@Credenhill22

What's so funny about angels in Uddingston??
I’m just really shocked to see it mentioned. I spent a lot of time there getting drunk on a sat night in my youth.

It must have upped its game , in my day, when Harry was still behind his bar, it was alright for food but definitely not a culinary destination.

It just a complete blast from the past to see it mentioned,😃

Credenhill22 · 21/11/2021 21:40

Haha angels was a bit tongue in cheek but the food is lovely for the price.
I get it's not Michelin stars but it's a lovely atmosphere too.
Sadly Harry died a few years ago.
It has been completely renovated in the last few years as well.

Hi, yes I saw that sadly about Harry, and that his wife and daughters had done it up.

Such a blast from the past! 😍

Where the light gets in in Stockport. Amazing experience with tasting menu and paired wines.

bluebell34567 · 21/11/2021 22:44

my dc just checked albert edmunds website for menu.
the menu is handwritten but so difficult to understand. the writing is so off.

I remember going to Andrew Edmunds' restaurant many, many, years ago, with a foodie friend who was really excited about going there. We were not particularly well-off at the time, so it was a big deal. I liked the setting but wasn't particularly impressed with the actual food, particularly given the prices at the time!
Is L'Escargot in Soho still going? Used to love it there on the odd occasion I went there on business expenses!

Haywards near Epping Is fabulous !

MissAmbrosia · 22/11/2021 10:36

Someone mentioned Rocksalt in Folkestone. Lovely place.
Kudos in Canterbury - softshell crab and aromatic crispy lamb
Osteria Mercato in Stresa, Lake Maggiore - stuck in the corner of a car park it looked very drab from outside. Food was to die for though.
Laperouse in Paris - private dining rooms where the aristocrats used to meet their mistresses - the soufflé was heaven.
Nova B in Lisbon - 9 course tasting menu with a chef responsible for each part. Amazing.

We had a really lovely meal last year at The Black Rat (Winchester).

We were less than impressed with the tasting menu at Le Manoir, it was a few years ago now but everything has foam with it (which just reminded me of Cuckoo spit). The Hand and Flowers was also a bit overrated

turnthebiglightoff · 22/11/2021 17:30

The black rat is lovely!!

El Parador, tapas near Euston.

CottonSock · 23/11/2021 16:59

I loved Hotel Ranga in Iceland. But disclaimer - it was a long time ago. Not over posh so decent portions.

Triffid1 · 23/11/2021 17:15

Have marked a few places on this thread for future follow ups. Did Andrew Edmunds years ago and really loved it but for some reason never went back. Around the same time I discovered Arbutus and that was my favourite for years - was gutted when they closed.

My all time favourite restaurant is Dehesa, just off Carnaby Street. I've never had a bad tapas there, service is always friendly and perky and it's just a lovely little spot. Their sister restaurants are good too but not as good.

turnthebiglightoff · 25/11/2021 21:48

Meson Don Felipe in Waterloo. Amazing, absolutely delicious tapas, great drink selection, lovely unobtrusive service, great prices. Love it there!!!

Knickynackynoo · 25/11/2021 22:02

@MintyGreenDream its okay yes, although not been in a few years, probably one of the better ones in Harrogate, which is oddly very poor for restaurants in the main.

FrankiesKnuckle · 25/11/2021 22:10

@turnthebiglightoff ah I love that place, used to be my local! Now many miles away sadly. The chicken livers in marsala were amazing!

Knickynackynoo · 25/11/2021 22:14

Peat Inn near St Andrews in Scotland under its original owners.

A restaurant in Paris which was down a side street picked from a very obscure Paris guide book which a friend lent me - honestly I think about the meal at least once a month 🤣 and it was over 14 years ago now. Friend demanded the book back almost immediately and when we went back about 5 years later we couldn't remember the name for the life of us, I'm going again in March and I'm going to dig put the credit card statements from that year year I bet its on there.

The Black Swan in Helmsley

A restaurant in a tiny fishing village on the Pelopnese ate there on pur second night of a 10 night trip and then every other night after that, not just the best Greek food I've ever bad but some of the best food period and in the most charming setting.

I'm adding Mowgli to the overrated, it's literally just half decent Indian food in small portions 🤷‍♀️

Malibuismysecrethome · 26/11/2021 09:03

^ does your friend still have the guide book
