Was I wrong to tell hairdresser the truth ? Pic*

I have been going to a new hair salon since the summer so this was visit 4/5…

I have lovely long thick hair and I’m quite specific and clear about what I want, more so over the fringe as I’ve had bad ones in the past. The hairdresser has cut my hair on two previous occasions with no issues but today in my eyes she butchered it and my British politeness evaded me when I looked in the mirror…

She asked if I liked it … I have a sharp No!
She asked why don’t you like it ? I explained that it was wonky, above the eyebrow when I specifically said I wanted it just below and the thinning had given different thickness throughout … the hairdresser was clearly shocked I said no and said ‘ I’ve seen lots of fringes and this is fine ‘

The manager also sided with her, I paid and left ( £90) for the colour cut and blow dry. A few mins after leaving the salon calls me and I ignore as I’m raging at this point on my phone to my friend and then a mobile number calls me and it’s the manager calling off her phone to tell me off for leaving a 1 star on Treatwell… is that even allowed ?

She asked me to remove the one and said giggling ‘ we really don’t deserve the one ‘ I said I deserved a decent cut . She said she didn’t know how I felt about it I pointed out she was there the whole time standing and I paid her and spoke about it at the end … she said what do you want to be happy ? I’ll give you discount or free £15 treatment next time…. Next time ?! Hell no!

I made a excuse to get off the line but I did leave a google review and a photo.

Was I wrong to be not typically British politeness and straight up say NO when asked if I liked it … ? What is your opinion on that fringe cut ? For context it was just below my eyebrows , even and the same thickness when I went in

Thats actually my dream fringe - I hate having hair anywhere near my eyes as I read so much and Im long sighted so thats a good one in my books. I have to literally force my hairdresser to give me a fringe like that.

mrsbitaly · 16/11/2021 21:04

I wish I had the balls to be like this. I asked for my balayage to be even lighter I literally walked out darker with a weird non colour she was overly enthusiastic about it being nice and I sat there like a nodding dog saying I liked it but inside I was crying that I just blew all that money to go back 2 steps

wentworthinmate · 16/11/2021 21:19

Poor you OP, that is not good but as with fringes in my experience, they grow out fast.
You did the right thing, warn others via your review and never go back there again.

Ddot · 16/11/2021 21:55

Did she get a dog to chew it?

The fact you have to force your hairdresser is a good sign 😂😂😂

My eyes were closed at that point, and I’m suspecting she her self may have chewed at it

I din’t think they deserve a 1! You seem like really hard work tbh. Your fringe is fine, attitude not so much.

Love how posters who aren't walking round with a butchered fringe after paying good 💷 , are saying "it's fiiiiinnnnnee".

As if they know anything at all.

Ddot · 16/11/2021 22:33

It will grow fast, by christmas you will look lovely x

Debbils · 16/11/2021 22:41

I’m assuming this is not how the stylist left your hair? It’s so nice in the first photo you posted. It’s really unfortunate that there has been miscommunication between yourself and the hairdresser but this is by no means a mess. You maybe needed some styling tips for coping with it at home. I bet the stylist was very upset. I really feel bad for her. Your hair has been cut well from what I can see. I’ve been a hairstylist for a very loooong time and honestly you have acted very badly in this situation. Bad reviews should be a very last resort 👎

WillyWollyWandy · 16/11/2021 22:52

Did you complain to google about your Google review?

DaisyStiener · 16/11/2021 22:58

What should’ve happened
OP “ I hate this”
*
fair enough- you’re the client and they’re always saying don’t ghost on us, tell us if you don’t like cut/colour etc and you did ask , not just say “ oh whatever you think “

Salon “ oh no! Give it a minute/*calls manager over for support that you do actually look fine”
“Still no? Come back in 3 weeks and I’ll tidy and trim it a bit blunter for you ,for free of course . I think I you look great, I’m so sorry you don’t like it! Eek! “
To call you and complain was actual madness. Of your weren’t raging before, you would’ve been then!?
In these days of social media, we often email/tweet out initial annoyance rather than sit and stew and wonder if it was worth the bother of buying a stamp and sending a letter lol.

You often hear /see stories of customer service where the client has left a bad review. And the business is replying, raging cos they thought it was sorted at the time , discounts were offered etc but that doesn’t seem to have happened here , so fair enough !

Hair stylists are actual mad IMO Grin I had my hair chopped dramatically after DC1 born ,and said “ can you leave it long enough so I can tie it up ,still and not too blunt so I can put in extensions and blend them
Came out with a blunt ear length Bob… Confused

You know what they say: what’s the difference between a good and a bad haircut?
2 weeks! Wink

RandomMess · 16/11/2021 23:27

I'd have cried!!! That took talent to make it look that bad Angry

thebestnamesweregone · 16/11/2021 23:38

You're well within your rights to leave a one star review! That's what reviewing is there for, to condemn/praise a service you've had, I'd be pissed if someone called me up questioning why (given that you'd already said there's a problem, so it shouldn't have been a shock to them!) or demanding it be taken down! 🤯🤯

thebestnamesweregone · 16/11/2021 23:41

@ohtwatbollocks

Tbh I would edit my review and say the manager rang you to moan at you for leaving this review but accepted your full payment knowing you were unhappy 😅 I never get threads like this when people say 'it looks fine' yes, it might look fine but if it's not what I fucking asked for I shall be pissed off! Well done for standing your ground and telling them, too many people just say 'it's fine' and then moan later, they had chance to say it was free or discount(I get they can't really rectify it) and they didn't so you now have your chance to warn people 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think it's fine of you to do!
This Plus DONT delete review but amend it like pp has said
thebestnamesweregone · 16/11/2021 23:44

