Is it really that bad - Tesco Advert

Isthatthebestyoucando · 14/11/2021 18:20

People on Twitter are calling for a boycott of Tesco because of this ad

Apparently it's a political message of medical apartheid.

AIBU to think it's one small scene in an advert referencing last years lack of Christmas? FWIW I'm not crazy about Tesco in general and I don't think people should be coerced into medical treatments they are unhappy to take..... but seriously is this advert worth a boycott?

I’ve just it. I don’t see anything wrong with it.

Onaloop · 14/11/2021 18:23

I just watched it and have no idea whats wrong with it??

dementedpixie · 14/11/2021 18:24

Some people are just bonkers. I thought it was amusing

IncessantNameChanger · 14/11/2021 18:25

I wish I had head space to get worked up about things like this. I spend a lot of time complaining to my LA about the services for my disabled child. I cant imagine doing the same over TV adverts. Horses for courses. People have to feel passionate about changing something I guess?

dementedpixie · 14/11/2021 18:25

It's because Santa has a covid pass so anti vaxxers are getting worked up about it

CherieBabySpliffUp · 14/11/2021 18:27

They can boycott all they want, it will make Tesco quieter for the sane part of the population Grin

GreyhoundG1rl · 14/11/2021 18:29

Medical apartheid! Give me a break...

YesItsMeIDontCare · 14/11/2021 18:29

Does that mean they'll be no anti-vaxxers in Tesco's?

That's a win 😁

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 14/11/2021 18:30

When l first read about this l felt it was a bit insensitive of Tesco but having seen it - some people just can't help but get offended. I bet they aren't even anti vax.

mustlovegin · 14/11/2021 18:33

They probably should have left out the Covid pass bit to avoid controversy, otherwise the ad is fine.

Medical apartheid sounds hyperbolic

GreyhoundG1rl · 14/11/2021 18:33

It's not remotely insensitive of Tesco Confused

womaninatightspot · 14/11/2021 18:34

I think it's quite funny. I shop at Tesco anyway but I suspect if you want to get a viral ad campaign going then having people complain about it is probably the best way to go.

Isthatthebestyoucando · 14/11/2021 18:36

I loved the Aldi Ebenana Scrooge advert until the end message was 'be kind', I absolutely hate the be kind message but you know it wont make me boycott the place.

whymewhyme · 14/11/2021 18:37

Im double vaccinated but it think the covid pass should of been left out, i see it as them trying to normalise them.

PingedPotato · 14/11/2021 18:37

Aw it's cute. I like it

YesItsMeIDontCare · 14/11/2021 18:37

Nah - that's why they've done it.

dementedpixie · 14/11/2021 18:38

Tesco have definitely played a blinder and got everyone talking about their advert.

Onlinedilema · 14/11/2021 18:39

I couldn't care less.

dementedpixie · 14/11/2021 18:39

I have a covid pass as I'm in Scotland so for me it is normal

catsareme14 · 14/11/2021 18:39

Fuss about nothing !!!

SqueakyPeaks · 14/11/2021 18:40

Oh ffs. I remember one of the first sweet news items when COVID hit was that the tooth fairy and Santa could still get through. Was it the NZ PM who did the famous interview? I don't recall right now, just I thought it was a terribly kind thing to say at the time.

I wonder what kind of social affliction this is to be so perpetually incandescent about nothing.

Bwix · 14/11/2021 18:41

I think it’s great.

I think this was the intention if I'm honest, everyone is talking about tesco now, a fair amount of free advertising for them. I think it will only be a minute number of people who actually boycott them, I'd say even a very large majority of unvaccinated tesco regulars aren't bothered enough to go to the effort of shopping somewhere else.
Tal45 · 14/11/2021 18:42

Calling it Medical apartheid is what's offensive, Tesco are not saying you can't go in if you're not vaccinated. I'm guessing no one who's actually lived under apartheid is using that term.
