Was I wrong to tell hairdresser the truth ? Pic*

I have been going to a new hair salon since the summer so this was visit 4/5…

I have lovely long thick hair and I’m quite specific and clear about what I want, more so over the fringe as I’ve had bad ones in the past. The hairdresser has cut my hair on two previous occasions with no issues but today in my eyes she butchered it and my British politeness evaded me when I looked in the mirror…

She asked if I liked it … I have a sharp No!
She asked why don’t you like it ? I explained that it was wonky, above the eyebrow when I specifically said I wanted it just below and the thinning had given different thickness throughout … the hairdresser was clearly shocked I said no and said ‘ I’ve seen lots of fringes and this is fine ‘

The manager also sided with her, I paid and left ( £90) for the colour cut and blow dry. A few mins after leaving the salon calls me and I ignore as I’m raging at this point on my phone to my friend and then a mobile number calls me and it’s the manager calling off her phone to tell me off for leaving a 1 star on Treatwell… is that even allowed ?

She asked me to remove the one and said giggling ‘ we really don’t deserve the one ‘ I said I deserved a decent cut . She said she didn’t know how I felt about it I pointed out she was there the whole time standing and I paid her and spoke about it at the end … she said what do you want to be happy ? I’ll give you discount or free £15 treatment next time…. Next time ?! Hell no!

I made a excuse to get off the line but I did leave a google review and a photo.

Was I wrong to be not typically British politeness and straight up say NO when asked if I liked it … ? What is your opinion on that fringe cut ? For context it was just below my eyebrows , even and the same thickness when I went in

It looks like it was cut with a potato peeler but it'll be fine in a week or two.

Londoncallingme · 16/11/2021 18:07

It’s not a great fringe. It will grow. Reviews are there for a purpose and it’s good that you shared.

CrazyTimesAreOccurring · 16/11/2021 18:16

@Dnaltocs

It’s fashionably cut. There’s no pleasing some folk. A longer fringe would cast a shadow looking like wrinkles. Thereby ageing you. I thought it looked great. The hairdresser will most probably be really upset and your fringe is fine.
No it isnt fashionably cut, and so what if you think it looks great Hmm you aren't the OP!

Who cares if the hairdresser is upset lol Grin she doesn't have to look at in the mirror and can toddle off having been paid to do a rubbish job

JonSnowIsALoser · 16/11/2021 18:19

The fringe is really bad. Good for you for not pretending you liked it. The only way I'd agree to remove a one-star review is if the salon offered me a full refund for the botched haircut.

As for "offering to fix it", you can't fix hair that they've cut too much of. Nothing's left to fix.

Trinidading3 · 16/11/2021 18:27

Ask them for a refund in writing, if they do not give you a refund take them to the small claims court. You will most likely get a refund and compensation for the distress causedFlowers

That and losing £90 on a shoddy haircut that not only has a shit fringe but is also wonky each side. You pay for a job to be done right not a bodge job.
August1980 · 16/11/2021 18:37

Just want to say… I am tearful after every hair appointment…Angry

maybloss2 · 16/11/2021 18:40

It’s your hair and it’s not what you asked for. More people should say so if it happens to them. Although I don’t think it’s looks horrid, she wasn’t responding to your complaint at all. The whole point of reviews is to be honest. Otherwise what’s the point? Generally I can tell if someone has had unreasonable expectations in a bad review.

CrazyTimesAreOccurring · 16/11/2021 18:41

Phew!! didnt realise that hair grows! Thank goodness for the wise words of @Clarich007

So, there you go @Brighton5555 apparently "hair grows" and also this poster feels that this is all you have to worry about - patronising, much?

ShaneTheThird · 16/11/2021 18:41

If it makes you feel better op I once went to the hairdresser and asked for Bridget Bardot curtain bangs and showed three photos of her. The hairdresser said that's easy!!! She then proceeded to cut a straight fringe about 2cm above my eyebrows making me look like Betty page I was speechless and told her it was shit. In fact my actual words at the time was what the fuck?!

