Joining mi6- this is crazy right?

So posting for traffic.

Pre warned this is crazy but I promise it’s true.

I’d posted under another nickname of brother who has a history of lying and I’m not talking little white lies I’m talking pathological as well as really frankly dangerous behaviour. Stole pension money from elderly grandmother (was her x mas money and he cut it out of her suitcase), stole 10k worth of jewellery, pushed father undergoing chemo over, held knife to mothers throat, not mentioning the amount of times he hit me 6 ways to Sunday. He was never held accountable for anything which is why I think we have this issue today.

But the previous post was an elaborate tale of him joining the navy. He told this to my very sick (and now passed away father), he bought a few Royal Navy T-shirt’s from the highstreet (pretending they were part of his training uniform), army style boots and epaulettes from god knows where to illustrate the scam. No military in the family so all a bit ignorant on this. DF unbeknownst to everyone was suffering and easily confused, he totally fell for it. Brother, mid 30s , was at the time working as a waiter (earning close to min wage, no shaming here just for income purposes) made several elaborate purchases in a year that as a minimum would have cost 50k. Father was wealthy, it is my strong suspicion that the navy was used to gain money from a v sick and vulnerable person. Reason for believing it’s a scam there was no commendation ceremony, he alleged you get epaulettes as a gesture of good will from the navy and said he was so skilled they fast tracked his application and shortened basic training and was offered an incredibly senior commanding position with 0 experience.

This was 4 months ago, brother is still working as a waiter but now is telling other vulnerable relatives (widowed mum and GM) that he’s been enrolled in mi6 as an intelligence operative as they work under authority of the navy (of which is apparently as the rank of lieutenant commander), there are implications he’ll need money to move to london to do this. He’s screenshotted me his application, which just confirms an application submitted, not a post being offered and he said he can’t disclose more for ‘issues of national security’ and that image was from 12 weeks ago, but I looked online and it says it’s a 9 months hiring process, obviously because caliber of the person needs to be seriously vetted.

Can anyone confirm that his story is bollox? He can’t be joining mi6? He also said they have a join whenever start date policy. I’m concerned this is yet another scam and each time he gets away with it and leaves me to pick up the pieces of humiliated and upset relatives who despite past knowledge fall for it every single time.

The steer from family will be to carry on as if it’s true but I’m sure this has to be a crime? And I can’t be complicit in that.

I also have real concerns about how dangerous he could be if successful in application.

I have SC clearance for my job and that took 3 months (which was considered pretty quick - I've lived a blameless life), MI6 would surely be DV or eDV which takes months and months.

Waahingwashingwashing · 12/11/2021 17:36

Mi6 recruitment won’t care

He’s not even on their radar I’d guarantee it and he’d be weeded out early if he was. You don’t need to worry about that.

violetanemone · 12/11/2021 17:37

@Namechangetimes100

I think he has anti social personality disorder and narcissistic personality disorder and it is genuinely frightening if he got to a position with any sort of power or authority or frankly weapon.

I’m questioning whether I should contact mi6 recruitment and actually warn them but I don’t know if I’d look like a loser jealous relative looking to sabotage

I really wouldn't worry.

MI6 won't hire anyone without thoroughly vetting them. If there is anything to know, they will know.

Also, he's obviously lying.

CherryRave · 12/11/2021 17:39

I'm so sorry to say this but my best friend's sister got a job at MI6 and the entire immediate family were interviewed so I can safely say this is a scam :(

Chikapu · 12/11/2021 17:40

He's talking absolute bollocks, fast-tracked to a senior commanding position because he's quite good at carrying plates?
For starters, I imagine that the Navy have recruiting personnel that can smell bullshit from a mile away.

user14943608381 · 12/11/2021 17:40

Even if it’s never been reported to there technically is no audit trail @violetanemone.

Might sound extra but he’s gone for me several times as adults, once 6 months pregnant, and his last message before I blocked him was ‘you better watch out’

Pumpkinsonparade · 12/11/2021 17:40

Oh op please tell him they have contacted you to verify him!! Ask him what he wants you to say in his reference!

