Is it really that bad - Tesco Advert

Isthatthebestyoucando · 14/11/2021 18:20

People on Twitter are calling for a boycott of Tesco because of this ad

Apparently it's a political message of medical apartheid.

AIBU to think it's one small scene in an advert referencing last years lack of Christmas? FWIW I'm not crazy about Tesco in general and I don't think people should be coerced into medical treatments they are unhappy to take..... but seriously is this advert worth a boycott?

The McDonalds ad Confused. What's the issue?
Some of the "feedback" included I am not ok mentally after watching that? Somehow I suspect they weren't too well before watching it either.

Youngatheart00 · 14/11/2021 19:51

I think it’s brilliant!

The deluded anti-vaxxers can boycott Tesco - that would suit the vast majority of us quite well.

TheLikesofMe · 14/11/2021 19:53

I'm all for it and if Santa had refused his Covid vaccination then he must keep his big fat red arse away from my chimney.

No Christmas cheer here for unvaccinated santas, elves or other twollops.

😂😂😂 . I disagreed with you branding the COVID passport "shitty".
There is no polite argument to that.

stereeotype · 14/11/2021 19:53

Some people have lost their minds OP that's all. Nothing offensive about the ad at all.

FreeElf · 14/11/2021 19:54

Great advert, topical, funny and Christmassy as well. Can’t see any issue with it at all,

Mackmama · 14/11/2021 19:57

I’ve not seen it but can it be any worse than the Very one that’s been doing everyone’s heads in for weeks now encouraging people to use the excuse ‘it’s Christmas’ to buy themselves loads of stuff they can then spend years paying for at massive interest rates?! That annoys me a bit!

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 14/11/2021 19:58

Just watched the McDonalds advert, I don’t see anything that could cause offence in it? Confused

supermoonrising · 14/11/2021 19:59

@GreyhoundG1rl
I stand by my original point: putting ANY Covid references in an ad, let alone Covid references in a Christmas ad is shitty and insensitive. Stuff like a global pandemic, climate change, Brexit etc aren’t just some whimsical real life events that your company can riff on in a funny ad to boost seasonal sales. This stuff is/has caused pain and heartbreak to thousands/millions of people. So if you do go down that route as a company - expect to be called out on it. It’s cheap.

I welcome your response to my points, but have a go at doing it without the bad language.

TheLastLonelyBakedBean · 14/11/2021 20:00

Great advert made me lol 😂

userisi · 14/11/2021 20:07

You do realise your articulate argument as to why you disagree with using life events in ads was because it's "shitty"...

TuftyMarmoset · 14/11/2021 20:19

I’m pretty sure you can get a covid pass without being vaccinated, like by demonstrating that you’ve previously had it or have antibodies? Which makes the outcry even more ridiculous

AlwaysLatte · 14/11/2021 20:24

Great ad. Whether it will make the anti vaxxers see sense I don't know, but it's worth a try!

kowari · 14/11/2021 20:31

I don't see what that part of the ad has to do with Tesco or why it's in there.

BonesInTheOcean · 14/11/2021 20:35

Despite the make-believe British public being overjoyed on screen, it was a different story offline as dozens ofanti-vaxxerstook to Twitter to launch a #BoycottTesco campaign in response to the commercial.

Great, so if you go to tesco, you'll know most of the other shoppers are not anti vax!

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 14/11/2021 21:03

You said shitty!

Thats bad language

NFLBingo · 14/11/2021 21:28

Very true, I imagine it’ll be mandatory and written into his contract now given how many homes he visits. Grin

NFLBingo · 14/11/2021 21:28

In response to @GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 14/11/2021 21:34

More anti vax nonsense

ronfa · 14/11/2021 21:36

is it Santa showing his phone?

trancepants · 14/11/2021 21:36

@HikingforScenery

What’s the point of having the covid pass and Santa of all people requiring it? I didn’t realise he went through customs on his sleigh.

The advert is all quite meh to me

Because kids ask about that kind of thing. It's how their minds work. Last year my dad dressed up as Santa and the first thing my DS did after giving him a big hug was ask if he'd been vaccinated so it was safe for him that he did it.
ronfa · 14/11/2021 21:37

it's funny & current

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 14/11/2021 21:37

i liked it-

yikerspipers · 14/11/2021 21:40

Well done Tesco.

ronfa · 14/11/2021 21:40

Covid passports are a thing, it’s just the reality for visiting many places now and in the near future, so why wouldn’t they include it?

Exactly!! are we pretending that someone who travels as much as Santa doesn't require a vaccine passport for some countries?
