on the menu and not feel isolated, excluded or to be made to feel a nuisance or faddy for having an autoimmune disease.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 20/11/2021 17:55

Kampa Park in Prague was also amazing.

Sexnotgender · 20/11/2021 17:55

The Kitchin in Edinburgh.
