Following on from the other thread…

Mine is Chez Bruce been several times and always been faultless and accommodating.
The only thing I really miss about living in london!

Arzak (three Michelin star place in San Sebastián, Spain) and La Guarida - a private restaurant in a private home in Cuba. Both amazing and at total opposite ends of the spectrum to each other.

At Arzak, the fish was served on a tiny though screen which was playing a video of the sea Shock

Eleven Madison Park in New York. We were on our honeymoon and the whole experience was amazing. When they knew we were on honeymoon they set us up on the chefs table in the kitchen for one course.

Another vote for Sat Bains. Incredible.

RisingSunn · 19/11/2021 15:21

The Blue Elephant in London - the most delicious Thai food.

Redact · 19/11/2021 15:28

Another vote for the Kitchin in Leith. Also The Three Chimneys on Skye, beautiful setting, and amazing food.

Leah2005 · 19/11/2021 15:35

We went to Libanus in Borth. Really random find - a secret cinema underneath and a fabulous restaurant above. Beautiful.

Spanglemum · 19/11/2021 15:41

Terre a Terre in Brighton. Haven't been for over 10 years but loved it. Remember when it started out in Pool Valley.

BreathingDeep · 19/11/2021 15:45

Purnells in Birmingham is exceptional.

Brainwave89 · 19/11/2021 15:45

So in Norfolk Morston Hall- excellent high end restaurant and hotel. If you like your seafood head to Cookie's crabshop. A small cafe in Salhouse on the coast with its own boat, plastic tables, no real decor... but the seafood really is very good. In London Il Bordello in Wapping (great Italian food, great staff). The Coq D'Argent on Bank station and the Red Chilli (try particularly the spiced lamb shank).

VanCleefArpels · 19/11/2021 15:49

Hakkasan and Nobu in various countries.

Le Manoir mind blowingly good

Disappointing: Savoy Grill

CokeZeroAddiction · 19/11/2021 15:51

The restaurant within Cliveden House. Stunning.

JumperandJacket · 19/11/2021 15:52

@RisingSunn

The Blue Elephant in London - the most delicious Thai food.
That’s a blast from the past- I used to go there in the 90s. It was lovely.

Can thoroughly recommend the Hotel Adlon Esszimmer in Berlin if anyone is going there. Just brilliant, delicious, witty food. And the sommelier is awesome.

BloodyAlarms · 19/11/2021 15:53

The Old Inn, Appin, Scotland.

Pretty much only sells 4 types of steak and chips. It's amazing.

Thurlow · 19/11/2021 15:58

The full tasting menu at l'Enclume. I don't even care for food that much but it was just mind blowing! But its the experience too -the staff are amazing, the paired wines, the ambience, and the hotel rooms were fabulous too. Oh, and also the Michelin starred porridge for breakfast was to die for!

MintyGreenDream · 19/11/2021 15:59

Can I ask.has anyone ever been to The Drum and Monkey in Harrogate? My and dh are fancying it but don't know if any good.T.i.a

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 19/11/2021 15:59

A pub that specialised in steaks in a small village in Somerset. I cant remember the name. So so good and so unassuming.

Tyrherleigh Arms in Axminster. Really good quality food for reasonable prices.

The Galley in Topsham. I didnt particularly like fish before I ate there, but it totally changed my point of view and opened my eyes to the versatility and deliciousness of it!

EnrouteNOTonroute · 19/11/2021 16:00

I’ve been taken to the fat duck twice, the second time blew me away. I was speechless.
Someone upthread mentioned le Gavroche not being all that, which I would agree with.
Other notable mentions are The Square and The Ledbury, although I think the pandemic ended The Ledbury.

Kitfish · 19/11/2021 16:03

I found Chez Bruce disappointing. Tables were too close together and the starter I had was terrible - sheep's brains. Not nice.

My favourite restaurant at the moment is Thackaray's in Tunbridge Wells. Their taster menue is divine. Going next week - can't wait.

TreaslakeandBack · 19/11/2021 16:04

My favourites have been Aria in Sydney overlooking the Opera House, L’Enclume and the Black Swan at Oldstead.

PrincessPaws · 19/11/2021 16:05

Another couple that I loved was Senses in Amsterdam, and the Artichoke in Amersham. (I do love a tasting menu!) I wasn't blown away by the Fat Duck at all

Gilmoregale · 19/11/2021 16:08

Several places in Ludlow - though we didn't think much of the service at Taste At No.1, it was evident the waitress didn't think much of two middle aged matrons indulging in a tipple (she was absolutely lovely to the male and female couple with the dog on the next table, so it wasn't our imagination). It made me laugh as we were actually pretty much their target market...so we didn't stay for another, and instead trotted up to the market and bought a bottle of the local gin from one of the lovely traders.

onemouseplace · 19/11/2021 16:09

The Fat Duck is the only restaurant that has ever made me cry (in a good way!) - those who have been will know the course I am talking about, but it was so spot on and perfect.

Chez Bruce is my favourite (local) go to restaurant - we end up there when we fancy a great meal out but don't want to try somewhere new.

And a special mention goes to Nobu - the first top end restaurant I ever went to (and the first time I ever had sushi) when we had a work Christmas lunch there when I had just moved to London. It properly blew my mind!

ShirleyBadass · 19/11/2021 16:11

@TheLightSideOfTheMoon

The Champion in Westbury, Wiltshire.

Currently closed due the pandemic. Opening again after the Chinese New Year.

I implore you all to go. Nice food and an episode of Buffy TVS was filmed near there.

Not the best restaurant but definitely the best Chinese!

Did NOT expect to see that name pop up in a thread like this!

Cheermonger · 19/11/2021 16:12

@Fatgalslim

One of the best I've been to was a little seafood place near the port at Los Cristianos in Tenerife, queues out the door, full of locals, plastic tables and chairs - had the most amazing grilled octupus for about 8 euro. Absolutely delicious
I’ve been there! Amazing isnt it?
