Joining mi6- this is crazy right?

So posting for traffic.

Pre warned this is crazy but I promise it’s true.

I’d posted under another nickname of brother who has a history of lying and I’m not talking little white lies I’m talking pathological as well as really frankly dangerous behaviour. Stole pension money from elderly grandmother (was her x mas money and he cut it out of her suitcase), stole 10k worth of jewellery, pushed father undergoing chemo over, held knife to mothers throat, not mentioning the amount of times he hit me 6 ways to Sunday. He was never held accountable for anything which is why I think we have this issue today.

But the previous post was an elaborate tale of him joining the navy. He told this to my very sick (and now passed away father), he bought a few Royal Navy T-shirt’s from the highstreet (pretending they were part of his training uniform), army style boots and epaulettes from god knows where to illustrate the scam. No military in the family so all a bit ignorant on this. DF unbeknownst to everyone was suffering and easily confused, he totally fell for it. Brother, mid 30s , was at the time working as a waiter (earning close to min wage, no shaming here just for income purposes) made several elaborate purchases in a year that as a minimum would have cost 50k. Father was wealthy, it is my strong suspicion that the navy was used to gain money from a v sick and vulnerable person. Reason for believing it’s a scam there was no commendation ceremony, he alleged you get epaulettes as a gesture of good will from the navy and said he was so skilled they fast tracked his application and shortened basic training and was offered an incredibly senior commanding position with 0 experience.

This was 4 months ago, brother is still working as a waiter but now is telling other vulnerable relatives (widowed mum and GM) that he’s been enrolled in mi6 as an intelligence operative as they work under authority of the navy (of which is apparently as the rank of lieutenant commander), there are implications he’ll need money to move to london to do this. He’s screenshotted me his application, which just confirms an application submitted, not a post being offered and he said he can’t disclose more for ‘issues of national security’ and that image was from 12 weeks ago, but I looked online and it says it’s a 9 months hiring process, obviously because caliber of the person needs to be seriously vetted.

Can anyone confirm that his story is bollox? He can’t be joining mi6? He also said they have a join whenever start date policy. I’m concerned this is yet another scam and each time he gets away with it and leaves me to pick up the pieces of humiliated and upset relatives who despite past knowledge fall for it every single time.

The steer from family will be to carry on as if it’s true but I’m sure this has to be a crime? And I can’t be complicit in that.

I also have real concerns about how dangerous he could be if successful in application.

OP posts:
userisi · 12/11/2021 18:10

even if it’s not been reported or logged anywhere formally

Absolutely, if you do think he's applied then there is no harm at all sending them an email (I'm sure there will be a public facing email for recruitment) but I wouldn't worry either way, you need a lot of references to go through high level clearance vetting, he would absolutely be sniffed out without a doubt.

IntemperateSpirits · 12/11/2021 18:14

Did he, aye?

If I were you I would also apply and screenshot it and just sent it back to him. Tell him he made it sound so exciting. What a twat. Does someone other than him have financial PoA for your grandparents and mother?

Helpstopthepain · 12/11/2021 18:16

I work in mental health. Being part of the secret service or knowing the royal family are common beliefs.

Has he seen the new James Bond? It’s really good.

You need to distance yourself from them all. It’s so unhealthy.

foxgoosefinch · 12/11/2021 18:16

Yeah, this tale is categorically bollocks. No doubt about it, OP.

MI6 (or SIS, to give them a more accurate name) do not recruit via the navy, and someone with your brother's background wouldn't have the first chance of being employed by them.

I've been a developed vetting reference for SIS several times and have some experience of how the process actually works. Your brother is very definitely telling massive porkies.

Helpstopthepain · 12/11/2021 18:18

I think it’s really a consequence of having no consequences at all and being told how intelligent he is

He really isn’t very intelligent.

supremelybaffled · 12/11/2021 18:23

I have no qualifications in this area, but he sounds like a psychopath to me. If he has indeed applied to Mi6 - they would take a brief look, realise he's a nut job and immediately sling his application in the bin.

To be honest, I'd be worried if I were you, and I would go to the police again and tell them everything. They have more of an idea of coercive control and financial abuse within families nowadays, and perhaps you might have a better chance of stopping him. He could potentially be very dangerous and you can't tackle him yourself.

