How often do you deep clean your house all the way through?

Firstly, AIBU to be totally fed up of cleaning?!
My house is not a tip (I don't think!) but I have just spent 2 whole days cleaning it from top to bottom and it's still not finished. Twice a year I usually deep clean all the way through- things such as touch up paint, clean rugs/sofa/carpet with a professional carpet cleaner, scrub the whites around the windows, pull beds/furniture out and clean behind. I also spent at least an hour cleaning every day without the bigger jobs such as changing beds, cleaning blinds/windows etc. It honestly feels like a complete never ending task. Me and DH have been cleaning for the last two days in preparation for Christmas (last bit of annual leave before we put our tree up). I really wish I had a cleaner.

I try to spread the deep cleaning to a room a monthish then everything stays clean. I started doing the orginised mum method then tweeked it because I was over cleaning.

I spend about 30-40 mins a day cleaning not including folding washing.

I don't understand people who don't clean under inside and behind things it seems gross and lazy to me to live in filth.

meow1989 · 09/11/2021 20:02

I clean on a Tuesday when i have a day off to myself. I use the sweepy app which I like as you can add custom tasks with different times (ie: mop every 1 week; clean windows every 3 months etc). That way you spread out the bigger tasks rather than doing all in one go.

On a daily basis I tidy up and wipe down the kitchen counters.

Theyellowflamingo · 09/11/2021 20:02

I think a lot depends on what you mean by cleaning. If you include food prep I probably do an hour a day of housework, but I don’t regard doing dishes/dishwasher, changing beds, laundry etc as cleaning.

ivykaty44 · 09/11/2021 20:04

cleaning an hour per day

omg

no

I have other things to do like work, annual leave is not for cleaning, id rather go for a run

Badbadbunny · 09/11/2021 20:05

We never "deep" clean as there's no need. I spend one morning per week doing the vacuuming, dusting, and wiping down the kitchen/bathroom surfaces. During that morning, I'll do "extra" in one room only, such as moving the bed to vacuum/dust behind or moving the sofa/dining room table to vacuum.

We maybe use a carpet shampoo cleaner once every few years on any room with a much older carpet, but we're a shoe free home so carpets stay pretty clean with just vacuuming weekly as there's no mud etc being trailed in.

Other than that, big furniture only gets moved when we redecorate a room, that would usually coincide with a new carpet, maybe once every 10 years or so.

SisterBeaverhausen · 09/11/2021 20:06

I do set rooms on set days. So Tuesdays bathrooms get done, Wednesday and Sundays the kitchen gets cleaned and all floors hoovered/mopped, Thursdays the living room and hallway are cleaned, Mondays I do the bedrooms.

Never do a "deep clean" as it's kept on top of.

Peanutbuttercupisyum · 09/11/2021 20:06

Never
Cleaner every 2 weeks does the bathrooms, dusts every surface and hoovers and mops all over.

I hoover downstairs every few days, obviously do a once over on the kitchen surfaces once a day and do a quick (5 minute) wipe down of bathrooms on the week they don’t come.

That’s all I’ve ever done! 10 mins cleaning a day tbh!

dontstopmenoooooow · 09/11/2021 20:06

Never.

I have ADHD and can't do 'big projects' of mundane repetition like this.

I empty the dishwasher at 7AM while I wait for the kettle to boil. I hoover (cordless hoover so can do the whole house in ten minutes) when I get home from work. I load the dishwasher and clean the kitchen after dinner. Do all that daily.

Have pets who need cleaning out ever 2 days.

Weekly we employ a cleaner who cleans bathrooms, dusts and gives the kitchen a deeper clean.

I don't care what's underneath my sofa or on top of my doors. Doesn't affect me in the slightest.

ivykaty44 · 09/11/2021 20:08

and don't get me started on ms hinch and her chemically induced house where you breath in once and breath out pink stuff. its not healthy to live in the fumes

added to which someone else hack, event terribly wrong recently and caused a fire

gingerroot · 09/11/2021 20:08

My cleaner does this every week.

All the skirting, ceilings, windows, and then all normal cleaning. We try not to have a lot of stuff so it’s very easy to clean behind everything we own.

Flobbertybillop · 09/11/2021 20:08

This isn’t a thing, it can’t be (*can’t be arsed)

entropynow · 09/11/2021 20:08

@ghejxodn

Argh maybe I'm the crazy one! But does it not get really dirty if you don't clean? An hour a day isn't much when you think of dishwasher/bathroom/making beds/sweeping/mopping etc?
You're not crazy but no, it doesn't get really dirty. Dusty, maybe, but I've got better things to do than dust. DH does the hoovering, it's one of his jobs.

Oh yeah and the daily laundry churn of doom. One load of washing a day goes on the lakeland heated airer and gets put away when one of us can be arsed.
TillyTopper · 09/11/2021 20:13

I have a cleaner twice a week, but I will do a deep clean (curtains, blind cleaning, dry cleaning cushions, touching up paint etc) doing a room at a time once a month.

emmetgirl · 09/11/2021 20:13

Never.

ghejxodn · 09/11/2021 20:13

@dontstopmenoooooow I hate laundry! It honestly is the worst job in the house I think! I think the problem is although I do an hour a day it's not actually that much in the sense it is just stemming the tide. I therefore don't have time to do any of the other jobs which need a 'deep clean.' Me and DH work long hours, by the time I cook, sort DC out for bed and clean up it's pretty much time for me to go to bed! DH isn't lazy, but works 65 hours a week including commuting time so doesn't have time or energy to do much in the week. Think I might look into a cleaner

So do I but I guess it depends on your circumstances......I love a nice clean house ....IMO there’s nothing nicer.....but then my kids are grown and I only work part time and we have downsized from a large 4 bed to a smaller cottage ....so it’s easy for me .....I DO remember those fraught evenings when we would get home with 3 tired kids from after school club having both done a full days work and the house would be a shit tip from Monday to Saturday ( I only cleaned on a Sunday) ...deep cleaning was a distant dream ( cos I do love to clean) ....so I sympathise with many on this thread
TuftyMarmoset · 09/11/2021 20:22

I agree that life is too short! An hour a day cleaning, 6 hours at a weekend as per PP, who wants to spend their precious time doing that? I do max 20 minutes a day, usually less...
And my windows haven't been cleaned once during the two years we've lived here!

StarryNightSparkles · 09/11/2021 20:24

I just started doing TOMM a few weeks ago and it's totally changed my life for the better regarding housework/laundry. I would definitely recommend.

whyarentiskinnyet · 09/11/2021 20:25

I've never done this.
