Would you let a 12 year old have their nose pierced?

Just that really.
We’re being harassed and being subjected to awful tantrums and rudeness because DP has said no, it’s not happening.

Not a chance!

Mrsblobbyspants · 07/11/2021 18:32

I've said yes to my 12 year old BUT school say pupils must take all piercings out for PE. Unfortunately, it will take about 12 weeks to heal properly so she will have to wait until she leaves school. She was fine about waiting.

@Rachie1973 he’s very involved. He speaks to both girls multiple times a day, they’re really close.
We see them regularly… officially EOW but they’re at our house multiple times a week, they both have keys and come and go as the please.

Dd had been asking for a while, we said yes when she'd finished her GCSEs

ThePlantsitter · 07/11/2021 18:39

No. I had mine for a while when 18 and it was snotsville. Takes more looking after than ears. I don't think 12 old enough to make the decision to alter their body either.

eightlivesdown · 07/11/2021 18:41

No.

muddyford · 07/11/2021 18:42

Absolutely not. The fact that they are throwing tantrums shows they aren't old enough.

Gingernaut · 07/11/2021 18:43

Nope.

18 at the earliest.

EmeraldShamrock · 07/11/2021 18:45

No at 14 I'd consider it.
I'd my ears piercing at 7 probably 20 having my nose piercing.
I still have the nose scar.

Sunshinealligator · 07/11/2021 18:47

Absolutely not ! I was 11 when I had my nose pierced, I was not old enough to take care of it responsibly and I remember the judgement my parents got, and having a teen myself now, I would feel it was an irresponsible choice to let her pierce her nose.

Cyderdelic · 07/11/2021 18:57

My DD had hers done at 13 which is the youngest a reputable piercer will do it. Ive got 3 in one side and my septum done, so had my other nostril done at the same time she did. I was doing my own piercings at that age, so would much rather she has hers done properly.

etulosba · 07/11/2021 19:03

No.

92 is too young, unless you are a bull.

Coldilox · 07/11/2021 19:11

Any piercer that would pierce a 12 year old’s nose, I wouldn’t touch with a barge pole

NoDecentHandlesLeft · 07/11/2021 19:11

In principle yes, but if her father had very strong feelings I would say no.

Heartofglass12345 · 07/11/2021 19:13

I'm curious as to why some people think it's not ok?

TattySlippers · 07/11/2021 19:15

No

StoneofDestiny · 07/11/2021 19:17

No!

Someone needs to tell the parents to get a grip on this child

Elphame · 07/11/2021 19:19

Yes I'd allow it but I doubt very much you'd find a reputable piercer willing to do it at 12.

StormzyinaTCup · 07/11/2021 19:20

My local tattoo studio won’t do any piercings on any person under 16 without a parent being present to give permission. I don’t know what other tattoo studios rules are but I would imagine that would be fairly standard at any decent one.

Anonymous48 · 07/11/2021 19:21

Not until 18 for me, when they are old enough not to need parental consent.

Sidehustle99 · 07/11/2021 19:22

No, 17/18 for nose or anywhere other than ears or me.

xprincessxjanetx · 07/11/2021 19:23

No, I wouldn't permit this until 16.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 07/11/2021 19:29

My DP is a piercer of 30 years standing. He will not pierce anyone under the age of 16 without parental consent, and especially not if there's any suspicion of parental conflict as a report to the council is potentially detrimental if he does.

Before I was involved with my DP my then early teens DS pierced his own ears at school out of pure peer inspired rebellion as ear piercings werent an issue either with me or his school (nearly 20 years ago, good Lord!!). He then went on to stretch them and we had to get his "blow out" seen to professionally. He went on to badger for various facial piercings, where I drew the line firmly, having seen him rough housing with his mates and imagining the gory fallout.

As to all the other issues - whole other can of worms. Like others have said, blame good piercing practice for it not being possible. And if she tries it herself or gets it done on the sky, point out the potential for scarring and infection. In my books, too young, too immature, end of story.

As a side note, my DO pierces older teens every summer holidays with parental consent while explaining that the piercing won't be properly healed when school starts - he the spendx most of the week before school starts and into September either removing the piercing or swelling for plastic retainers as schools are throwing hissy fits.....

nousernamehere01 · 07/11/2021 19:29

No way, just like tattoos I'd personally say wait until you're 18 at least. That way she can decide if she really wants it forever as well.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 07/11/2021 19:32

Swapping not swelling - bloody tablet autocorrect......
