Just seen the footage of a woman attacking a horse after a "drag hunt"
She is a primary school teacher and a member of the pony club.
Aibu to think she should lose her job over this?

As PPs have said animal cruelty links to violence and cruelty to humans. How badly does she behave when no one is around? Really horrible and no, there’s no way she should be allowed to teach children again. I wouldn’t want to sit and chat with her at parents’ evening.

MissPeregrine · 09/11/2021 17:46

I’ve not been able to watch the video as it would upset me too much and stay in my mind for too long.

Is there an update on the horse? Is it still in her ‘care?

Upsets me further to read pp stating that this is the norm in some circles! Sad

You don’t gain respect from an animal by being cruel.

Wagsandclaws · 09/11/2021 17:46

I've got three horses and I've never nor ever would raise a hand to them.

I used to live in the next village to The school she teaches at and it's very horsey indeed, driving my kids to school to Oakham we would go through this village every day and always came across people on horseback or leading them in that high street.

I also used to ride at Somerby riding school too and I quickly learnt you can't say anything against hunting at all around there. ( not a fan myself even though I love horses ) again that's not a popular opinion though.

I went back to riding in my early 40's and have had horses of my own ( that I keep at home ) for the last 5 years. There's a reason I don't do livery yards ...

She probably won't lose her job and the Cottesmore hunt will wait for this to die down and go back to doing what it's always done.

My 8 yo ds's cob mare can be a little monkey when she feels like it, no one would dream of raising a hand to her she's a sentient gorgeous animal that we adore and feel lucky to share our lives with.

I'm afraid this sort of behaviour is all too common in the equestrian world, there are always videos turning up of people whacking their horse because it's 'misbehaving' I guarantee she was hitting that pony because it wasn't doing what she wanted it to. Awful, awful behaviour.

KittenCatcher · 09/11/2021 17:49

Serendipity, you're right, the horse has no choice either.

RunningFromInsanity · 09/11/2021 17:49

Consequences for bad choices.

Enjoy watching an animal flee in terror and get ripped apart = flee in terror and watch your life get ripped apart

The recent downfall of hunt members is something I watch with glee.

LittleDandelionClock · 09/11/2021 17:51

@KittenCatcher

It's reported she has been suspended and gone into hiding because she is scared, if she has one decent bone in her body she will resign immediately and face the consequences.

Good. Where did you see this report though?

Viviennemary · 09/11/2021 17:51

She should lose her job and get a prison sentence.

EmeraldShamrock · 09/11/2021 17:51

She should be sacked.
If she was a carer she wouldn't be allowed around vulnerable people, even if she is questioned in relation to violence it'll go on her police clearance report.

KittytheHare · 09/11/2021 17:52

Moral turpitude can be grounds for dismissal in certain jobs, particularly education.

Playingoutinthedark · 09/11/2021 17:52

@Berkeys

She really should! Violent people shouldn’t be around children or animals. Angry
Oh bless you.

You'd be horrified if you knew what goes on in teachers private lives.

Clymene · 09/11/2021 17:52

I hope her life is a fucking misery. She's psycho scum

Playingoutinthedark · 09/11/2021 17:52

@EmeraldShamrock

Wrong!
Thataintright · 09/11/2021 17:55

user367778853. I'm outraged about that too, trust me..

KittenCatcher · 09/11/2021 17:58

It's in our favourite tabloid

EmeraldShamrock · 09/11/2021 17:59

Sorry I meant cautioned not questioned.
Surely a teacher can have any violent crime on their records.
Aren't Teachers subject to checks too?
I assumed professionals who care for DC had their background checked after Holly and Jessica's tragic end.

EmeraldShamrock · 09/11/2021 17:59

*Can’t

EyesAsGreenAsAFreshPickledToad · 09/11/2021 17:59

*Oh bless you.

What? All teachers engage in violent pastimes in their free time?

TravellingWanabee · 09/11/2021 18:00

@SirGawain

It's a dreadful thing to do and of course she should feel the weight of the law but it hardly warrants losing her job
Usually I would agree with you - if she was an accountant or painter and decorator where she was not caring for vulnerable people, I think she should face prosecution but not automatically lose her job (unless as a result of the prosecution).

But as somebody who is in a position of care towards those more vulnerable than she is (and I would say the same if she were a nurse, or care home worker, or vet) then it makes me far more uneasy, as that was a blatant loss of temper. Someone who can flip like that shouldn't be in a position of care in my opinion.

Kylereese · 09/11/2021 18:00

I agree with @Bagelsandbrie I wouldn’t feel comfortable with someone teaching my child who loses control like that.

LakieLady · 09/11/2021 18:02

@FangsForTheMemory

I'm not clear about the link between being a primary school teacher and animal cruelty that you're making.
If someone had a conviction for animal cruelty, and it showed up on their DBS check, would it prevent them from being appointed as a teacher?

If the answer is yes, and if she does get convicted for animal cruelty, then I think she should lose her job.

I'm far from convinced she'll get convicted though.

Mamanyt · 09/11/2021 18:03

@LadyLothbrook

The way she bitch slaps the horse is out of uncontrollable temper, you can see it. She's livid and the horse barely did anything wrong, I would not want my child to be cared for by a person like that. What if a child irritates her and she doesn't physically harm them but does something else sinister? No thanks!..
Yes, that. And she comes out of that trailer screaming, you can see it in her face. Those who abuse an animal that way will abuse a child if they can get away with it. She does not have the temperament to handle animals or children, and I have to worry for her own children.
LeicesterIntheMorning · 09/11/2021 18:03

She should lose her job
Get a prison sentence
Plus a fine
And ban from owning animals, ever

Evil evil person. What a sickening act to commit against an animal.

Didn't some policeman lose his job over donating 10p at a charity cake sale for a pack of jaffa cakes instead of a few pounds?????

RosieLemonade · 09/11/2021 18:06

This is from the Teacher's Standards. Code of Conduct for all teachers.

Didn't some policeman lose his job over donating 10p at a charity cake sale for a pack of jaffa cakes instead of a few pounds?????

I think it was his subsequent lying that was the cause.

PWYP76 · 09/11/2021 18:09

Hmm, so, you're all tucking into your steak while, simultaneously, being 'outraged' at someone caught being cruel to an animal..

While she's a monster, some of you get other monsters to do your work for you, so that you can have your steak on a plate!

And you can argue until the cows (or horses) come home. And you'll start getting angry and denying and minimising and attacking, but you still know.

It's embarrassing.
