How often do you deep clean your house all the way through?

Firstly, AIBU to be totally fed up of cleaning?!
My house is not a tip (I don't think!) but I have just spent 2 whole days cleaning it from top to bottom and it's still not finished. Twice a year I usually deep clean all the way through- things such as touch up paint, clean rugs/sofa/carpet with a professional carpet cleaner, scrub the whites around the windows, pull beds/furniture out and clean behind. I also spent at least an hour cleaning every day without the bigger jobs such as changing beds, cleaning blinds/windows etc. It honestly feels like a complete never ending task. Me and DH have been cleaning for the last two days in preparation for Christmas (last bit of annual leave before we put our tree up). I really wish I had a cleaner.

@Chargreen

There’s nothing nicer than relaxing in a lovely clean house. I’m not anal about it at all but couldn’t settle down for an evening in a shit tip.
I can think of lots much nicer things 😁
DaisyandSimeon · 09/11/2021 20:26

Its called spring cleaning and I usually do it in the spring. I used to do one in the run up to christmas, but no cannot be bothered. Probably won't bother in the spring either. I did do a big lockdown spring clean

icedcoffees · 09/11/2021 20:28

Never.

But I do clean for probably 30-40 minutes a day to keep on top of things. I don't feel the need to do regular deep cleans on top of the daily cleans.

Mum2jenny · 09/11/2021 20:28

Never ever!

FuzzyPenguin · 09/11/2021 20:31

Wednesday is my big clean day, 5 hours on whatever needs doing. Otherwise it’s about a couple of hours a day maintaining, Sundays I have off apart from hoovering. I have a very hairy cat which sheds loads so I have to keep on top.

ToykotoLosAngeles · 09/11/2021 20:32

It's never all done at once. Every 6 weeks or so I do a deep clean and organise of DS's room and playroom as he has normally grown out of something but otherwise most jobs like bathroom/changing bedding/hoovering are every 3 weeks. We both work and DS is in bed upstairs in the evenings.

What do you spend all that time doing? Confused
TheFormerMrsPugwash · 09/11/2021 20:33

OP, I have not RTFT as I can't face reading anything written by anyone who cleans their skirting boards.

I deep clean the house: never

I also have no idea what all this "mopping" is that people go on about on here. I have 300 year old timber floors, and I'm not sure they would like mops.

I clean intermittently if I am expecting visitors I would say I would clean the kitchen island more often, but it's covered with so much stuff that there's not much visible.

Skyla2005 · 09/11/2021 20:34

Wouldn't that take about 3 days. That's a waste of your life just keep on top of it As you go along life's too short to spend it cleaning

mewkins · 09/11/2021 20:34

@Tailendofsummer

When I sell the house.
😁 Literally only once all the furniture has been moved out.
ToykotoLosAngeles · 09/11/2021 20:36

@TuftyMarmoset I could easily fill 5 hours if I were to wash sofa covers/cushions, clean 3 toilets and 3 sinks, de-limescale the shower and bath screen, steam mop 3 rooms of lino, empty the toaster crumbs, and clean the windows.... but I don't. Grin

fleurbelle · 09/11/2021 20:37

I just clean up as I go along?
Never a need for a " deep clean"
Bathroom and Kitchen wiped down daily... 10 mins
All pots washed and put away...10 mins after every meal.
Dust, hoover and mop every other day... 30 mins
Spend most my time on bloody laundry
Bloody hate laundry and I tumble dry most things.
It's the the folding and putting away I hate.
Two adultish kids, a dog and two girlfriends that spend half the week here.
I work full time.
Whilst dinner is cooking I clean kitchen unit doors, polish a window, wipe the skirting.
Multitask if you can

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/11/2021 20:38

Probably 3 times a year, very dusty old house.

LSLLM · 09/11/2021 20:39

I pick a room every two months or something

RubyFakeLips · 09/11/2021 20:40

I usually do deep clean once a month of one room. I couldn’t stand to do it all in one go and wouldn’t include painting/decorating, as monitor that separately.

Each week, I will also focus on one room more than others.

1 hour cleaning day if including, beds, dishwasher, cleaning up after meals and bathroom bits isn’t that much but probably depends on your house size, and who lives there.

But, I like my house clean and get really benefit from doing so.

BiLuminous · 09/11/2021 20:42

Look up The Organised Mum Method (which was designed originally for herself because she was cleaning too much).

usernamenumber636274 · 09/11/2021 20:43

@Crumblinginside

I don't do it all in one go

I do one job a day most days (eg clean oven)
For example today I cleared two main kitchen cupboards (takes me 20 mins)

Tomorrow I will sort the airing cupboard and then I will sort the windows another day this week. That's plenty this week on top of normal daily stuff.

Never in one go ! Stuff like paint jobs - every two years our house is very clean.

Very similar to what I do!
nopuppiesallowed · 09/11/2021 20:43

@Bagelsandbrie and anyone else who finds moving furniture difficult. I discovered furniture sliders on Amazon. They are amazing. We have the world's heaviest leather sofas but slipping the sliders under the feet means I can give them a nudge and they skate across the carpet....Also bought a set for my very elderly friend and now she can clean under her sofas, too.

ghejxodn · 09/11/2021 20:45

@usernamenumber636274 I would really love to do one bigger job a day but I honestly don't have the time or energy after or before work. By the time I start cleaning it's usually around 8ish in the evening and takes me about an hour which I don't see how I can cut down. But maybe I need to?! My house doesn't even feel that clean to be honest!

Inmypjsagain · 09/11/2021 20:46

We clean as we go and do a big clean weekly, we do the window frames and stuff then too as it’s much easier to keep on top of if you give everything a quick clean up weekly. Everyday we’ll clean up after ourselves but it won’t take it long.

I do wash the sofa covers monthly, we get a carpet cleaning company twice a year and I will wash our pillows twice a year too. Twice a year we’ll take everything out of the kitchen cupboards, wardrobes, storage cupboards to sort through and clean the shelves- I say we, I usually end up doing it because I really enjoy it!

You’re not unreasonable to hate cleaning, it is never-ending!

speakout · 09/11/2021 20:47

Never.

Cleaning, including "deep" cleaning gets done on a continuous basis.
Sometimes a whole room, sometimes I will do all the floors, or wash all the woodwork in several rooms in one go.
If a room is decorated then it gets the deepest cleaning of all.
But no, I never deep clean my whole house at one time- would take me two weeks to deep clean the whole house.

user1497787065 · 09/11/2021 20:48

I really don't like the responses to this type of
post.

I'm particular in the house and probably spend eight to ten hours a week cleaning and ironing.

The responses are always: life's too short, why would you etc.

Having a clean house and ironed clothes is
Important to me. I understand that isn't the
case for everyone.

I don't ever criticise those who spend hours watching TV, going out drinking and wasting hours nursing hangovers. I would rather clean and iron.

KrispyKale · 09/11/2021 20:48

Op asked.

Wooky8 · 09/11/2021 20:49

Feeling so relieved reading all these responses! I'd love to keep a cleaner house but young children under 3 means time is short. I do random bits like cleaning skirting boards if I notice them dirty, but don't even manage a full weekly clean (which used to be weekly, now more like monthly!).

OP, your house must be so lovely and pristine! Good for you! :)

Do your kids help out with chores OP or are they still too little....I remember when my 3 were small they only had to walk in the house and it looked like a tornado had hit.....it won’t always be like this....I was the same and now my house is spotless every night when I go to bed ( I am a bit of a clean freak though)