JudgeJ · 12/11/2021 18:24

@Rannva

He sounds very ill. Stay away from him.
Stay away from him and try to protect your family and their funds from him, he's clearly after their money.

Take him to see it, it might put him off!
nathanandfanny · 12/11/2021 18:29

OP: I think you realise by now that this is 100 per cent rubbish. I think you need to consider now how you are going to prove this to your vulnerable relatives in a way that won’t let him talk them round. It wouldn’t matter but it sounds as if you believe he is Going to financially exploit them. You could get an email confirmation from the navy that he’s not in the navy and they do not fast react. Two or three fact lines might nip it in the bud?

etulosba · 12/11/2021 18:30

Lieutenant commander?

It’s bollocks.

JudgeJ · 12/11/2021 18:30

@Suzi888

Your not supposed to blab you work for those agencies either, so cover blown! What a complete tool. They seek employees out themselves so I’ve heard, rather than post a job ad online.
You can apply online here! www.sis.gov.uk/explore-careers.html
MereDintofPandiculation · 12/11/2021 18:30

If nothing else they will check his employment history. What's on his application form is unlikely to bear much resemblance to his actual previous employment and hey will rumble him.

OP, I understand your worries - my extremely elderly father comes up with all sorts of paranoid fantasies, and I find myself thinking "but what if it's true?" It makes you doubt your own powers of logic. But seriously, the country has nothing to fear from him. But he could be dangerous to you. So keep away from him at the very least.

HaileyBailey · 12/11/2021 18:33

The whole thing is 100% bullocks

Lovemusic33 · 12/11/2021 18:34

@vodkaredbullgirl

is off to apply for MI6
Me too 🤣
DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 12/11/2021 18:40

Security services access all your online activity. They track down your close relatives and contacts. They're quite serious about what they do. So I heard.

iklboo · 12/11/2021 18:41

Didn't the MIs advertise on MN once?

jetadore · 12/11/2021 18:43

Bollocks. 100%. Person known to telling tall tales, stealing, stealing, outright lying, coming out with yet another incredible story? The application process will be designed to weed out exactly this type of person, the vetting is extremely thorough. The fact he’s even telling you about applying is proof it’s bullshit because you’re not supposed to tell anyone. If he had what it takes to join mi6 surely he’d be doing something better than waiting already? Where’s he living while ‘in the navy’? In barracks? Walter Mitty eat your heart out.

FatherBuzzCagney · 12/11/2021 18:44

Maybe he's applied for a job in the MI6 canteen.

TillyTopper · 12/11/2021 18:44

I'd just leave it - MI6 aren't stupid and if he has applied they will have seen his sort before!

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 12/11/2021 18:51

My bil had a delusional gf, not only was she being fast tracked to Oxford , she had been head hunted by mi6. Amazing as she left school at 16 with 4 o levels and was working at the local Spar.

Yarboosucks · 12/11/2021 18:51

It is a lie. Even if he has applied, the application process states that you must not tell anyone that you have applied. On that basis and to give you the reassurance that I think you do actually need, you should contact their recruitment service. You may get a reply that is useful to show to your elderly relatives so that they do not get scammed.

Jubaju · 12/11/2021 18:54

He wouldn’t pass the drugs test let alone a dv interview 🤣

mantlepiece · 12/11/2021 18:54

Well, if your family are hiding their cards and valuables they are certainly aware he is not to be trusted.
It is a shame he lied to your father, but nothing you can do about that.

I second the PP, start treating him as the joke he is by referring to him as Billy Liar from now on.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 12/11/2021 18:57

@HirplesWithHaggis

He may well have submitted an application online. I could do that too, so can anyone else. There is absolutely no way they would ever employ him.

Or me, tbf.

I feel like I just want to go and put an application in, you know for the laugh 🙈

I would make a shit intelligence officer, unless someone explicitly tells me not to say something - I blab.

rooarsome · 12/11/2021 19:02

Sounds like he's been reading too much Ian Fleming
It's a load of BS and it looks like he isn't even trying to make it seem realistic (bar sending in the application)
