Has anyone else been watching the snag tights/applicant for social media position debacle? I have no involvement in this but have been watching from the sidelines in utter bafflement and now I don’t know if I’m missing something or if this person is truly reaching in order to take offence

So snag tights were recruiting. This person applied, was asked to do a video interview, said yes and was then not interviewed and when snag came back they said all positions were filled, they’d missed her reply and were but would be back in touch when recruiting again. This person believes it was because snag had looked at their social media and decided they no longer wanted to interview them.

This has erupted on both sides with this person posting on multiple social media sites and snag owner Brie seeming to apologise over and over. Admit a mistake was made and that steps were being put in place to resolve moving forward.

That’s it in a tiny nutshell but there’s so much more now including accusations of doxxing.

Is anyone else been reading? AIBU to think the applicant has taken it too far now and needs to move on?

She appears to be going out of her way to advertise to other potential future employers how unsuitable she would be as an employee. Madness.

I don't buy from snag tights anyway because I hate their marketing. I don't want my FB feed to be littered with pictures of men in tights, photographed in a way that the tights themselves aren't even that visible - it's are more about promoting snag's brand image and politics than about the actual product they're selling. All image and little substance.

@mydogisthebest

Can someone recommend good tights NOT from Snag please. No way do I want to buy from a company that use a man with a full beard to model their tights
Why would this bother you? Confused
CSJobseeker · 07/11/2021 15:01

@BurntTheFuckOut

Yes, you’re also not allowed to complain that their new sizing means that anyone who’s a small 12 or less can no longer wear their items as they are far too fucking big.
Is this true? In that case I can definitely 100% strike them off my list of potential places to buy tights.
Morgoth · 07/11/2021 15:08

Oh how I wish I hadn’t looked at her Twitter profile 😖 Even if a potential employer had looked through her social media accounts (which they are entitled to do and would be a sensible idea to do), she would have been deemed not just unsuitable but “will not touch with a ten foot barge pole unsuitable” for pretty much 99.9% of job roles out there within about 3 seconds. Clear cut no. Utterly grim. What’s wrong with (some of) Gen Z?!

She probably doesn’t even care that much about the job but using it as an opportunity for attention to drive traffic to her social media and OnlyFans pages.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 07/11/2021 15:09

Snag should have interviewed her and said 'thanks but no thanks' afterwards. Much easier than walking back an interview offer.

But she needs to get the fuck over it. The drama she's indulging in is next level. And yes, your social media profiles can be a hindrance. Amazing that people can upload masturbation videos and not realise that might not work in their favour career wise...

@SnipSnipMrBurgess

Snag comes up as an advert on my fb/socials every so often and every time I see them, I think they are really hitting every social justice button on their campaigns, plus size, diverse men in make up, non binary people, the whole gamut, and fair play to their brand. They would be the last ones I would ever think would discriminate on any grounds.
Given how inclusive they are, it's interesting that their adverts appear ALL THE TIME in my FB feed, but never ever in my DH's. So they're not actually marketing to men are they? No, they're just including men in the adverts they push at women to get that "inclusivity" box ticked.

My DH and I are in almost all the same groups etc. on FB so the only real difference for them to base that marketing decision on is our sex.

mydogisthebest · 07/11/2021 15:13

I am not the only poster that commented on their marketing and using male models.

I honestly could not care less if men want to wear dresses and tights but when I am looking for some I do not want to see them modelled by a man.

Mind you the female models and their poses are pretty awful.

CSJobseeker · 07/11/2021 15:14

And when the advert is coming via FB sponsored posts, the company is actually able to do the sensible thing and direct female pictures at women and male pictures at men. But they choose not to.

Seriously? What's wrong with a man wearing tights?! He's breaking down gender stereotypes, i thought Mumsnet would be all over that!

