Sorrel in Dorking, Surrey is my most favourite restaurant

itssquidstella · 19/11/2021 21:58

I loved L'Enclume in Cartmel. Lake Road Kitchen in Ambleside is also excellent.

itssquidstella · 19/11/2021 21:59

Fiskfelagiđ in Reykjavik is fabulous if anyone ever finds themselves in ICELAND, as was Kontrast in Oslo.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 19/11/2021 22:06

@MiloAndEddie

A restaurant called Paris House near Milton Keynes. I think it’s been tipped in the Michelin guide and it’s thoroughly deserved. Mind blowing food and great service
It's amazing, I went on a cooking course there and then ate at the Chefs Table,it was hands down one of the best experiences of my life being in that kitchen.
SmallProvincial · 19/11/2021 22:07

Pre lockdown I loved Sardine on City Road between Old Street and Angel.

Since it closed, my favourite restaurants are:

Quo Vardis - Soho
The Sportsman - Seasalter
Noble Rot - Soho
Geranium - Copenhagen
Hawksmoor - assorted locations

PissyMum · 19/11/2021 22:08

@itssquidstella that was absolutely fabulous. As was Fredrik V in Rekjavik, although not sure if it’s still there. It was absolutely loads of courses, one of which was something with whey butter. My mum misheard it as ‘whale butter’ and asked the waitress how the hell you milk a whale 😂

itssquidstella · 19/11/2021 22:12

@PissyMum whale butter 😂 sounds delicious!

deedeemegadoodoo · 19/11/2021 22:23

The Witchery in Edinburgh
Cookies Cream in Berlin
Finca de Suzi Díaz in Elche / Alicante

Going to L’Enclume this week!

itssquidstella · 19/11/2021 22:27

@deedeemegadoodoo you're in for a treat!

autummvibes · 19/11/2021 22:32

I've never been to a posh restaurant in my life. One of the local pubs in our town serves beautifully cooked food (I don't drink alcohol so just go for the restaurantside). That's more our thing. Big potions, all home made and never had a bad meal.

GreenLunchBox · 19/11/2021 22:32

Cinc Sentits in Barcelona. The food and service was out of this world

RestingStitchFace · 19/11/2021 22:35

The Fish Company In Reykjavik. Best meal I've ever eaten. (Nom)

TorySteller · 19/11/2021 22:35

Keens steakhouse - New York.

Est Artigiani del Gusto - Rome.

Bacaro - Liverpool.

Upstairs at the Grill - Chester (and I really hope they reopen soon)!

@bluebell34567. Andrew Edmunds?? One of my favourites when we lived there. The best meal I’ve had was an open air beachfront meal in Santa Barbara. Swanky surroundings , yet surprisingly reasonable and fantastic seafood

MotherofPoodles · 19/11/2021 22:59

The vanilla pod in Marlow, we were staying at the Hand and Flowers at the time and whilst the food there was lovely the food at the vanilla pod was sublime in a totally none wanky way.

tarasmalatarocks · 19/11/2021 23:00

Ah I actually see other people mentioned Andrew Edmunds— just lovely. Great food, romantic vibe, not too pricey — used to be my treat restaurant

gogohm · 19/11/2021 23:03

A few stand out but three favourites all in france - a small auberge in Brittany which i would struggle to find, a restaurant near la tranche sur mer and and amazing fish restaurant near Marseille. The middle one no longer is open because I tried to find it years later

Universe1969 · 19/11/2021 23:04

We had dinner at petersham nurseries last week which was fantastic. Michelin star abd the food was to die for. Best meal ever: the four seasons Philadelphia. The food just kept coming. Has the equivalent of a Michelin star. Hocki wine petit fours nz mussels steak. I could go on. Still remember it like yesterday. 1998

DW and I are vegetarians and I am gluten intolerant.

Some of the best food I have eaten was at Greens San Francisco The service was great too, and the view across the Bay at sunset was sublime.

We had lunch at Chez Panisse in Berkeley. Not a vegetarian menu but the meals we had were excellent.

Like others, some of the best food I have eaten has been from a souvlaki shop, looking out over the ocean. Sun-dried tomatoes were laid out in the family yard next door, while the potatoes for chips were grown in the nearby garden, along with the herbs and greens.

In Glastonbury there is a lovely restaurant, Queen of Cups We had such a good evening there, eating in the garden while delicious dishes kept coming from the kitchen. The staff were so friendly and keen to talk about the food as the restaurant had recently opened when we there in the summer.

Thank you for starting this thread OP, I have just read out the menus from both restaurants to DW as she relaxes in the bath! We both enjoyed the trip down memory lane but will have to have tea and toast for supper , all this talk of food has made me ravenous!

OmaSwims · 19/11/2021 23:31

Vegetarian tasting menu at Le Manoir, I'm not vegetarian but it looked interesting so I ordered it - much to the shock of my companions :-)
I still dream about the risotto.
A family run restaurant on a beach in Cyprus. Incredible slow roast lamb and sea food (plus amazing swimming)

Lucythewonderdog · 19/11/2021 23:41

Chez Max Dublin
Matt The Thresher Dublin
The Elephant Torquay
Browns Windsor

VetOnCall · 19/11/2021 23:45

Fiskfelagid/Fish Company in Reykjavik.
Hawksworth, Blue Water Cafe and Miku in Vancouver. Miku is the best sushi I've ever had.
The Kitchin in Edinburgh.
OEB Breakfast Co. in Calgary. Not fancy but the most divine breakfast/brunch food. It's FCFS and people happily wait 3+ hours for a table on weekends.

Breakfast at the Sanctum Soho hotel in London was amazing too.

Fatgalslim · 20/11/2021 00:18

@cheermonger it's amazing. My heart sank a bit when I first saw it but I'm glad we stayed. Ended up there about 4 times during a 2 week holiday
