To think you can't drop dog shit in other people's bins?

Takedogshithome · 16/11/2021 21:16

My dh thinks that if a house wheelie bin is on the pavement it's fair play to dropped bagged dog shit into it.
I on the other hand think this is socially unacceptable, so I thought I'd ask MN.

Iabu, of course, a bin is a bin, perfectly reasonable to drop shit in it.

Yanbu LTB filthy fucker

*No it's not waste like everything else. It's your dog waste, not mine. Not my dog and not my waste I'm paying to be collected in my bin I paid for. Look after your damn dog with a public bin or your bin.
It's not precious to want to use your private bin for your private use.

The dog owners on this thread that think it's ok are really selfish cheeky sods*
It is waste like everything else in your bin, if there is room and I am not preventing you using the bin, do not see the problem.
It all goes to the same place after its collected and you are not being charged on the weight or contents of your bin, so you are being precious.

Djifunrsn · 18/11/2021 11:43

People clean bins if they are housed in some sort of building - garage, shed, purpose built pod thing, whatever.
I personally keep mine very clean as when the bin people don’t show up, or the collections are delayed by the council, I want to be able to lift clean sacks out and take them to the tip.
Furthermore, it is foul to having rotting stuff (even if you don’t put food in a wheelie bin, some non recyclable wrappers will smeared, wipes will have food on etc if you’ve wiped up a messy kid or spill quickly) or festering dog shit in the bottom of a bin. Even though you don’t touch it usually, it is a horrible to open the bin and smell filth like that.
My bin is clean with no smears and anyone who puts their dog’s shit in it is a real pain in my ass.

Djifunrsn · 18/11/2021 11:44

As they make the building/structure smell even when closed.

Djifunrsn · 18/11/2021 11:45

I wonder if people who think this is ok have actually smelt a bin that contains dog shit. No matter how carefully you bag it, it stinks shockingly.

Pigeoninthehouse · 18/11/2021 11:58

Bins smell shocker.
Thats why they are kept outdoors, usually away from property.
Stop sniffing your bin,. Problem solved.

MrsPatmoresPinny · 18/11/2021 12:00

I agree in theory that it’s waste inside a waste receptacle but it’s not that simple in practice.

I think part of the problem is that dog walkers think oh it’s just one little bag, what’s the big deal, but if you’re on a walk route like me, everyone else walking their dog is thinking the same and you just don’t realise how much the shit piles up because you just walk away and leave it for the bin owner to suffer!

KosherDill · 18/11/2021 12:02

@Peaplant20

Why does it matter to you? Would you notice unless you caught someone doing it? I can see how it would be annoying in the case of PP who lived next to a dog walking area.

I don’t think it’s an issue but I wouldn’t do it myself as I’d be scared the homeowner would see me and get annoyed as although I think it’s fine I am aware others don’t! Problem is, there are far too few public bins around and most people don’t want to carry around a bag of stinking dog poo for an hour especially if you have a dog like mine who goes about 5 times per walk!

Not feeling like carrying shit around is hardly a good enough reason to sully someone else's property or environment.
MoneyConfused · 18/11/2021 12:04

Disgusting thing to do. I thought it’s widely accepted that you don’t put rubbish your rubbish in someone else’s bin?

MrsPatmoresPinny · 18/11/2021 12:04

@Pigeoninthehouse So you wouldn’t care if as you walked into your driveway and to your front door that there was a permanent waft of dog shit?

I think we can agree that there are different levels of this - those who get a cheeky bag every now and again, and those who are bombarded daily such that it is a genuine problem.

newnameagain99 · 18/11/2021 12:14

Op I remember starting a post on this subject years ago and it turned out I was unreasonable for being irritated at people putting bagged dog poo in my bin. I've also had a car stop and someone get out of their car and put a carrier bag of rubbish in my bin... that was ok with everyone else too! I think it's bloody cheeky

Bubblemonkey · 18/11/2021 12:20

I’d rather dog shit than a tonne of wine bottles 🤷🏼‍♀️

anxiousstanley · 18/11/2021 12:22

No no no... it's never fine to drop your dog poo in someone else's bin. It just shows the level of entitlement displayed by some dog owners.
I had this problem a few months ago. I put stickers on my bin saying "why would I want your dog poo in my bin"
I also tied them shut with bright green bungee ropes. I have not had a problem since.
It is no different than me putting a shit in someone's bin. I wouldn't do it. Take your shit home. Better still pop it in your pocket and warm your hands in the winter.

LadyOfMisrule · 18/11/2021 12:26

We have labels, supplied by the council, that we can put on our bins to let people know if we are happy to accept rubbish from people walking past, including dog poo bags. I have one on my bin. I don't have a dog, but I'd prefer that poo went into a bin rather than being left on the street.

5lilducks · 18/11/2021 12:31

No thank you. I wouldn't want anyone putting their dog's shit in my bin. I don't have dogs so I don't want dogs shit in my bins either. There are dog shit bins for that so your dh should either use one of them or take it home. What gives him the right to use other people's household bins for his dogs shit.

DeadButDelicious · 18/11/2021 12:34

I always make sure my bin is in but I would much rather someone popped a poo bag in my bin than left it on the street to be trod in. I would however prefer that they took it home and put it in their own bin and I wouldn't put my dogs poo in someone else's bin either.

dizzydizzydizzy · 18/11/2021 12:37

YANBU. I don't have a dog and would not be happy if people left shit in it.yuck!

Lifewith · 18/11/2021 12:42

It really doesn't matter if people want to clean their bin or not.
The point is IT'S NOT YOUR BIN!!!!!!
They can do what the heck they like with their own bin. Its not yours!!!

Oh dear, you have to carry the dog shit??? That's part of having a dog!

So many CFs here

It think it's rude people in general and some people getting more and more entitled.
TheChosenTwo · 18/11/2021 13:01

I wouldn’t mind if someone put bagged dog shit it in my bin, it’s a bin, I’m not taking it inside my house to eat my dinner out of, it’s literally for rubbish!!
I haven’t ever noticed anyone putting dog shit in my bin but people have put other rubbish in there when it’s waiting for the bin lorry etc. Other than that, it lives behind our locked gate so it’s not one that is always accessible to others.
I don’t have a dog so I definitely don’t pick up and dump dog poo in anyone else’s bin, but I’d rather it was put in my bin than left on the ground for people to tread in.

daisyducky · 18/11/2021 13:27

No from me.

Our rubbish is only lifted if it's in a large sack. Small bags are left in there.

It annoys me when anyone passing our house just puts there rubbish in there, crisp packets, drinks cans as we have to lift it out and put it in a large sack

I never realised how many people are so fucking precious about their council supplied bin. I couldn't bring myself to get wound up about something so minor.
Magilix · 18/11/2021 13:45

I paid for my bins and they are cleaned once a month. I don't want them stinking of dog poo. I don't put my dog's poo in the bin. Why should anyone else?

Lifewith · 18/11/2021 15:56

They are not council supied bins. Not where I live.
Some posters are really not getting it

Where do you put your dog's poo?
Magilix · 18/11/2021 18:35

@JunoMcDuff I put it in a public bin.
