Is it really that bad - Tesco Advert

Isthatthebestyoucando · 14/11/2021 18:20

People on Twitter are calling for a boycott of Tesco because of this ad

Apparently it's a political message of medical apartheid.

AIBU to think it's one small scene in an advert referencing last years lack of Christmas? FWIW I'm not crazy about Tesco in general and I don't think people should be coerced into medical treatments they are unhappy to take..... but seriously is this advert worth a boycott?

Tesco should remember that they are a shop and ditch the politics ffs. I'm all for vaccines but I dont think this is appropriate at all.

Arrowheart · 14/11/2021 18:44

I love it! Especially the bit on the plane!

DoctorSnortles · 14/11/2021 18:46

Love it.

The anti-vaxxers love it to. Gives them something else to froth about. They love that.

Bagadverts · 14/11/2021 18:47

Its just a bit of fun m. Would probably never have seen the ad it if they hadn’t raised as an issue so just more publicity for Tesco. I’m more not less likely to go if anti vaxxers boycott, in any case there is only a tiny one near me.

JunoMcDuff · 14/11/2021 18:47

I think it's brilliant and really reflects the sentiment of many!

NFLBingo · 14/11/2021 18:47

Wow, I wish I had the time to be so worked up over something so small!
Covid passports are a thing, it’s just the reality for visiting many places now and in the near future, so why wouldn’t they include it?
Also, who’s business is it if Santa wants to be double vaxxed? 😂

GreyhoundG1rl · 14/11/2021 18:48

Tell that to Lush first 😂
ShakespearesSisters · 14/11/2021 18:48

Its just been on, 1st time I've seen it. Thought it was funny as did my husband.

Isthatthebestyoucando · 14/11/2021 18:49

I thought it was just a little nod to the times we're living in, it's hard to make a Christmas advert current, they churn out the same looking things every year.

Yeah it's a good follow on from last year's which was brilliant.
GreyhoundG1rl · 14/11/2021 18:50

What was last years?

PingedPotato · 14/11/2021 18:50

Yeah it's not saying they approve or disapprove it's just a fact of life.
loudbatperson · 14/11/2021 18:51

I don't think it is a political statement at all. Many countries need a Covid pass (from vaccines or tests etc....) to enter. It's just a joke surrounding that, and celebrating Father Christmas still being able to come.

With the hyperbole around the advert you would think that Tesco had shown people getting preferential treatment in Tesco based on Covid vaccine status.

I think some people are looking for a reason to be outraged.

Landof · 14/11/2021 18:51

I think it's brilliant. The only people I can see having an issue is the anti vaxxers. I hear adverts left right and centre encouraging people to get the vaccine.

PingedPotato · 14/11/2021 18:52

@GreyhoundG1rl

What was last years?
It was the naughty list one with people mentioning all the things they'd done in 2020 "ie. Not donated to captain tom"
GreyhoundG1rl · 14/11/2021 18:53

Ah, yes...

tulips27 · 14/11/2021 18:53

@Tal45

Calling it Medical apartheid is what's offensive, Tesco are not saying you can't go in if you're not vaccinated. I'm guessing no one who's actually lived under apartheid is using that term.
Good point, they should think about Motsi Mabuse from Strictly who actually experienced apartheid.
PupInAPram · 14/11/2021 18:54

It's brilliant. Some folk just go looking for offense to take!

Justme10 · 14/11/2021 18:54

I quite liked it, when I saw it I assumed it was done for kids. Can't see any reason for people to get worked up.

ssd · 14/11/2021 18:55

It's fine

Crunched · 14/11/2021 18:55

I love it ! And controversy (not that I see any) is good for publicity.

EatYourVegetables · 14/11/2021 18:55

It’s great and really fun and positive. (Unlike some other ads this year)

00100001 · 14/11/2021 18:55

@mustlovegin

They probably should have left out the Covid pass bit to avoid controversy, otherwise the ad is fine.

Medical apartheid sounds hyperbolic

There's no controversy... it's just a observation of life today...

Just like the red light green light game... Are we all going to get up in arms because if that reference?

MrsTumbletap · 14/11/2021 18:56

I think it's a really good advert!

The bit with the plane and the red and green lights "Just go!" Made me chuckle!

After last Christmas, it's nice to see it being made light of after how depressing it was.

We are in a better place now, we should be happy about it.

mustlovegin · 14/11/2021 18:56

they are a shop and ditch the politics ffs

All businesses should stay well away from politics, yes
