To think you can't drop dog shit in other people's bins?

My dh thinks that if a house wheelie bin is on the pavement it's fair play to dropped bagged dog shit into it.
I on the other hand think this is socially unacceptable, so I thought I'd ask MN.

Iabu, of course, a bin is a bin, perfectly reasonable to drop shit in it.

Yanbu LTB filthy fucker

This used to drive me crazy.

We lived on a road close to a park, and don't have wheelie bins in our areas, we have normal bins with lids which dog walkers felt it was fine to drop their poo bags in so that we'd have to periodically reach in the try to fish them out and put them in a bin bag.

They also used to hang poo bags on our hedge too, horrible people. Nothing against the dogs, it's not their fault, but would happily hang draw and quarter their owners.

GTAlogic · 16/11/2021 23:49

It really wouldn't bother me at all. Better in a bin than in the middle of the path where everyone walks or hanging in a bag on a bush or a tree branch like the devil's baubles.

GTAlogic · 16/11/2021 23:52

@BigYellowHat

It’s gross. Step away from my bin and take your dog shit home. If the bag splits I don’t want to be cleaning stinky dog shit from my wheelie bin, especially when I don’t even have a dog.
Why would you be cleaning it out of the bin? Surely it would just come out with all the other (usually smelly) rubbish when it's emptied? If not, then a squizz with the hosepipe would be enough?
NeedsCharging · 17/11/2021 00:06

I dont routinely inspect my outside bin so I wouldn't notice if somebody but something small in it like a poo bag.

Saracen · 17/11/2021 00:44

@Lockheart

I'd rather it was in my bin than on the pavement tbh. Their own bin would be preferable of course but it makes no difference to me.
Agree.
Marvellousmadness · 17/11/2021 01:23

If it was every week. Yes. Yabnu
If it is once in a blue moon: get over it

I had it happen once. I just figured that I was happy that at least they had the decency to pick it up. So many times I see dog shit on the curb. That should be a finable offence.

Well quite.
Lifewith · 17/11/2021 07:34

You don't check if your bin has been emptied before you bring it back in on bin day?

At least they had the decency to pick it up? Your bar is very low for dog owners. They HAVE to pick it up. Shouldn't be grateful they used your bin
watchingrnfire · 17/11/2021 07:39

Council won't take your bin if they know you putting dog crap in it

BonesInTheOcean · 17/11/2021 07:43

@byvirtue

You don’t own your bin, it’s the councils surely?

I can’t get too wound up about it if it’s being disposed of properly but then worrying about what’s going in my (council supplied) bin is extremely low down my priorities.

I paid for my bin, it belongs to me.
Lifewith · 17/11/2021 08:00

The council don't pay for your bin. You pay for them to collect your rubbish, including someone's else's dog shit if they are using your bin.

FOJN · 17/11/2021 08:10

I've done it 2 or 3 times over the years but only ever on my late evening dog walk the night before bin day when bins are already out for collection. I'd prefer someone put it in my bin than throw it over the wall into my front garden which has happened more than once.

tallduckandhandsome · 17/11/2021 08:10

No one else gets to decide what is ok to put in someone else’s bin.

Your DH is being a dick.

NeedsCharging · 17/11/2021 08:12

No. I WFH so see them emptying it right outside my house plus when I move it it's pretty obvious it's empty.

anon12345678901 · 17/11/2021 08:19

Why can't dog owners just take it home with them and put in their own bins?

Still not ok. Take it home.

Because some seem to think a bin is a bin and they have the right. Hmm Bloody lazy
HarrietsChariot · 17/11/2021 09:02

No it's totally unacceptable.

The dog owner must bag up the shit and take it home and put it in their bin (or a public dog shit bin if there's one available).

You cannot use other people's bins without their permission. It doesn't matter that you are chucking something small into it - it's not your bin, you are fly-tipping. Basically you're disgusting criminal scum if you do this.

SirChenjins · 17/11/2021 09:06

God no - filthy fuckers. Take your own dog poo home and put it in your own bin, or find a dog waste bin on the way home. You pay for your own bin space through your council tax, you're entitled to every bit of it - it's not a public bin.

Can you tell me what law they'd be breaking?
vivainsomnia · 17/11/2021 09:33

I would always avoid to do it but have done it once. Dog pooed right in front of garden in very rural area. No dog bin at all and was right at the start of our walk. Would have had to carry the poo bag for 2 hours. I put it in 3 poo bags and put it in a private bin. I hope they never noticed or wouldn't have cared.

lemmein · 17/11/2021 09:40

I did this before and my DH looked at me like Shock I didn't think it was a huge deal, in fact I still don't, it's a bin! Hmm as long as it's bagged what's the problem?

I wouldn't do it now though, now I know people are weird about it!

ItsSunnyOutside · 17/11/2021 09:42

Nope. YANBU. Thats disgusting. It doesn't matter if its in a bag. It's very likely that if I put a bigger rubbish bag on top of it, the poo bag would split , then I'd have a shitty, stinking bin. It might be different if I had a dog, I might be more understanding..but we don't have dogs so I don't want it in my bin, thanks!

Couchbettato · 17/11/2021 09:53

I think it depends how far away home is.

If we've been on a long walk, and I'm miles away, then I'll use a local council bin or in a pinch a bin that's on the pavement.

If we're close to home then I'll just put it in mine.

I always double bag though and knot tightly
