Was I wrong to tell hairdresser the truth ? Pic*

I have been going to a new hair salon since the summer so this was visit 4/5…

I have lovely long thick hair and I’m quite specific and clear about what I want, more so over the fringe as I’ve had bad ones in the past. The hairdresser has cut my hair on two previous occasions with no issues but today in my eyes she butchered it and my British politeness evaded me when I looked in the mirror…

She asked if I liked it … I have a sharp No!
She asked why don’t you like it ? I explained that it was wonky, above the eyebrow when I specifically said I wanted it just below and the thinning had given different thickness throughout … the hairdresser was clearly shocked I said no and said ‘ I’ve seen lots of fringes and this is fine ‘

The manager also sided with her, I paid and left ( £90) for the colour cut and blow dry. A few mins after leaving the salon calls me and I ignore as I’m raging at this point on my phone to my friend and then a mobile number calls me and it’s the manager calling off her phone to tell me off for leaving a 1 star on Treatwell… is that even allowed ?

She asked me to remove the one and said giggling ‘ we really don’t deserve the one ‘ I said I deserved a decent cut . She said she didn’t know how I felt about it I pointed out she was there the whole time standing and I paid her and spoke about it at the end … she said what do you want to be happy ? I’ll give you discount or free £15 treatment next time…. Next time ?! Hell no!

I made a excuse to get off the line but I did leave a google review and a photo.

Was I wrong to be not typically British politeness and straight up say NO when asked if I liked it … ? What is your opinion on that fringe cut ? For context it was just below my eyebrows , even and the same thickness when I went in

I think it’s horrendous that they removed your review. I know google can remove reviews themselves if the review breaches their policies. Could it have been the photo that triggered it? I do know there is a business google page help line for businesses and maybe they could help customer about your review? Not sure but you can google to get this helpline

Best of luck

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 17/11/2021 10:09

YANBU - if they asked if you were happy with it and you said no, then they should have handled that in a better way.

Thanks . I actually uploaded it again. What’s annoying is the fake positive ones she appears to be doing in some form of damage control!

A hairdresser called Norma ? I think that explains it 😬😬😂

DameMaureen · 17/11/2021 20:09

The reviews all seem to be written by someone who is not a native English speaker 😂 eg "grate pedi" but then maybe she was telling the truth ...

"lovely experience my hair looks grate , i deffinatly recomend "

"excelent salon ,, mant treatment, thoughtfull stuff,"

Oh OP please don't go back !

SunshineCake1 · 17/11/2021 20:10

Ooo I think we can sort her out Grin.

Brighton5555 · 17/11/2021 20:23

Yes they are leaving fake positive ones mentioning ‘ how amazing norma is ‘ how funny when she’s the one who did this …. I can’t believer the owner has acted like this . I could never have guessed how truly pathetic and unprofessional she really was

@Brighton5555 - Don't think it looks dreadful but can see one side is longer.

I changed hairdressers because I kept asking for a blunt cut ( my previously thick hair is getting thinner with age ) and because they think it is fairly thick they always try to thin it & I ask them to stop. It got boring so I have found another hairdresser - spoke to the woman & she said "got it" . She does what I ask . & is cheaper than the other hairdresser. My decision not hers what I look like .

But as others have said - hair only grows one way - so a fringe will grow out. Irritating but it will happen. . I would not be happy with someone removing a genuine post about the service. I think time to find a more congenial hairdresser.

To be honest I don't think the fringe looks bad on you I think it is quite pretty but if it is not what you wanted it is not what you wanted.

CaptaNoctem · 17/11/2021 21:02

@Dontfuckingsaycheese

Ps. I beg for more snippy snippy thinning! They’re usually reluctant. Yours really seems at home with it!
Oh yes me too - I'm always saying a bit more thinning of the fringe! She never does it enough.
TerryOrange · 17/11/2021 22:34

I can see the review.
A salon who uses treat well or groupon won’t be a good one (in this area)
I found a really bad website too.
Sorry you had this experience, the is place looks very bad

Thanks lesson learned ! I will find a better hairdresser next month … what’s annoying is the fact she’s posting a ton of positive reviews from made up accounts. At least what I said I could back up with photos

But you were happy with everything except the fringe!!

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 18/11/2021 01:36

Jeez - why such a crusade over a fringe?

TarzansFavouriteThong · 18/11/2021 02:23

It's not a crusade Hmm it's a thread on mumsnet about a bad experience with customer service. The fact that it's 'just' a fringe is ridiculous because the OP is talking about a hairdresser. They literally have one job which they buggered up. That's like going to a sweet shop, asking for a bag of pear drops, they give you a bag of chocolate buttons instead and when you complain someone says 'it's just sweets'. The point is it's not what you asked for!

The harassment by the management for the review and the fake reviews are awful. I'd be emailing the review website and asking them to check the IP address of all the new positive reviews...

stayathomer · 18/11/2021 05:45

People can correct me if I'm wrong but OP you shouldn't be naming the salon and the manager. The whole point of this forum is that you're non identifiable. People should only name when it's to gush about something or someone, I'd get this removed

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 18/11/2021 06:08

And it just comes across as spiteful!

Ducksareruiningmypatio · 18/11/2021 07:50

@MyrtlethePurpleTurtle

And it just comes across as spiteful!
So is giggling at a customer that is unhappy shrug If it prevents someone else booking with them then they've done them a favour. The amount of times I've had really shit service only to find the terrible reviews afterwards
DiscoStusMoonboots · 18/11/2021 08:09

Do you have a cow lick at the front centre of your fringe? Either way, easiest thing to do would have been to ask them to blunt off the fringe so it was all one length. I honestly don't think it's a bad job, and definitely not worth a 1* review just because it's not how you envisaged. If something is not right, you need to direct the hairdresser so they can amend it.

middleager · 18/11/2021 08:26

They've made it thin and wispy.
During lockdown, I gave myself a fringe like this using thinning scissors. I hated it.

This is not acceptable for a professional salon.