That’s really reassuring! Thank you!

He is still threatening you, I would be more inclined to warn the police and mental health social services about him rather than the security services.

nathanandfanny · 12/11/2021 17:43

People who apply for the intelligence services are vetted and checked. He’s going to Fail on every check. Also of course he isn’t applying - you can’t tell people!!!!! I’ve known my fair number of people in the intelligence services in other countries and not one single one of them told me themselves.

Fallagain · 12/11/2021 17:48

Of course its bollocks. I would contact adult safeguarding team and share your concerns about your relative.

user14943608381 · 12/11/2021 17:50

He’s definitely submitted an application that much I know for sure @nathanandfanny as he’s screenshotted the app reference with his name, application number and position applied for. But anyone can apply for any publicly listed job at the end of the day, doesn’t mean a whole lot.

You'll probably have a long wait in a queue if you do; losers claim they're part of MI6 all the time and I'm sure they're used to it

Personally I'd focus on warning anyone you know who he's targeting

hellcatspangle · 12/11/2021 17:50

Of course he's not joining MI6. I have a BIL who's also full of shit, he got injured once falling over drunk, and told everyone he'd fallen out of a helicopter on a secret mission 😂

Stokey · 12/11/2021 17:50

Developed Vetting would take at least 6 months. There's no way a pathological liar would get through. They look through every part of your life including bank statements, school, family, past relationships.

AnneElliott · 12/11/2021 17:51

Complete and utter bollocks. MI6 comes under the jurisdiction of the foreign and commonwealth office - nothing to do with the Navy!

And even if he has applied, no way will he pass vetting since they speak to close family and friends and you would be required to be honest about his previous history......

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 12/11/2021 17:53

It is definitely not true OP

Please don’t call MI6 to warn them Grin

fluffyblanketfeatherpillow · 12/11/2021 17:53

He's lying.

To get to the rank of lieutenant commander in the navy takes a long time. Even if you go in as an officer first. If he was a lieutenant commander you would definitely know about this as he would have already been at sea, either on a submarine or a surface ship. Yes, you CAN get shore based staff, however these have all served aboard first. Also, when you go into the Navy from basic training you go into a branch of the Navy (e.g. weapons, fixing things...) And your branch badge would be displayed on your uniform- you don't just wear a plain navy shirt with just your name on it and epaulettes.

And developed vetting which you would need for security services is a pain in the neck. It's definitely not an instantaneous thing and you would definitely know about it if he was being dv'ed.

Suzi888 · 12/11/2021 17:54

Your not supposed to blab you work for those agencies either, so cover blown! What a complete tool.
They seek employees out themselves so I’ve heard, rather than post a job ad online.

userisi · 12/11/2021 17:56

It's not developed vetting because security services have their own vetting procedures, but yes it'll be a lengthy process and don't worry about forewarning them OP because if he ever got into the unlikely position of getting a job this behaviour would absolutely be picked up in the vetting process.

1forAll74 · 12/11/2021 18:00

Very serious mental problems it seems, has he had some serious traumas in his life before. which can cause mind altering things to happen later, like blocking out the reality of life.

@userisi even if it’s not been reported or logged anywhere formally?

@1forAll74 honestly no and to the best of my knowledge he has no mental health conditions although based on my limited knowledge I’d say he has Aspd and npd. I think it’s really a consequence of having no consequences at all and being told how intelligent he is

Probably load of bollocks.
No "probably" about it.

Definitely a load of bollocks.

pantsandpringles · 12/11/2021 18:09

He's lying.

I had a friend years ago who joined similar and the vetting process involved them talking to everyone close to that person, relatives, friends etc to find out about their character. He was hired in the end but haven't heard from him since due to natural drifting apart. He was actually in the navy beforehand and the training he went through just for that was intense. But it wasn't joined in any way, it was just his preferred route. And no way could your brother be telling the truth. The position he's claiming to have requires active service.

And when you get approached by the men in the black, it's intense. The vetting process takes your previous life completely apart to check for any discrepancies. You'd know if he had actually got the role.
