Was I wrong to tell hairdresser the truth ? Pic*

I have been going to a new hair salon since the summer so this was visit 4/5…

I have lovely long thick hair and I’m quite specific and clear about what I want, more so over the fringe as I’ve had bad ones in the past. The hairdresser has cut my hair on two previous occasions with no issues but today in my eyes she butchered it and my British politeness evaded me when I looked in the mirror…

She asked if I liked it … I have a sharp No!
She asked why don’t you like it ? I explained that it was wonky, above the eyebrow when I specifically said I wanted it just below and the thinning had given different thickness throughout … the hairdresser was clearly shocked I said no and said ‘ I’ve seen lots of fringes and this is fine ‘

The manager also sided with her, I paid and left ( £90) for the colour cut and blow dry. A few mins after leaving the salon calls me and I ignore as I’m raging at this point on my phone to my friend and then a mobile number calls me and it’s the manager calling off her phone to tell me off for leaving a 1 star on Treatwell… is that even allowed ?

She asked me to remove the one and said giggling ‘ we really don’t deserve the one ‘ I said I deserved a decent cut . She said she didn’t know how I felt about it I pointed out she was there the whole time standing and I paid her and spoke about it at the end … she said what do you want to be happy ? I’ll give you discount or free £15 treatment next time…. Next time ?! Hell no!

I made a excuse to get off the line but I did leave a google review and a photo.

Was I wrong to be not typically British politeness and straight up say NO when asked if I liked it … ? What is your opinion on that fringe cut ? For context it was just below my eyebrows , even and the same thickness when I went in

Do you have a cow lick at the front centre of your fringe? Either way, easiest thing to do would have been to ask them to blunt off the fringe so it was all one length. I honestly don't think it's a bad job, and definitely not worth a 1 review just because it's not how you envisaged. If something is not right, you need to direct the hairdresser so they can amend it.*

Seriously did you not read the thread?

OP was specific.
OP told them directly it wasn't right.

They made no amends.

sunglassesonthetable · 18/11/2021 08:49

Jeez - why such a crusade over a fringe?

@MyrtlethePurpleTurtle

Just think there are whole business' set up to to deal with among other things, jeez - fringes !

Yep - hairdressers! And they take - jeez, money!

They messed up big time - service and attitude. Why are you diminishing OP's experience?

Tryagainplease · 18/11/2021 08:51

YANBU OP
I had my fringe trimmed yesterday and I like mine the way you wanted yours. Hairdresser didn’t do a perfect job but it’ll be fine in a week or so when it’s grown a little.
I’ve trimmed my own fringe with better results. I don’t mean it looks awful - it doesn’t - but it’s very far away from what you wanted!

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 18/11/2021 11:51

The fringe is the hair cut!! I go to my current hairdresser just because she does a great fringe. It’s the main part that affects your appearance.

YANBU.

They should have apologised, offered a remedial appointment and discounted your cut there and then. They sound incredibly unprofessional.

I’ve got a remedial hair appointment tomorrow after a hairdresser absolutely butchered my hair. I spoke to the manager and he offered me 2 free appointments with him to sort out the mess she made.

BowiesJumper · 18/11/2021 13:03

And how does a hairdresser fix a too short and too thinned out fringe? Stick the hair back on?

It does look bad, but at least in a couple of weeks it’ll have grown a bit…

They wait, and have an appointment in a few weeks to sort it out.
BasiliskStare · 18/11/2021 13:20

A hairdresser cannot cut hair longer but if they have done what the client specifically did not want then I think a discount and when hair a grown a free fringe cut would be a decent thing.

That said if hairdresser does not do what you want but what they want or are good at doing - then change hairdressers.

I have a lovely hairdresser who does exactly what I want - her opinion may be different but she does exactly what I have asked for.

The review issue - not so sure about . I would just change hairdressers - the review thing sound a bit rubbish ( hers) . Go to another hairdresser next time and give them a good review. Most decent businesses will not take down reviews ( I think - or am I naive )

If it helps @Brighton5555righton - I think it looks quite nice and the colour is lovely but I do get your point about it not being exactly what you wanted. If anyone picks up thinning scissors or that razor type thing - I just say firmly - stop. Grin

HoseMeDownWithHolyWater · 18/11/2021 13:21

Can we see a photo of the uneven ends? I'm just curious.

pastypirate · 18/11/2021 13:30

@HoseMeDownWithHolyWater

Are people looking at a different photo?

It looks like a child had cut it with kitchen scissors and it's now grown out a bit.

It really does.

Princess hair and beauty hove

Nobody will be going there now!

Thissideof40 · 18/11/2021 15:12

I had a fringe cut like that once and was gutted. I didn’t say anything though and tried to style my hair when I got home to try and make it look better. Not that you can do much when it’s cut that short. So no yanbu.

Helpstopthepain · 19/11/2021 08:00

@stayathomer

People can correct me if I'm wrong but OP you shouldn't be naming the salon and the manager. The whole point of this forum is that you're non identifiable. People should only name when it's to gush about something or someone, I'd get this removed
Agreed. You seem to be doing everything you can to damage this small business OP, and taking pleasure in it too. If they lose all their customers and shut down, will you be happy? Will that be sufficient revenge for your wonky fringe?
MammaLovesLeopard · 19/11/2021 08:34

@Brighton5555

Oh I will never return thats for sure . Yes it was super clear what I wanted, the same lady has cut my hair 3 times before I’m kinda boring always have the same thing ( trim) just as she turned me to her to do the fringe I said to her below the eyebrows and it’s better to go bit by bit so we can see it’s not too short isn’t it and she agreed .

I did leave in the Treatwell review that she offered me free things to remove it and called me multiple times, I would imagine a lot of people would be intimated by being called by an annoyed manager over their review so I feel she crossed a line and I’ve emailed Treatwell.

In her response to me she basically blames me and says they offered to fix it and she stands by they didn’t deserve one star 😵‍💫😵‍💫

It seems my google review has vanished

I'd write on their social media op. What a terribly unprofessional way to conduct their business!
Gonnagetgoing · 19/11/2021 10:10

@nohouseyet - I do feel OP is a bit out of order naming them on MN but a bad review and anything else she does on social media isn’t really out of order because I do think the salon not only did a bad job but also harassed her afterwards.

A few years ago I left an immediate bad review after my first and only visit to a hair salon (can’t even think of what they did) but I recall coming out, getting on the bus (and it was a good cut and highlights but it was very expensive salon) and what happened was it was a deal and they’d forgotten to charge me for the cut (it also wasn’t made clear in the small print so they asked me to return to pay the extra! The receptionist was rude though when I arrived, like she knew I had an offer and therefore wasn’t a regular client. I think if she’d been nicer I might have returned!

Gonnagetgoing · 19/11/2021 10:12

Actually scratch what I said above - I didn’t leave a bad review immediately after leaving but after they rang me. Their fault, if they’re disorganised with pricing, payments, offers then they shouldn’t be chasing you for payment when you leave!

@Theunamedcat

It looks OK but if its not what you wanted its not what you wanted you complained at the time and they ignored you so what were they expecting?
Yeah, I think this is all there is to it really.

And no, I wouldn't be happy with that fringe, but it'll grow and will probably also look better once you've styled it yourself.

It's not a disaster, the rest of the cut / colour was ok and you paid full price accordingly. You advised you weren't happy with this and they refused to acknowledge / rectify. So I'm not sure what they are moaning about. This is the whole point of reviews.

EuromamaAussiekids · 20/11/2021 13:24

It looks okayish . Maybe I'd expect this from a student hairdresser?
