Has anyone else been watching the snag tights/applicant for social media position debacle? I have no involvement in this but have been watching from the sidelines in utter bafflement and now I don’t know if I’m missing something or if this person is truly reaching in order to take offence

So snag tights were recruiting. This person applied, was asked to do a video interview, said yes and was then not interviewed and when snag came back they said all positions were filled, they’d missed her reply and were but would be back in touch when recruiting again. This person believes it was because snag had looked at their social media and decided they no longer wanted to interview them.

This has erupted on both sides with this person posting on multiple social media sites and snag owner Brie seeming to apologise over and over. Admit a mistake was made and that steps were being put in place to resolve moving forward.

That’s it in a tiny nutshell but there’s so much more now including accusations of doxxing.

Is anyone else been reading? AIBU to think the applicant has taken it too far now and needs to move on?

For innocents like myself thinking of having a harmless nose at a stranger's Twitter account, just don't do it, kids. Not this time.
I won't be looking any harder to find both sides of the story. But from what I've seen, I wouldn't be employing this person in a conventional business social media role.

FreeBritnee · 07/11/2021 13:17

Just sounds like the normal sort of batshittery that goes with these brands that strive to be ethical/diverse/ inclusive and all the other buzz words of the moment. Didn’t they have a similar nightmare at that dungeree brand that people go on about on here?

timeisnotaline · 07/11/2021 13:20

Also, I like to think companies should tell the truth about things. But I really hope snag are blatantly lying when they say they didn’t check applicants social media. Isn’t that the critical step in hiring for a social media role? Scan cv, looks ok, quick check of social media - looks ok, let’s give this cv a closer look?

NothingIsWrong · 07/11/2021 13:22

Good god if my employer found a Twitter account like that in my name I'd be bounced so fast my feet wouldn't touch the floor. How is that OK, especially for a SM job?!?

I think the term is "purity spiral"

Though batshittery also describes it perfectly

BonesInTheOcean · 07/11/2021 13:23

@rrockett

Jesus Christ I've just looked at her Twitter.

Happy to masturbate and post pictures of your "dripping" knickers son Twitter for all to see, but furious about your first name being shared in a post.

5 minutes looking at her Twitter and she appears to be an absolute lunatic.

Seriously grim
KeyLimeFly · 07/11/2021 13:27

Being an OF ‘creator’ or whatever they call themselves isn’t a protected characteristic

Yes you would think it would make sense to do a quick social media check of the ones you have picked for interview, even if of course you wouldn’t do the whole 250.

I did wonder if Snag were lying about missing her email because they had looked at her social media but didn’t want to be accused of slut shaming by rejecting her at that point. However in that case it would be safer to interview and then just say ‘you were great but the successful candidates were stronger.’

Echobelly · 07/11/2021 13:28

@CompetitiveMumming - agree, honestly if you have a problem with a nice, progressive company take it up with them privately and check what happened, don't trash them all over social media. Can we try and concentrate on the really evil people?

Obviously issues should be called out, but in private first just in case you're reading things totally wrong. DH once got convinced by the answer to why he didn't get a job that they might have been being antisemitic, though I didn't agree (NB, he's not normally sensitive about it and has never before or since thought any job rejections were about him being Jewish). Eventually he spoke to someone and clarified things and was satisfied it wasn't AS. But he didn't just assume it was and then post it all over social media.

IGoWalkingAfterMidnight · 07/11/2021 13:31

@kwiksavenofrillsusername I feel exactly the same - so where do you buy tights now?!

Yeah the Lucy and Yak thing. Something about the owners talking about size inclusivity when they only go up to size X. Lots of Twitter people threw around the right words such as ‘problematic’ and ‘centering’ and the company was forced to grovel. Truth is, and I say this as a fat person myself, it literally wouldn’t matter what size they went up to. There would still be whining about ‘well why don’t you go up to higher size you fatphobe!’ That’s what happens when you pander to Twitter idiots.
SnipSnipMrBurgess · 07/11/2021 13:33

Snag comes up as an advert on my fb/socials every so often and every time I see them, I think they are really hitting every social justice button on their campaigns, plus size, diverse men in make up, non binary people, the whole gamut, and fair play to their brand. They would be the last ones I would ever think would discriminate on any grounds.

BurntTheFuckOut · 07/11/2021 13:33

I don’t see how someone who posts videos of herself wanking can complain about her first name being “outed”. What a fucking joke.

Lovelyricepudding · 07/11/2021 13:33

@CompetitiveMumming

Snag seem to me to be a nice, small company doing their best to be inclusive- basically on the side of the goodies.

One of the horriblest things about progressive culture is the need to witch hunt groups and people who are doing pretty well but aren't perfect. Why is this person not going after bigger more immoral targets? Why bring down Snag tights when Jacob Rees Mogg still lives and breathes? Or the cricket club that thinks it's OK to racially slur people? There are more important things.

Why bring down Snag tights when Jacob Rees Mogg still lives and breathes? what are you proposing here? I don't like the guy but this is disgusting.
BurntTheFuckOut · 07/11/2021 13:35

L&Y are a joke now too.

On the group recently, someone pitched a fit because someone else described a pair of dungarees as “huge” on them. Obviously this was an attack on her and all the other bigger women in the group, and everyone fucking pandered to this batshit Narc behaviour Hmm Unbelievable.

Soubriquet · 07/11/2021 13:43

Whhhhhhy did I have to search her? Why?!

Why did she have to post her dirty knickers for all to see?!

Oh I'd forgotten about that. And now in the L&Y group it's basically forbidden to mention that anything is too big or small for you Hmm

Christ really wish I’d not looked at that on twitter. 🤮

Bluntness100 · 07/11/2021 13:54

I suspect they would check social media after interview stage when they have narrowed it down and not for all 250 initial applications.

storkstalk · 07/11/2021 13:55

@melissasummerfield

I was reading about this yesterday, the applicant is clearly an attention seeking nutjob!

Claudethecat · 07/11/2021 13:56

Dear god. I would not want to employ her either.

risefromyourgrave · 07/11/2021 13:57

I saw that last night, absolutely bat shit. I have always thought that social media is a bit of a cancer on modern society, but that took the biscuit!

HarrisonStickle · 07/11/2021 13:57

@Georgieporgie29

I have briefly seen this and it look like
  • person applied for job
  • they asked her to email availability for interview
  • she replied
  • they completely missed her email so didn’t interview her
  • they announced the jobs had been filled
  • she got in touch to complain
  • they apologised
  • she went all over Instagram calling them out, saying it was because of something she had posted on her social media
  • they apologised again, saying they hadn’t checked anyone’s social media as had (I think) 250 applicants and didn’t have time, implemented a new way of doing things so it wouldn’t happen again
  • she called them out again on social media and called for the staff member to be sacked
  • they replied on social media and posted screen shots of conversations to prove their side. These screenshots had her name for example Dear Julie
  • she called them out for posting her name all over social media

That’s the gist that I get, although obviously could be completely wrong

I've been following this a bit and I think this pretty much sums up what happened apart from the name thing. From what I can gather they did mention her first name, realised their mistake almost immediately, deleted it, but someone else had started sharing it and it ended up across social media via this person's shares.
mydogisthebest · 07/11/2021 13:59

Can someone recommend good tights NOT from Snag please. No way do I want to buy from a company that use a man with a full beard to model their tights
