How often do you deep clean your house all the way through?

Firstly, AIBU to be totally fed up of cleaning?!
My house is not a tip (I don't think!) but I have just spent 2 whole days cleaning it from top to bottom and it's still not finished. Twice a year I usually deep clean all the way through- things such as touch up paint, clean rugs/sofa/carpet with a professional carpet cleaner, scrub the whites around the windows, pull beds/furniture out and clean behind. I also spent at least an hour cleaning every day without the bigger jobs such as changing beds, cleaning blinds/windows etc. It honestly feels like a complete never ending task. Me and DH have been cleaning for the last two days in preparation for Christmas (last bit of annual leave before we put our tree up). I really wish I had a cleaner.

I did during lockdown & it took about a week. It stayed clean for a few months when we couldn't have visitors!!

Scarby9 · 09/11/2021 19:00

Three times in the 30 years I have lived here.
Once when I moved in.
Next when there was major building work downstairs - so much dust!
Last (15 years ago) when we moved upstairs walls - an old house. Amazing amounts of dust!
Deep cleaning for the sake of it? Not on my agenda.

I try and do bits and bobs throughout the year all year long. I do the daily stuff then a couple times i week I try and do something extra (doesn't always happen). Even just organising a cupboard or hoovering under the sofa. Or hoovering my lampshades.

I don't have time to spring clean my house all in one go. I find it easier to regularly clean rather than having to clean for hours on to get it done. Keeping on top of it all is the key for me!

Tal45 · 09/11/2021 19:03

I barely hoover unless I have to because someone's coming round.

KurtWilde · 09/11/2021 19:05

Never done a full deep clean all in one go. I do what you do just over the course of a year or so. The living and kitchen gets a quick clean daily because I have kids and 3 large dogs, but it only gets a good deep clean when I'm about to put my Christmas decs up. Which is imminent now I've thought about it!

Pinkdelight3 · 09/11/2021 19:05

Never. Life's too short.

megletthesecond · 09/11/2021 19:09

Never.
I haven't even given my kitchen sink a decent clean for weeks. Just about to attempt it now or at least clear the large washing up.

saddowizca · 09/11/2021 19:13

Me neither - it's not a massive thing for me or DH. I hoover, mop, dust and polish ornaments once a week, and DH does bathroom kitchen each week but that's it. Mow grass every other week too.
You have made me think though, I might have a spurge over the weekend, the autumn low sun does show up a lot of household flaws!

Rhubarbcrumblerules · 09/11/2021 19:13

Never deep clean. Maybe deep tidy and shallow clean if we have visitors, and then only the rooms they might go in (and don't open the understands cupboard or risk.your life in an avalanche). Pretty medium to low standards

rrhuth · 09/11/2021 19:17

I have never deep cleaned the entire house. It is not an operating theatre.

AutumnAnn · 09/11/2021 19:18

Twice a year when I prepare the house for winter and summer, it probably takes me a good few days

iwishiwasafish · 09/11/2021 19:18

@ghejxodn

Argh maybe I'm the crazy one! But does it not get really dirty if you don't clean? An hour a day isn't much when you think of dishwasher/bathroom/making beds/sweeping/mopping etc?
I make the bed when I get out of it. I fill the dishwasher as I go, and empty it when it finishes the cycle. I guess if I left everything to do at the same time of day then it might take a half hour per day, but it’s easier to do it as I go.
Kitkat151 · 09/11/2021 19:19

I deep clean one room a week....it doesn’t take ages because it done very 2 months....l actually like cleaning and get a kick out of a spotlessly clean room....but my kids are all grown up and I only work part time... I don’t mind mess....if any of my 3 grandchildren are here they can make as much mess as they like ...then I blitz 😁.... I could never have a cleaner....I love doing my own cleaning

Chasingsquirrels · 09/11/2021 19:19

Also have never done this.

Pottedpalm · 09/11/2021 19:20

When we move out.

EishetChayil · 09/11/2021 19:20

Once a year, before Passover.

Chargreen · 09/11/2021 19:21

We do a deep clean before we have visitors to stay (so not at all during Covid) and I do a bit every day and once a month a few hours straight. I wouldn’t like my mother to inspect my skirting boards right now but the house is in a good state overall.

Why don’t you get a cleaner, OP? Even if you pay one well, they’re not prohibitively expensive.

BackBackBack · 09/11/2021 19:22

Probably works out to every six months - getting under the sofas, behind the beds, cleaning the walls and so on.

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/11/2021 19:22

Do you have a massive house? What is it that takes An hour to clean a day?! How big are these floors that need constant mopping?!?

Give us a diagram and a list! I am sure people will be able to help you get that down in no time -

thelegohooverer · 09/11/2021 19:22

Never.

I’m not sure why I’d want to.

DaphneeBridgerton · 09/11/2021 19:22

Errrrr never ever ever in a million years even if I had all the time in the universe

diamondpony80 · 09/11/2021 19:23

We’re deep cleaning because we plan on moving soon, and honestly a lot of the jobs we’re doing are being done for the first time! I do a fairly big clean before Christmas alright but things like cleaning upvc around the windows etc I’ve never done until now. I’m realising now they should’ve been done before, but it’s a thankless, time consuming job that seems mostly like a waste of time.

StarfishDish · 09/11/2021 19:23

Never! We have a dog and a baby... we don't have time Grin

Chunkymenrock · 09/11/2021 19:24

Never. I clean weekly to a perfectly adequate standard.

KrispyKale · 09/11/2021 19:25

When I move in, when I move out.
Other than that it's a rolling programme (with some undisturbed corners!)
Because cleaning is never done.
