Following on from the other thread…

Mine is Chez Bruce been several times and always been faultless and accommodating.
The only thing I really miss about living in london!

Cali Bruich in Glasgow. We've been going on special occasions for years and then it got a michelin star, so we find it pretty hard to get a table - have managed for our anniversary this year though, can't wait!

Monaychle Mhor near Callander. Except you do need the cheese course (extra) to fill up, dh says next time we go he's eating crisps first!

The other one is near Estepona/Casares in Andalusia. L'Arroyo Hondo. Even though they gave a free shot of firewater to my 15 year old dd2 (she wasn't complaining and yes she did look older). Food was amazing though.

And also, and it's not one you'll just be passing, the Chefs Table at IceHotel in Jukkasjarvi, Sweden. It was our 25th wedding anniversary, tasting menu with wines, most expensive meal we ever had but it was outstanding!

Brewandhoney · 19/11/2021 17:23

Oooh I came on here to say Chez Bruce!!! It’s fancy without being pompous and fussy. The service was best ever. And the cheese trolley…..

colditalianpizza · 19/11/2021 17:24

@Hobbesmanc

Ooooh so many- it's really rare we don't enjoy somewhere special (La Gavroche being a rare exception)

Highlights recently were the Pollen Street Social- amazing lunch made very special by Jason Atherton) and the Tommy Bank's at the Black Swan- wonderful vegetarian taster menu

Interesting- I also hated Le Gavroche

@Hillarious

A very nice, small, independent restaurant in Soho I first went to in 1986 and my own kids who now live in London go there too. Meal for three with wine, coffee and a pud for around £60. Not mentioning its name, as it's my secret.

I also like Chez Bruce, and something I certainly miss about London!

And the smug git of the day award goes to Hilarious
Letsallscreamatthesistene · 19/11/2021 17:28

Agreed - these threads are always a tiny bit wanky but to come on and specifically not name the restaurant takes the prize.

PineappleCakes · 19/11/2021 17:33

Blast from the past, our favourite restaurant was The Criterion under Marco Pierre White, beautiful building, great food.

For consistency and longevity, we've never (in ~30years) had a dud meal at Joy King Lau in Chinatown London.

HuntingoftheSnark · 19/11/2021 17:34

The Sportsman, Seasalter. Although I went to the Blue Elephant in the early 90s on Valentine's Day for my first nice meal as an adult and I still have the china blue elephant that was attached to a balloon on each plate.

Very surprised to see Thackeray's in Tunbridge Wells mentioned though.

MmmMarmiteAndMarmalade · 19/11/2021 17:34

Skosh in York is my fave of all time, a real treat. The menu changes regularly and is always fabulous.

CornedBeef451 · 19/11/2021 17:34

For me it was the fish market tapas in Palma for incredibly fresh shellfish cooked on demand. Although it was very stressful to negotiate.

Or Carters of Moseley in Birmingham, Michelin starred but casual and very friendly. Lovely food, we still drunkenly muse about their rendered back fat.

PissyMum · 19/11/2021 17:36

@Kenneldogsrock I came to say the Gallo D’Oro in Funchal too. Absolutely incredible food.

Locally, The Elephant in Torquay is always good

Hoolihan · 19/11/2021 17:38

Loved Dinner by Heston. Recently went to Burnt Orange in Brighton which was fantastic. There's a brilliant (cheap) pizza place in Worthing called Fiordilatte which is so delicious. But the best restaurant in all the world is Sa Trinxa on Salinas beach in Ibiza. Life doesn't get any better.

JunoMcDuff · 19/11/2021 17:39

1863 in Pooley Bridge. We've eaten at some very nice places, including Michelin star, but that I the best.

Starlitexpress · 19/11/2021 17:46

The French Table in Surbiton, excellent food, service and ambience. Fab for a special occasion....or even if it isn't that special an occasion!

We've just discovered this restaurant. I would recommend if you want a good Chinese in Chinatown

Martinisarebetterdirty · 19/11/2021 17:48

If I had a small independent restaurant in Soho I’d want the name sharing on a best restaurant chat, especially after the tough times the hospitality industry has had recently, so at the risk of some people hating me I think it’s Andrew Edmunds. Glorious place.

Hoolihan · 19/11/2021 17:49

Andrew Edmunds is indeed wonderful. So charming.

KatharinaRosalie · 19/11/2021 17:52

Auberge de L'ill in Illhausern, France. Used to be 3 star, now just 2, but still great. Been a few times and everything is just perfect. One time DH ordered a dish that sounded totally boring, some kind of layered bake thingy. So I tried one layer - meh. Tried another - meh. But took a bite of all of them together and OMG. It was like explosion, all textures and aromas and tastes combining just perfectly.
And they are lovely with kids. DS was most impressed and said we should eat there all the time. Grin

Totally agree - have been 3 times and each time its been amazing. Now so hard to get a table but I still rave about it.
Joystir59 · 19/11/2021 17:57

The Green Room in Scarborough is lovely, delicious beautiful food and wine, lovely warm.ambience and welcome.

SecretKeeper1 · 19/11/2021 18:04

Raffles Singapore tasting menu, by a mile. Ridiculously opulent and tasty food.

Closely followed by an amazing 5 euro pizza at a run down Italian cafe after a long and hungry journey. Best pizza ever. Smile

CourgetteSeason · 19/11/2021 18:06

Also yes yes yes to Skosh in York.

Amazing place in Bruges that did an awesome tasting menu but now I can't remember the name which is annoying.

LittleGwyneth · 19/11/2021 18:08

Osteria Santo Spirito in Florence. In the corner of the best square in Florence, with amazing food. Or Gusta pizza, also in the same square.

Also it's in Soho, one of the busiest parts of London. Hardly a secret location. Honestly if the person didn't want to share the name, why mention it?!
Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 19/11/2021 18:10

Restaurant Crispi in Italy. Incredible.

The view - NYC
Tavern on the green, central park.

Basic but "greens" in didsbury.

ISpyCobraKai · 19/11/2021 18:12

The Kitchin in Edinburgh.
