Was I wrong to tell hairdresser the truth ? Pic*

I have been going to a new hair salon since the summer so this was visit 4/5…

I have lovely long thick hair and I’m quite specific and clear about what I want, more so over the fringe as I’ve had bad ones in the past. The hairdresser has cut my hair on two previous occasions with no issues but today in my eyes she butchered it and my British politeness evaded me when I looked in the mirror…

She asked if I liked it … I have a sharp No!
She asked why don’t you like it ? I explained that it was wonky, above the eyebrow when I specifically said I wanted it just below and the thinning had given different thickness throughout … the hairdresser was clearly shocked I said no and said ‘ I’ve seen lots of fringes and this is fine ‘

The manager also sided with her, I paid and left ( £90) for the colour cut and blow dry. A few mins after leaving the salon calls me and I ignore as I’m raging at this point on my phone to my friend and then a mobile number calls me and it’s the manager calling off her phone to tell me off for leaving a 1 star on Treatwell… is that even allowed ?

She asked me to remove the one and said giggling ‘ we really don’t deserve the one ‘ I said I deserved a decent cut . She said she didn’t know how I felt about it I pointed out she was there the whole time standing and I paid her and spoke about it at the end … she said what do you want to be happy ? I’ll give you discount or free £15 treatment next time…. Next time ?! Hell no!

I made a excuse to get off the line but I did leave a google review and a photo.

Was I wrong to be not typically British politeness and straight up say NO when asked if I liked it … ? What is your opinion on that fringe cut ? For context it was just below my eyebrows , even and the same thickness when I went in

Oh i’m sorry OP! I wanted to come on the thread and say it still looked nice but… it’s really a terrible cut!
The good thing is, it will grow back eventually.
Can you find some hair styles to hid the fringe?

Mangofandangoo · 16/11/2021 19:23

It's not good - sorry OP. I would be asking for a refund ☹️

sanityisamyth · 16/11/2021 19:25

I struggled to get past you've been 4/5 times since the summer. I go once a year 🙈 must cost you a fortune! Hair looked fine in the pic ...

Katkinsgreyy · 16/11/2021 19:45

When I was a teenager I went to get my fringe cut. The hairdresser made it choppy and thinned out!!

Maybe my thicker, heavy fringe looked silly to her! But it was what I liked and I was so sad when she just did whatever the hell she wanted.

Capferret · 16/11/2021 19:49

I agree OP. That fringe is shocking!

I once had my hair cropped close to the back of my neck when I normally got a bob.
I complained and hairdresser said you have a nice neck, it suits you.
It’s not the point though, it’s not up to any hairdresser to justify a cut if it’s not what was asked for.

sonjadog · 16/11/2021 19:52

I think it looked not too bad in the first photo, but the updated ones really do show how bad it is. I think you were definitely justified in giving a bad review!

FatBettyintheCoop · 16/11/2021 19:52

@sunshine11

It's hair. It will grow back. Lesson learned to be more specific with hairdresser. Now grow up.
No, the client shouldn’t need to know any technical lingo at all.

A decent hairdresser should find out exactly what the client wants during the consultation process and keep checking with the client during the cut.

A crap hairdresser is one who doesn’t put any effort into the consultation and does what they want to/are capable of doing and isn’t interested in whether the client is happy or not.

CambsAlways · 16/11/2021 19:55

I think you were right, if I go to a hairdresser and tell them the cut I want, I do expect it to be done correctly, I don’t like it either op, it isn’t a good cut very unprofessional a fringe can ruin the whole hairstyle if not done properly

FatBettyintheCoop · 16/11/2021 19:56

@Atozofpoodles

I din’t think they deserve a 1! You seem like really hard work tbh. Your fringe is fine, attitude not so much.
The fringe is seriously shit. I’d expect a trainee hairdresser who has only completed one year of training to do a better job!

If this person is supposed to be qualified, I wouldn’t let them near a tub of bleach!

WickedWitchOfTheEast87 · 16/11/2021 19:56

Jesus OP the hairdresser has really butchered your fringe! That's bad enough but to charge you full price and then have the nerve to call you angrily because you gave them a bad review is downright fucking cheeky! 😲😲 The manager has some brass neck I would have told her to fuck right off!