Cydonia · 16/11/2021 18:41

I feel you OP. I had my fringe trimmed on Saturday, also wanted it just under the eyebrows and it’s too short. It’s also too full, ironically it’s probably more like what you wanted, whereas yours is more like what I wanted ( if it was longer! ) I feel like I look stupid, but at least mine was free and it does grow pretty quickly. But no, YANBU.

TSSDNCOP · 16/11/2021 18:43

Compare and contrast. I just switched hairdressers and the new stylist, who I like and can see being a keeper cocked up the colour. I ummed for a couple of weeks and then rang her. She immediately booked me in to fix it and didn't charge at all.

I know it's a colour not a cut story, but if you want to keep a client it's all about how you sort the problem. If they'd done something there an then the issue wouldn't have escalated.

epponneee · 16/11/2021 18:44

YANBU. The length is too short and I don't know why it has been thinned like that. When I had a fringe it looked a bit like that (not quite as short) but I have a problem with thinning hair. And the hairdresser even alerted me in advance that because of my thin hair the finished effect wouldn't be as full as what I wanted. if you already have thick hair I have no idea why they'd do this.
And the behaviour afterwards is basically harassment!

Turkishangora · 16/11/2021 18:47

If you don't like it and it's not what you asked for them YANBU. I've had more bad cuts and colours than good and I'm simply not prepared to waste my money at the hairdresser's anymore. The majority are awful these days, don't listen, don't concentrate and have very poor skills.

The one star review was perfectly justified. They should have given you a refund immediately.

Words · 16/11/2021 18:50

I'm just reeling at the thought of five trips to the hairdressers since ? August?Shock

I hate going . Five trips for me is several years' worth.

But yes that fringe is very bad and looks just like the one I attempted on myself during the first lockdown. It took a surprisingly long time to grow out actually.

Find another salon.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 16/11/2021 18:56

@Haggisfish3

I think yabu if I’m honest. It looks like a small ruffle with fingers might sort it.
You're joking? It's awful (sorry, OP). I did better than that on my DH in lockdown, and I'm utterly shite at haircuts.

OP, any reputable salon would have tried to correct it or - as that's difficult in the circumstances - perhaps offered you a free tidy up in a couple of weeks, and/or a discount. They deserve their 1 star.

Brighton5555 · 16/11/2021 19:02

The potato peeler had me laughing ! I have felt so self conscious all day . I washed and tried to use straighteners to no avail.

4/5 times since August at this place but 2 of them was beauty and this was 3rd time for hair with same stylist

Here’s a update

When I see it I actually laugh in shock of how shite it really is

All I keep hearing is the echo of my own voice saying ‘ just below the eyebrows ‘

OP posts:
Atozofpoodles · 16/11/2021 19:07

I din’t think they deserve a 1! You seem like really hard work tbh. Your fringe is fine, attitude not so much.

rainbowninja · 16/11/2021 19:07

I had this happen to me a few weeks back and I still can't wear it as a fringe, I clip it back. I knew straight away it was awful but wasn't brave enough to say so good on you for doing it.

I also wanted just a normal straight along the eyebrows or even longer type fringe but I got it above the brows and thinned out like yours. What are they thinking? Surely they need to ask before doing something so drastic?

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 16/11/2021 19:09

@NewRoadToHappinessxx

Looks nice IMO but if it’s not what you wanted then I guess don’t go there again. 1 star is a little mean if you’d had 4 haircuts you liked. It’s not like she shaved half your head off and if you were happy with the colour?
Agree with this

Are we looking at the same photos?!

It's very wonky and thin. It's certainly not below the eyebrows.

Sorry OP the new pics are even worse.

StopGo · 16/11/2021 19:22

Bloody hell!!! Thats awful, did she use nail scissors. Sorry Flowers
