Was I wrong to tell hairdresser the truth ? Pic*

I have been going to a new hair salon since the summer so this was visit 4/5…

I have lovely long thick hair and I’m quite specific and clear about what I want, more so over the fringe as I’ve had bad ones in the past. The hairdresser has cut my hair on two previous occasions with no issues but today in my eyes she butchered it and my British politeness evaded me when I looked in the mirror…

She asked if I liked it … I have a sharp No!
She asked why don’t you like it ? I explained that it was wonky, above the eyebrow when I specifically said I wanted it just below and the thinning had given different thickness throughout … the hairdresser was clearly shocked I said no and said ‘ I’ve seen lots of fringes and this is fine ‘

The manager also sided with her, I paid and left ( £90) for the colour cut and blow dry. A few mins after leaving the salon calls me and I ignore as I’m raging at this point on my phone to my friend and then a mobile number calls me and it’s the manager calling off her phone to tell me off for leaving a 1 star on Treatwell… is that even allowed ?

She asked me to remove the one and said giggling ‘ we really don’t deserve the one ‘ I said I deserved a decent cut . She said she didn’t know how I felt about it I pointed out she was there the whole time standing and I paid her and spoke about it at the end … she said what do you want to be happy ? I’ll give you discount or free £15 treatment next time…. Next time ?! Hell no!

I made a excuse to get off the line but I did leave a google review and a photo.

Was I wrong to be not typically British politeness and straight up say NO when asked if I liked it … ? What is your opinion on that fringe cut ? For context it was just below my eyebrows , even and the same thickness when I went in

OP for context, could you show us an example of what type of fringe you were going for? How specific were you with the hairdresser about what look you wanted?

ChuckMater · 15/11/2021 20:01

They are so out of order offering you discount in the future purely because you left a bad review. You was right to tell them before you paid you weren't happy, although unable to correct it they could save offered something to appease you but weren't bothered and now only care because you've left an honest review!

SafeMove · 15/11/2021 20:02

It definitely does look like my attempt at a fringe when I tried to do one with safety scissors, age 10. There is a bit in the middle that they have thinned out. I think a very good hairdresser could correct it by pulling more hair over and cutting in more volume.

Teaandtoastedbiscuits · 15/11/2021 20:03

I think you were right to leave the one

ohtwatbollocks · 15/11/2021 20:03

Tbh I would edit my review and say the manager rang you to moan at you for leaving this review but accepted your full payment knowing you were unhappy 😅
I never get threads like this when people say 'it looks fine' yes, it might look fine but if it's not what I fucking asked for I shall be pissed off! Well done for standing your ground and telling them, too many people just say 'it's fine' and then moan later, they had chance to say it was free or discount(I get they can't really rectify it) and they didn't so you now have your chance to warn people 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think it's fine of you to do!

nonettles · 15/11/2021 20:04

If it’s not what you wanted, fair enough, but sounds to me like you were rude and unpleasant about it. These things happen sometimes, nobody’s perfect, mistakes happen, no need to be a dick about it.
The reasonable thing IMO would have been to politely explain you aren’t keen, request a reduction before paying, and refrain from leaving any review.

BeenHereForAges · 15/11/2021 20:05

I think that looks awful, I'm sorry OP. Bloody good for you for telling them though. If they'd been that bothered they'd have given you an apology and decent discount. Asking you to remove the picture is basically them admitting it looks shit imo.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 15/11/2021 20:07

I don't think it's terrible, and I wouldn't have given them a 1. Maybe a 3 and a comment about them not listening to what I asked for.

Are you the hairdresser? 😂
IncompleteSenten · 15/11/2021 20:07

It's too short and it's wonky
Why the hell shouldn't you say so?

Jayaywhynot · 15/11/2021 20:08

As the recipient of lots of dodgy haircuts, which in my britishness I always say "thank you, I love it" and promptly burst into tears when I get home, I applaud you OP, they royally fucked up your fringe and deserve their one star.
Well done for not backing down.
I'm getting my hair cut on Friday, it's thick and chin length and my hairdresser insists I have a 4 weekly appointment even though its not grown out, she books me three appointments ahead, I'm too cowardly to argue, she always goes too short and thins it out too much even though I tell her not too plus it costs me £95.
Youve inspired me to stand up for myself

LawnFever · 15/11/2021 20:09

You’re not unreasonable at all, that feathering is really dated, especially if you asked for a thick blunt fringe, I’d be livid.