I've also got thick hair its like a lions mane and I've been butchered a few times so I get how self conscious you must be feeling. My older sister took me to a hairdressing appointment when I was a kid and the hairdresser did a really wonky cut and then tried to cover it by styling it as a middle parting and saying it was layers 🙄 the wonkiness was still so obvious! When my sister took me home my mum was fuming she took me back down there and complained to the manager. The hairdresser interrupted and said that she had done it how my sister told her (she said a trim my hair was just past my shoulders and when the hairdresser was done it was a wonky bob cut) then lied saying I kept fidgeting which I hadn't. My mum told the hairdresser she needs to go back into training if she thinks my cut was acceptable and the manager had to get another hairdresser to fix it which to be fair the other hairdresser tried her best she sorted the uneven bits out but my fringe wasn't fixable it was similar to yours but shorter and the manager gave my mum a refund.

The hairdresser who fixed it now works at the salon where I currently get my hair done and I remembered her all these years later. When I brought it up she told me that the hairdresser who gave me the wonky cut was eventually sacked because she kept butchering clients hair and the manager had to keep refunding their money or not charging them so she got rid because it was costing her business money!

OP find another hairdressers or ask a friend to reccomend one for the foreseeable future and definitely contact the review page no one else deserves to have to their hair butchered or get phone calls off thw manager having a tantrum because of her piss poor attitude!

JazzyBBG · 16/11/2021 19:57

It looks thin in the middle was it meant to be sharp a la Claudia?

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 16/11/2021 19:58

You weren't happy with their service but didn''t complain at the time.

You paid.

Then you left a shitty review.

And moaned about it online.

Sorry, but that makes you a shitty customer.

Have you actually read the OP?

Mmmmmum · 16/11/2021 20:03

You could have handled your complaint better. Poor hairdresser. She is only human. I expect you have had a bad day in the past and made a mistake. Hair grows. There are bigger issues in life.

LadyWithLapdog · 16/11/2021 20:08

You know what’s too short? Life is too short. Give it a couple of weeks and you’ll feel a bit embarrassed about this massive over-reaction.

Debbils · 16/11/2021 20:10

Your fringe is actually really nice x I am a hairstylist and this choppy look is very fashionable. It’s a shame there was a misunderstanding between yourself and the stylist but I’m very sure they were doing something in good faith as as I said it is a popular style of fringe. What would you have wanted the girl to do to rectify it? Leaving a bad rating is a bit harsh to be honest x

Anyone can make a mistake but, when you work in a service industry, you need to put mistakes right, where possible, and apologise when you can't. The hairdresser had the chance to apologise and decided to double-down instead.

And, yes, there are bigger issues in life but, if nobody cared about their hair, hairdressers would be fucked, wouldn't they? If you work in a profession that no one actually needs to survive, and where there is a lot of competition, that's all the more reason to treat your customers well.

No, it doesn’t make her a shitty customer. Utter Bollocks! She did try to complain at the time but they wouldn’t listen to her.

C’mon. Any half decent hairdresser would realise it’s a dreadful cut!

We know that clients might feel uncomfortable saying when they’re not happy and I absolutely despise salon hairdressers who gang up on clients trying to convince them the hair looks wonderful when they’ve obviously ballsed up.

I had one colleague who was over confident and lacked basic skills who got the manager to convince his client her hair looked great when it was an unholy over-bleached mess. I left that salon soon afterwards as I couldn’t work with people like that.

They deserve a zero star rating for the lying and manipulation alone!

You don’t need to be

Debbils · 16/11/2021 20:13

There’s really nothing shot about it 🤷‍♀️

Debbils · 16/11/2021 20:13

“Shit” lol

SweetBabyCheeses99 · 16/11/2021 20:47

So they’re definitely not allowed to call you re the Treatwell review! This happened to me once and Treatwell were pretty good about it and had some sort of sanctions policy.

Megan1992xx · 16/11/2021 20:55

It looks truly terrible I think i would have bought a wig!

Kteeb1 · 16/11/2021 20:58

Yanbu at all. It does look short and you raised that you werent happy at the time which places always complain about if you don't. They ignored you and only offered you recourse once you left a review. They sound terrible.

WickedWitchOfTheEast87 · 16/11/2021 20:59

So the OP could have handled her complaint better but what about the manager's behaviour? She charged the OP £90 despite knowing OP was unhappy, then when OP gave a bad review with a photo the manager phoned OP and when she got no answer called OP off of her personal mobile being nasty and demanding she delete her review. Is that acceptable behaviour in handling a client's unhappiness in a professional manner?
