Just seen the footage of a woman attacking a horse after a "drag hunt"
She is a primary school teacher and a member of the pony club.
Aibu to think she should lose her job over this?

Megan, you are full of shit. Animals are ripped apart and torn to pieces in hunting. You are being ridiculous.

Megan2018 · 11/11/2021 13:24
@Megan2018
Stop down playing fox hunting with your bullshit! There’s enough evidence out there that shows this isn’t true!
Also a terrier killing a rat is different from a blood hound, so your video is irrelevant.
Bloodhounds don’t kill anything at all. A bloodhound chases a human or two, usually on a Sunday but also midweek, and usually from the rugby club using no artificial scent. When they find the runners at the end they lick them. It’s lovely. Bloodhounds have nothing to do with fox hunting which became trail hunting. Following the bloodhounds is the scariest thing I’ve ever done, fast and furious and not much of a rest between lines.

Foxhounds are used for trail hunting and traditionally hunted foxes. Different breed. Fox hunting is Saturdays and weekdays. Much gentler on the whole.

Unfortunately the dickhead sabs around here can’t tell the difference either…..

BertramLacey · 11/11/2021 13:28

There is nothing barbaric about trail hunting. Nothing.

If they stuck to the law, maybe not. But what I find really puzzling is how often, where I live, trails seem to be laid across and sometimes along massive 60mph A roads. I mean I don't know about you, but if I were laying a trail for a group of riders to follow I'd only cross A roads at particular points and only if I really had to.

I also know plenty of people who are quite pragmatic about the killing aspect of hunting but who really bloody hate hunt followers and the chaos they cause. If I know where local hunts are meeting I'll contact friends with horses in the area so they know to keep an eye out, because hunts sometimes go across land without permission, whether or not there's livestock in them. And again, if I were laying a trail, I wouldn't do that.

If you want to meet up, go on pleasure rides. If you want to jump, do some cross country. If you want it to be a bit more exciting do a team chase. If you fancy a lot more excitement and a few broken bones, go point to pointing. But trail hunting is just so close to actual hunting that it really can be very hard to tell the difference.

I do wonder how many people ripping into this teacher for animal cruelty quite happily defended their absolute 'right' to set off fireworks a couple of weeks ago regardless of if they're near livestock or horses..........
So, so outraged by this teachers behaviour yet quite happy to set off fireworks and defend doing it that cause hours of fear to horses, and foxes for that matter.

How do you know anyone on this thread set fireworks off? I didn’t and didn’t go to a display, that’s a bit judgemental on your behalf, many people want to see fireworks banned for these reasons. Also fireworks are quite different to someone who has inflicted physical abuse on an animal.
ChocoholicWineLover · 11/11/2021 14:10

@Megan2018

Well I’m glad those ‘dickheads’ exist.
Much better than being a cunt who chases and allows their dogs to rip a fox apart.

Shitzngiggles · 11/11/2021 14:48

What is the point of this? Are you trying to silence people on this abuse?

What is wrong with people that they are effectively posting saying if you use fireworks or aren’t a vegan then you cannot comment, why are they trying to silence people on this abuse? It’s shocking.

Clearly these ludicrous posts are not going to turn people vegan or stop them using fireworks occasionally, so the only upshot they can be aiming for is to silence people and let abuse like this continue. To silence people.

Anyone who remotely cares about animals would welcome people standing up against what this woman did. And not say well the overwhelming majority of the population can’t comment, anyone who has ever used a firework or isn’t vegan. Which is the vast majority of the population can’t comment.

And personally no, we don’t use fireworks and have never done so, and I also don’t eat anything from battery hens. I do eat meat. I guess that means that me and every other omnivore has to shut it?

julieca · 11/11/2021 15:40

Yes some on this thread don't want us to talk about this type of animal abuse. If you want to talk about animal abuse by poor people that is fine.
Anyone with horses in the countryside should know that if you have a load of horses and dogs going through a field of sheep the chances are some will abort their lambs and you may have a sheep die of a heart attack. This is why farmers are allowed to shoot dogs worrying sheep. They are not allowed to shoot hunts people though.

mbosnz · 11/11/2021 15:41

Well I'm not going to shut it, just because someone else feels morally superior and entitled to say who can or cannot be said to be sufficiently worthy to comment on any or all issues to do with animals. As my kids say, 'that sounds to me like a 'them' problem'. . . Grin

mbosnz · 11/11/2021 15:42

I did not set off any fireworks last week, nor do I live near any livestock.
julieca · 11/11/2021 16:05

I don't set off fireworks at or near fields of sheep.