@Poetrypatty

I'm getting my hair cut on Friday, it's thick and chin length and my hairdresser insists I have a 4 weekly appointment even though its not grown out, she books me three appointments ahead, I'm too cowardly to argue, she always goes too short and thins it out too much even though I tell her not too plus it costs me £95. Shock

Change hairdressers surely? Or say you'll phone up and book when you have your diary to hand, then book them only as frequently as you want.

Bloody hell, 4 weekly cuts at hairdressers insistence! Talk about bankrolling her!
thebestnamesweregone · 16/11/2021 23:47

@IAAP

I would edit my review and say

Edited to edit.

I have lovely long thick hair and I’m quite specific and clear about what I want. At the end of the cut, she asked if I liked it I didn't and said so. I was asked to explain why not- so I explained that it was wonky, above the eyebrow when I specifically said I wanted it just below and the thinning had given different thickness throughout … the hairdresser said ‘ I’ve seen lots of fringes and this is fine'. The manager also sided with her, I paid and left ( £90) for the colour cut and blow dry. I paid the amount requested and left but left a review of 1 star, explaining the above. The manager phones me to tell me off for leaving a 1 star on Treatwell.

Thank you for your offer -after I had said very politely why I didn't like it -but the giggling and the offer of a discount 'next time' -no thanks. No one was angling for a freebie -here -but customer service, being laughed at is not professional . Thanks

ANd being coerced into bribing you with free products for you to delete said review after several calls is a mild form of harassment!
S0upertrooper · 16/11/2021 23:49

I used the same hairdresser for over 10 years, followed her to different salons and when she opened her own salon. She went from stylist to manager when she started to be a bit distracted, interrupted by juniors, deliveries, phone calls and general manager stuff. A cut and colour too ages but I kept going because I liked her and on the whole I liked the end result.

She started getting the junior to check my colour and on my last visit, I think the junior got something wrong, gave me a "special treatment" and instead of blond highlights my hair was a sort of Ash grey. Nice on some but not my look and not what she'd done over the previous 10 years.

I was shocked, it made me look old and washed out and maybe I over reacted but I started crying, not because she'd made a balls of my hair but because I looked so old.

She used excuses "it's the in look" (way before covid grey) "you look fine". No apology but she clearly knew i was unhappy, the first time in over 10 years.

I can accept mistakes if the person owns it and apologises but she didn't and for that reason alone I never went back. She didn't phone to check at any point, had she done this i might have returned.

I don't think you were unreasonable OP, maybe if they had accepted the mistake, not gaslit you, offered a discount, you wouldn't have given them a low score. Terrible behaviour to phone you up and harass you, this alone needs reported.

bettyboop1975 · 17/11/2021 00:09

It’s too short and wonky no way would I have paid £90 !!

montysma1 · 17/11/2021 01:35

Am I the only one that likes it? 😂

Bertiebiscuit · 17/11/2021 01:39

It looks as if someone came at you with a strimmer - that fringe is terrible - but I have to say I don't think I would have paud, but given that you did pay, you absolutely should have given them a lousy review, others should be warned!!!! They are taking the p*ss, I would add their crass behaviour to the review, as this was dealt with totally unprofessionally, and others need to be warned about this shambles

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 17/11/2021 05:03

@Trinidading3

Ask them for a refund in writing, if they do not give you a refund take them to the small claims court. You will most likely get a refund and compensation for the distress causedFlowers
The fringe will be well below OP’s nose before a court hearing takes place. And, no, they’re won’t be compensation for the distaste st the transitory problem of an unsatisfactory fringe
Ddot · 17/11/2021 06:22

Take a piece of hair near your ear and scalp plait it over catching your fringe over to the other ear then clip it out off the way, hair hairband

Turkishangora · 17/11/2021 06:31

Haven't read all the comments but interesting there are a couple of hairstylists coming on chipping in that the op is unreasonable and the cut is "fine" and that she's a bad customer. Is gaslighting and lying to customers part of your training?! Hairstylists are a rip off and this whole "cut every 4 weeks" thing is bullshit to keep them in business. In my experience you have to be really really firm "shall I book you in now for your next appointment, just we're getting booked up?"... Me, "no that's ok I'll contact you thank you". I have shoulder length curly hair and get it trimmed twice a year. Not that I've really ever had a great cut as it's curly but and hairstylists can't cut curly hair but that's another story!

Bonnieonthelam · 17/11/2021 06:33

Sorry about your experience. You were right to complain. They should have given you a discount Or it should have been free. The fringe looks unevenly thinnned out. Stick to your review. Save someone from
Getting theirs messed up.

Brighton5555 · 17/11/2021 07:40

How can I challenge that she has removed the review from google ? It’s not where to be seen ?
