How often do you deep clean your house all the way through?

Firstly, AIBU to be totally fed up of cleaning?!
My house is not a tip (I don't think!) but I have just spent 2 whole days cleaning it from top to bottom and it's still not finished. Twice a year I usually deep clean all the way through- things such as touch up paint, clean rugs/sofa/carpet with a professional carpet cleaner, scrub the whites around the windows, pull beds/furniture out and clean behind. I also spent at least an hour cleaning every day without the bigger jobs such as changing beds, cleaning blinds/windows etc. It honestly feels like a complete never ending task. Me and DH have been cleaning for the last two days in preparation for Christmas (last bit of annual leave before we put our tree up). I really wish I had a cleaner.

I've lived here for 25 years and never have.

Scarby9 · 09/11/2021 19:44

@PlanDeRaccordement
You clean your windows daily?!?!
This is clearly not the thread for me...

giggly · 09/11/2021 19:44

@ghejxodn

Argh maybe I'm the crazy one! But does it not get really dirty if you don't clean? An hour a day isn't much when you think of dishwasher/bathroom/making beds/sweeping/mopping etc?
I don’t have a spare hour a day to clean. Maybe 30 minutes once a week.
TheNinny · 09/11/2021 19:44

dh cleans kitchen every night and hoovers 1-2 times per week as needed. I do the shower once a week, toilet as need and do kitchen/bathroom floors theoretically every week but in reality 2 weeks/1month. Same with dusting. The guest room gets cleaned as and when needed. Upstairs bedrooms gets vacuumed when DH does it and I only dust them when it’s visibily bad. I will do more once out the toddler years…I hope

Umpapa · 09/11/2021 19:44

I don't do it all in one go, I just do things when it is needed. Like, if I look out of the window and notice it looks grimy round the frame I will wipe it clean (with a babywipe!) Or if I notice there is dust under the bed I will vacuum it (or will on my next day off work), I probably clean for about an hour 3 days a week then give the living room and living room a sweep/kitchen worktops/load and unload dishwasher every day.
I am at home usually 1 day a week atm when the kids are at school so I tend to get back from school and do a couple of hours cleaning first thing. And that is enough!
I think my house is about average cleaning wise. It will never be perfect as I am the only person who cleans it, plus we have a dog and 2 cats!

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 09/11/2021 19:45

Never!
I’m an “as and when” cleaner…. based on what needs doing and how much time I have. I never do the whole place in one big clean and I definitely don’t do an hour a day.

TheNinny · 09/11/2021 19:45

I do absolute max 2h blitz on weekend and quick bathroom tidy weekend, but it’s probably not even 2h. I have a small house house though

LimitIsUp · 09/11/2021 19:46

I don't. Because life is too short

TheNinny · 09/11/2021 19:46

*tidy midweek

Onatree · 09/11/2021 19:49

We tend to not use annual leave for such things.

We do not deep clean.

Our house is home to two FT workers, a 6 year old, a nearly 2 year old and a dog - and is cleaned once a week for two hours.

It’s a minimalist home, no clutter, oodles of open space and we are proud of it.

AnnieSnap · 09/11/2021 19:49

If I’m selling a house. Otherwise, never!

DrCoconut · 09/11/2021 19:50

An hour a day doesn't seem a lot to me? I probably do more if you average it out and my house is far from a show home. Just keeping on top of things probably takes me that - washing up, cleaning surfaces, cleaning bathroom, cleaning floors, hoovering, laundry, changing beds etc all take time. And I have 3 DC and no partner.

DramaLlllama · 09/11/2021 19:51

Twice a year deep clean here (inside every cupboard, wardrobe. Every nook and cranny cleaned etc) Which takes about two weeks to complete! I love having a clean house though and always do it before christmas!

honeyfox · 09/11/2021 19:53

Never deep clean, although it's a new house. Our house is presentable and clean about 10 minutes before overnight guests arrive every couple of months. We do the necessary bits every weekend and a little every evening. My mother was always cleaning and died young, I just think life is too short for it.

Gwenhwyfar · 09/11/2021 19:54

"I make the bed when I get out of it. "

I don't even understand how making the bed is a thing if use a duvet. You just put the duvet on the bed. It's not like the time of multiple sheets and blankets.

dotsandco · 09/11/2021 19:54

I used to live in military quarters, so every time I marched out of a property it was cleaned to within a millimetre of its life!!! 🤣😱🤦‍♀️

Nowadays, back on civvie street, I'm much more relaxed and live like a slattern 🤣

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 09/11/2021 19:56

There are so many better things to do in life than cleaning!

MovinOnUp · 09/11/2021 19:57

An hour a day is nothing really, Wish I could get mine done in an hour, Just totted up what gets dark be daily and it's over an hour.

Northernsoullover · 09/11/2021 19:58

Never. I tend to clean in bits. I did do under my bed in lockdown but I have been here 4 years.

Notdoingthis · 09/11/2021 19:58

I clean a lot. I can't relax if the house feels dirty. Every day jobs, like the dishwasher and clothes washing, take time. Then on my days off, so about 3 x week I hoover. I change beds weekly. I mop once a week. Dust every so often.
I have never had a rota as I hate the idea of waiting for a day to do it. I clean as I go along, whenever it looks needed. So I would guess an hour a day, more on my days off.

CommanderBurnham · 09/11/2021 19:59

I get cleaners in once a month to deep clean. Then I keep on top of it.

Bellyups · 09/11/2021 20:00

When I move in. When I sell it.

Chargreen · 09/11/2021 20:00

There’s nothing nicer than relaxing in a lovely clean house. I’m not anal about it at all but couldn’t settle down for an evening in a shit tip.

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 09/11/2021 20:01

Never. I have more interesting ways to spend my time. I clean as little as is necessary to maintain a clean, tidy, pleasant home.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 09/11/2021 20:02

You and I have very different definitions of a deep clean op!!!

(Yours is much more thorough before you start worrying!)