Ooh, brave of you! I admit, I find their determined and over the top inclusivity to be in yer face, but I wore tights (Snags) for the first time in about 2 years yesterday and omg, they didn’t move. Defo worth it.
CSJobseeker · 07/11/2021 15:22

Agree. Maybe I'm just to old to 'get' it, but the poses on the female models really put me off. Far too much focus on sexy poses. I mean, the models are in their bras for quite a lot of them. Why?

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 07/11/2021 15:22

I'm not sure if I've ever seen a Snag ad but their word of mouth reviews are pretty...evangelical, so I'd be tempted to try them based on that alone.

Manzi tights from Amazon are better quality imo.

You're not sounding any less ghastly with this post. My late husband would have absolutely loved snag tights; he worked in security and was often out in the cold for hours. He was 6 foot 3 and about 18 stone so even the XL women's tights didn't fit him. He was always looking for tights to fit under the rest of his clothes to keep himself warm. If you are put off the product by their advertising then that's fair enough, don't buy them. They are a relatively new to mainstream company, so your request for places to buy tights other than from snag is odd as one would assume you've had no trouble buying tights for the rest of your life not from snag and managed perfectly well with them. You're just trying to make a point that you find their marketing, for using 'different' models, off-putting. M&S, or literally everywhere else will have something more 'you'. As you know damn well.
EishetChayil · 07/11/2021 15:26

Snag tights seems to just be drag queens now. Their social media is beyond ridiculous.

Yep! You've said in so few words exactly what it is!
LemonSqueezy0 · 07/11/2021 15:32

I saw the post from snag about it, and from that was able to find out who, what, why and when because of the persons own Instagram posts about it. The claims about doxxing are far fetched, imo, and they have definitely stretched the truth for "clout" and content.
I was surprised to see how many people posted about never buying snag tights again, based off one video from someone with an axe to grind. I definitely think hitting brands where it hurts (in the pockets) is a useful tool, but this seemed like such reactionary and OTT response to this witch hunt. The person was begging for shares, asking others to tag people, to get bigger content creators on board and the movement appeared to be gathering a fair amount of support... and not many seemed to question the motives or validity of the claims. Many of which were instantly disproved by snag, by the way.
I think it's clear that SNAG are achingly diverse and this is an admin error rather than any kind of malevolent thoughts towards anyone.
That being said, they actually SHOULD check the social media of applicants and models they work with, as this could blow up in their face in so many ways...they've built a good brand, so don't want to run the risk of sacrificing it for lack of due diligence.

JustFrustrated · 07/11/2021 15:36

@Blondiney

Well how horrible, and also entirely irrelevant

LOL, who the fuck are you???

Someone that doesn't see the need to make nasty, irrelevant comments on an entirely normal name. That has zero influence on this thread.

I think this is really on the money tbh, 'oh no look they have discriminated against me because of MY SOCIAL MEDIA GO CHECK IT OUT.......'

I know a few men who wear tights, they are the dogs bollocks for staying warm on building sites in the winter apparently 🤷‍♀️

i came across it after a plus size tiktok i follow linked to it all.

Honestly, its a mess. I think the original applicant over-reacted when she didn't have the interview.. yes it was rude of Snag not to tell them that they were not going to do the interview.. but the rants on their insta stories are just.. waaaaaaay over the top/over-reacting.

The issue with Brie doxxing them isn't great either, but i also don't think using their RL name in one post warrented any of this either.

I've tried to be sympathetic, but i think the racism call is really reaching/clutching at straws.

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/11/2021 15:49

Omg. This woman is crackers. Lucky escape from Snag!

There's nowt wrong with men wearing tights.

There's everything wrong with a company using pictures of men in tights to show how inclusive they are, and then solely pushing those adverts at women. It's all image over substance.

FB advertising is based on algorithms and the personal data you've entered. So a company will pay FB money to push an advert to "women aged 20-45", for example. Snag tights do not appear in the news feeds of any men I know, but women get them all the time.

If snag tights are so bloody inclusive, why don't they spend their £££ pushing adverts at men too?