Can you pull more hair forward to disguise it until it grows out a bit?

uhohspaghettiohh · 15/11/2021 20:09

Are you the manager?

It looks awful, OP, and I'd be the same. Hope it grows quickly.

0blio · 15/11/2021 20:10

It doesn't look great, sorry and I don't understand why hairdressers always want to thin out fringes until they're really wispy? It's the only part of my hair I like blunt cut and I have to remind my hairdresser every time.

Wrenna · 15/11/2021 20:10

Yanbu

Shock

Change hairdressers surely? Or say you'll phone up and book when you have your diary to hand, then book them only as frequently as you want.

NewRoadToHappinessxx · 15/11/2021 20:13

Looks nice IMO but if it’s not what you wanted then I guess don’t go there again. 1 star is a little mean if you’d had 4 haircuts you liked. It’s not like she shaved half your head off and if you were happy with the colour?

Tittyfilarious81 · 15/11/2021 20:14

I havey fringe below my eyebrows I detest it being cut above it looks terrible on me and quite a few hairdressers have cut it wrong over the years ,so no op yanbu I'd be pissed off too

Brighton5555 · 15/11/2021 20:14

Oh I will never return thats for sure . Yes it was super clear what I wanted, the same lady has cut my hair 3 times before I’m kinda boring always have the same thing ( trim) just as she turned me to her to do the fringe I said to her below the eyebrows and it’s better to go bit by bit so we can see it’s not too short isn’t it and she agreed .

I did leave in the Treatwell review that she offered me free things to remove it and called me multiple times, I would imagine a lot of people would be intimated by being called by an annoyed manager over their review so I feel she crossed a line and I’ve emailed Treatwell.

In her response to me she basically blames me and says they offered to fix it and she stands by they didn’t deserve one star 😵‍💫😵‍💫

It seems my google review has vanished

I would edit my review and say

Edited to edit.

I have lovely long thick hair and I’m quite specific and clear about what I want. At the end of the cut, she asked if I liked it I didn't and said so. I was asked to explain why not- so I explained that it was wonky, above the eyebrow when I specifically said I wanted it just below and the thinning had given different thickness throughout … the hairdresser said ‘ I’ve seen lots of fringes and this is fine'. The manager also sided with her, I paid and left ( £90) for the colour cut and blow dry. I paid the amount requested and left but left a review of 1 star, explaining the above. The manager phones me to tell me off for leaving a 1 star on Treatwell.

Thank you for your offer -after I had said very politely why I didn't like it -but the giggling and the offer of a discount 'next time' -no thanks. No one was angling for a freebie -here -but customer service, being laughed at is not professional . Thanks

NotJustACigar · 15/11/2021 20:16

It doesn't look good (sorry, I'm sure it will grow out soon) and wasn't what you wanted and when you complained they did nothing to try to resolve the issue. So you're definitely not unreasonable to have left a 1 review. I would block their numbers and 1 google and yelp reviews also after the phone call.

Fromage · 15/11/2021 20:17

I'm sorry, but it is a bad fringe. You were right to complain and I would amend my Treatwell review to include the harrassment from the arsehole manager.

You didn't like the cut. They told you you were wrong to dislike it. On those gaslit grounds alone I would be furious, but it is a poorly cut fringe. No one wants a fringe like that.

It should grow out quite quickly though, I would hope? If that's any consolation.

DickMabutt73962 · 15/11/2021 20:17

I think it looks awful don’t know what the first couple posters are on about. Thankfully it will grow back

clatterclatter · 15/11/2021 20:18

Sorry OP it looks terrible but you already know this.

Sorry they were such dicks, they deserve their 1*

Fromage · 15/11/2021 20:19

Sorry, x posted about the review.

Sounds like she has shot herself in the foot with her response, though, if that's any consolation.
