To think you can't drop dog shit in other people's bins?

Takedogshithome · 16/11/2021 21:16

My dh thinks that if a house wheelie bin is on the pavement it's fair play to dropped bagged dog shit into it.
I on the other hand think this is socially unacceptable, so I thought I'd ask MN.

Iabu, of course, a bin is a bin, perfectly reasonable to drop shit in it.

Yanbu LTB filthy fucker

Errr absolutely not. Someone walked up my drive once to put their bagged dog poo in my wheelie bin.

Bloody cheek!

kimsbb · 18/11/2021 07:48

@AlternativePerspective that would be a different scenario.

If I saw someone with a guide dog I wouldn't expect them to pick it or find a bin. I also wouldn't offer to pick it.... yuk!!

KosherDill · 18/11/2021 07:50

@AlternativePerspective

Ok slightly alternative scenario.

I am a guide dog owner. Legally, guide dog owners are actually exempt from picking up after their dogs, but `I and most other GDO’s I know do pick up, and it’s not always possible to know where the public bins are, and if you’re e.g. going into town then it’s not possible to keep the bags until you get home.

Now I have never put my dog’s crap in anyone’s bin, but given the choice between leaving it on the grass and putting it in someone’s bin what would people suggest?

Taking it with you or leaving the sack behind a tree or shrub and retrieving it on your way back? Or, worst case, don't pick it up. At least it will naturally decompose.

The source of the waste doesn't change the smell and mess inside a bin, unfortunately.

I would suggest not putting it in anyone's bin. Don't know how that's any different, it's still dog shit.
Largethighsbadeyes · 18/11/2021 08:08

If my bin was out for collection and someone put a bag of dog poo in it I wouldn't care.

However I wouldn't do it with a bag of my dogs shit and someone else's bin

Lifewith · 18/11/2021 08:08

I really am surprised how many people think someone's private bin can be used as a public bin. Just because they have a dog and don't want to take their crap with them.

There's another thread where some people agreed it was ok to park your car on a neighbours drive just because they didn't use it.

The entitlement of people seems very strong.

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 18/11/2021 08:09

I own a dog it is a no from me.
It goes in a public dog bin or our own unless there is an extreme exceptional circumstance and then its double bagged.

Pigeoninthehouse · 18/11/2021 08:12

If it's properly bagged up, it just waste like anything else.
If the bins are out to be emptied don't
See the problem.
I don't have a dog anymore and have been tempted at times to use someone else's bin, when there are no public ones to use, but know it might upset some precious folk, so haven't done it. I just think it's preferable to it being dumped on pavement, hung from trees etc...

Nomoreusernames1244 · 18/11/2021 09:14

Nappies are worse.

The odd bag of dog poo vs 14 shitty nappies? Assuming one poo a day from a child?

Know which I’d rather have in my bin. I once had someone change their baby in the boot of their car in front of my house and put the used nappy and wipes in my bin, in my front garden.

And yes, i used cloth as at the time we had bagged waste, not wheelie bins. Even a weeks worth of disposables took a whole bin bag and doubled our waste.

Mouseonmychair · 18/11/2021 09:18

I only do it if people leave their bins out after bin day obstructing the pavement. A nice passive aggressive point.

AlternativePerspective · 18/11/2021 09:22

Just for clarification, I’ve never put my dog’s crap in someone else’s bin. The advice from guide dogs is actually to put it in the gutter, but I have left it under bushes where people aren’t going to be going and it’s in biodegradable bags.

It certainly doesn’t feel right just to leave it, only exception being if e.g. the grass is exceptionally long and I’ve been unable to find it, but I’m not beyond asking a member of the public just to tell me where it is.

No it's not waste like everything else. It's your dog waste, not mine. Not my dog and not my waste I'm paying to be collected in my bin I paid for. Look after your damn dog with a public bin or your bin. It's not precious to want to use your private bin for your private use.

The dog owners on this thread that think it's ok are really selfish cheeky sods.

That's disgusting.

Except it’s not nice. It’s a shitty thing to do. Literally.

I agree with OP, that is why I fitted gravity locks to my bins. (Not because of you over the road filling my bins, you know who you are!)

Your right people shouldn't leave bins in the footpaths.

MrsPatmoresPinny · 18/11/2021 10:04

My bins live at the end of my drive in an alcove and I’m always finding dog shit bags in there. I hate it.

On the one hand I’m happy it’s not on the street or indeed on our driveway, which has happened many times. On the other, I’m pissed off that someone has walked on to our property and round the corner to use our bins like a public facility and that I’m the one who has to clean out the bins that smell of dog shit when we have no dog.

Also goes for the many beer cans, takeaway wrappers and condoms that I’ve also found in there, and the people I’ve caught tucked away having a piss. It sounds like I live in a busy city centre but I really don’t!!

tallduckandhandsome · 18/11/2021 10:14

It’s ‘You’re right’.

But I’m not surprised your grammar is as bad as your manners.

Geordieoldgirl · 18/11/2021 10:26

YADNBU! Dog owner here. I would never put my dog’s output in someone else’s bin! That’s a disgusting liberty, I think. I would find a dog bin (or rubbish bin at a push), but I would take it home if I had to.

Peaplant20 · 18/11/2021 10:49

Why does it matter to you? Would you notice unless you caught someone doing it? I can see how it would be annoying in the case of PP who lived next to a dog walking area.

I don’t think it’s an issue but I wouldn’t do it myself as I’d be scared the homeowner would see me and get annoyed as although I think it’s fine I am aware others don’t! Problem is, there are far too few public bins around and most people don’t want to carry around a bag of stinking dog poo for an hour especially if you have a dog like mine who goes about 5 times per walk!

Nomoreusernames1244 · 18/11/2021 11:13

Genuine question, why do you clean out wheelie bins?

They’re outside, they are emptied mechanically, you only ever have to touch the lid- why on earth would you bother cleaning it?

I have enough to do any a clean outdoor bin wouldn’t make my to do list ever. Never cleaned one yet…

Lockheart · 18/11/2021 11:19

I'm another who doesn't understand why people are cleaning their outside bins.

Bins smell. My black bin gets all kinds of horribleness put in it. Lots of people with small children and pets regularly fill their bin up with shit, and somehow they're still around to tell the tale.

Unless you're actually sticking your head in it frequently it hardly makes a material difference to your life. There's a reason we keep them outside with lids on.

It's like ironing pants or your bedsheets. Why??

Dacquoise · 18/11/2021 11:22

It's better if bagged poo is placed inside a bin than not picked up or, my favourite, hung on the nearest tree for the poo fairy to collect. I am a dog owner and I cringe when other owners fail to notice their animals pooing or leave bags in random places.

MrsPatmoresPinny · 18/11/2021 11:40

@Lockheart @Nomoreusernames1244

I’m not Hyacinth Bucket or anything. We have huge overhanging trees and hedges and the bins get covered in this green/black mildew stuff, so they get jet washed every few months and I do the insides as well because it reeks of shit.

I want to not get grimy hands and a cloud of other people’s dog shit smell in my face when I put my own bins out. I don’t think that’s weird.

And you’d be surprised at how pungent the shit smell is - our bins only get collected once a fortnight and there are several regular walkers putting their shit in my bin twice a day. You can smell it as you walk up my driveway to my house!