LakieLady · 11/11/2021 16:11

We’re getting the terrier man in soon to deal with some rats, I’d sooner do that than use poison or traps, I don’t see foxes very differently really

The law takes a different view though. Rats are vermin and if you don't control them the council have the power to come and do it for you and charge you for it.

Foxes have a number of legal protections and must be killed humanely.

Bluntness100 · 11/11/2021 16:13

@julieca

The thing is, you’re perfectly entitled to do so and also to take issue with a woman punching and kicking a horse.

No one should be listening to these people trying to silence others.

We all have a voice. We are entitled to use it. No one has the right to cancel us.

julieca · 11/11/2021 16:25

I know Bluntness. They anger me as they routinely state so many lies about what they do.

No you're not, it's illegal to set off fireworks near livestock.

No one should be listening to these people trying to silence others.

Exactly, so why try and silence someone for pointing out that a great many people defend their right to fireworks based on tradition and fun that frighten and cause injury to the very animals they claim to care so much about? Page after page last week defending that, and moreover I didn't actually accuse anyone specifically, I said I wondered how many speaking out against this woman's actions defend their right to set off fireworks that are well publicised to cause fear and suffering in animals. Glad a few have answered and say they also disagree with it, even if actually their intention was to silence me in the process 🤷

We all have a voice. We are entitled to use it. No one has the right to cancel us.

Yes, except if you don't agree with me, then I have to shut up, especially if I'm pointing out hypocrisy that you don't like.

What this woman did was cruel, there's no denying that, it also draws her character into question, as well as her horsemanship because it also served no purpose other than to vent her frustration, you can't 'discipline' a horse by setting about it with blows after the fact, so that argument is bollocks as well.

Ddot · 11/11/2021 16:42

Cats play with vermin till its exhausted so it cannot turn and bite back, which would cause infection. And I'm sticking to that theory cos I loves my cat 🤣

UtterHypocrisyNow · 11/11/2021 16:45

Seems I've touched a nerve 🤣

I haven't told anyone to shut it or that they can't comment on it, or have an opinion, because I'm not the thread police, it seems like those positions are well and truly already filled by those accusing others of trying to cancel and shut them down while doing the same themselves..........

DroopyClematis · 11/11/2021 16:48

Blimey! This thread has moved on!

I've never understood why people, in this day and age , think that killing and endangering living creatures creatures could ever be construed as a sport.

Even trail/drag hunting is inhumane.

If you like horse riding then just ride a horse.
If you love a gallop, then go for a gallop.

These pack dogs are often poorly housed and treated, starved a bit so that they're ravenous , probably ( I've heard it said but I'm only alleging here.)

Some of the comments that I recall from the 70s when people really started to think about Fox hunting were :

These townspeople and do-gooders just don't understand the country ways .

It's our way of life.

Foxes are vermin.

And the ubiquitous " it's the thrill of the chase."

Judging by that hag who kicked and slapped that horse, I expect those sentiments are still alive and kicking in certain privileged pockets of our society.
I suspect that her behaviour is not uncommon.

( Now donning my own hard hat on from comments by those equine 'lovers.')

mbosnz · 11/11/2021 16:49

It was Ddot on page 27 that stated that she thought that one should have to be vegetarian to have the right to object to cruelty to animals.

Yes I noticed @mbosnz

I do love a horsey/hunting thread. Makes me chuckle at the indignant posts.

But yeah, of course , only vegans/vegetarians can have a voice when it comes to animal cruelty 🙄

Does anyone know if the horse-slapping hag is a vegan?

What a ridiculous and pointless comparison. It's like saying I can't criticise Boris for needless use of a private jet because I once flew on a plane. Bonkers.
mbosnz · 11/11/2021 16:55

I imagine the horse botherer is currently over identifying with the prey attempting to keep ahead of the baying hounds at the moment - could be quite educational for her! Grin
