To think you can't drop dog shit in other people's bins?

Takedogshithome · 16/11/2021 21:16

My dh thinks that if a house wheelie bin is on the pavement it's fair play to dropped bagged dog shit into it.
I on the other hand think this is socially unacceptable, so I thought I'd ask MN.

Iabu, of course, a bin is a bin, perfectly reasonable to drop shit in it.

Yanbu LTB filthy fucker

I've had this, gone to bring the emptied bin in off the pavement on bin day and there's bloody dog shit in there!
F**k right off with your stinky shit!
I don't even have a dog

Summerfun54321 · 16/11/2021 22:15

*Btw why di some people hang them from a tree!?

Because people kick off if you put them in someone else's bin. I know where I'd prefer it to go.*

Just take it to a public bin, or take it home and put it in your own bin! People don’t need to hang soiled nappies on trees, I don’t know why on earth people do that with dog shit.

kowari · 16/11/2021 22:16

@WholeClassKeptIn

Btw why di some people hang them from a tree!?
Because they can't be bothered just carrying it until they get to a public bin. These are people who shouldn't have dogs.
Lifewith · 16/11/2021 22:16

Entitled dog owners. No one wants your dog shit. Take it home. It's not a public bin, it's my private one for my rubbish only.

BuggerOrfDeary · 16/11/2021 22:18

Take it home, it's not up to you to dump it in someone's bin

I can't believe people think it's OK to do this

Lifewith · 16/11/2021 22:19

I can't be bothered to find a public loo when I'm out and about, can I just come and use yours please random stranger???
Not the same obvs but it's still using someone else's property

OnTheBoardwalk · 16/11/2021 22:23

Who the feck is going to remove dog shit hanging front a tree and why would you hang it there?

lisaandalan · 16/11/2021 22:24

I have three dogs and I wouldn't do it. X

userxx · 16/11/2021 22:28

@cherrypie66

I always find a skip on someone's drive to Chuck mine in can't see the harm in it myself. I wouldn't put in someone's bin though

When I had a skip on my drive people did the same, the driver who came to take the skip away chucked the ones he found onto my drive. Personally I'd have preferred them in my bin!

DuggeeHugPlease · 16/11/2021 22:30

@userxx you do realise there are more than 2 options - people don't have to choose between a tree or someone else's household bin. They can find an appropriate bin - either public or their own.

I often change nappies in church hall type venues which don't have facilities to dispose of them. So I bag them and take them home. If walking I may pop them in a public bin but I would never put them in someone else's wheelie bin (or hang from a tree for that matter)

stingofthebutterfly · 16/11/2021 22:30

No, it's not ok. I don't want my bin stinking of your dog's shit, thanks very much. I already have to deal with cleaning up after inconsiderate cat owners who let their precious animal shit on my garden. I have no desire for you to add your dog's crap to my bin too.

FindingMeno · 16/11/2021 22:34

I'd be well pissed off if someone put dog shit in my bin, even double bagged.

JunoMcDuff · 16/11/2021 22:36

I can't get worked up over this. Due to where our house is we get this happen a fair bit and it didn't bother me as long as it was bagged (never had any that wasn't).

antwacky · 16/11/2021 22:41

Definitely not, I put my garden waste bin out this week and unbeknown to me some cheeky skanky fecker put a bag of dog shit in there. I saw the bin collector take it out and throw it onto the grass verge. When the same thing happened to my friend the binmen wouldn't empty her bin, they put a big yellow sticker on her bin saying it couldn't be emptied as it contained contaminated waste.

SirenSays · 16/11/2021 22:41

Literally couldn't care less, a bins a bin.

BigYellowHat · 16/11/2021 22:45

It’s gross. Step away from my bin and take your dog shit home. If the bag splits I don’t want to be cleaning stinky dog shit from my wheelie bin, especially when I don’t even have a dog.

userxx · 16/11/2021 22:45

@DuggeeHugPlease Yes I do realise that but clearly others don't or there wouldn't be so many poo bags being hung on trees. What I'm saying is, I'd much prefer someone to use my bin, rather than hang it on a tree. It's a bin, I'm not eating my dinner out of it.

I'm also not precious about dogs shitting on my lawn, as long as it's cleaned up, again I'm not eating off it.

Longingforatikihut · 16/11/2021 22:46

I don't have a dog but I have other pets. I'd rather they put it in my bin than leave it on the front step.

tearinghairout · 16/11/2021 22:46

Would you do it if you knew the bin owner was watching you? If not, then you obviously know that it's not OK. So no, it's not OK to use someone's property without their permission.

MrsClatterbuck · 16/11/2021 22:47

@XenoBitch

* Are people ok with others putting anything they want in their bins, or just dog shit. Do people regularly look at other people’s wheelie bins and think they’re fair game for whatever they want to put in there?*

There is an elderly chap in my street who makes it his duty to put out everyone's bins on the evening prior to bin day. He looks through our bins and recycling, and if you don't have much, he takes it out and puts it in other people's bins/recycling. Or he fills your bins up with other people's stuff.
I have gone out to put rubbish in my bin to find it full because he has filled it up with other people's rubbish.
I know he means well, but it pisses me off.

That would piss me off too. He would have to get through a gate into our back to get our bins and that wouldn't go down well with me. It's one thing putting everyone's bin out but he has no business looking inside anyone's bin let alone putting someone else's stuff in it. Have you considered putting a bin lock on your bin
DriftingBlue · 16/11/2021 22:47

Not ok at all. If you do this, your neighbors hate you.

Bedpost · 16/11/2021 22:54

Classic mumsnet, why on earth waste energy being “enraged” or appalled by this. What does it matter what your outdoor bin smells like or what goes in it. Surely all you ever do with it is open in and chuck rubbish in it, it’s not like you keep it in your living room. I’m not possessive over my bin and couldn’t care less that people put rubbish in it-that’s basically the whole point of it and it doesn’t stop me putting my rubbish in it.

StoneofDestiny · 16/11/2021 23:07

Just take your dog shit to your own bins! Sorted.

EekGoesTheBaby · 16/11/2021 23:16

IT'S NOT A PUBLIC BIN! Even if someone really wants to put something in it...um...still not public. If a dog owner doesn't want to carry around a bag of poo until getting home or finding a public bin labeled for dog waste, then that person should not have a dog. The entitlement of dog owners never ceases to amaze me. OP, you are in the right.

Lockheart · 16/11/2021 23:24

Bins smell anyway, why would you waste time cleaning it? You don't keep it in your house.

My black bin gets goop from the drains, old meat packaging with juice remnants, floor sweepings, hoover bags full of old skin flakes and hair, to name but a few. It really makes sod all difference to me if someone chucks a bag of dog poo in with that.
