Has anyone else been watching the snag tights/applicant for social media position debacle? I have no involvement in this but have been watching from the sidelines in utter bafflement and now I don’t know if I’m missing something or if this person is truly reaching in order to take offence

So snag tights were recruiting. This person applied, was asked to do a video interview, said yes and was then not interviewed and when snag came back they said all positions were filled, they’d missed her reply and were but would be back in touch when recruiting again. This person believes it was because snag had looked at their social media and decided they no longer wanted to interview them.

This has erupted on both sides with this person posting on multiple social media sites and snag owner Brie seeming to apologise over and over. Admit a mistake was made and that steps were being put in place to resolve moving forward.

That’s it in a tiny nutshell but there’s so much more now including accusations of doxxing.

Is anyone else been reading? AIBU to think the applicant has taken it too far now and needs to move on?

I clicked on this thread thinking it was about the crazy tights they sell that are a different colour on each leg

I wasn't expecting to end up looking at a twitter feed that is truly grim 🤮🤢

I suspect they would check social media after interview stage when they have narrowed it down and not for all 250 initial applications.

Except surely it makes sense to do the social media check before interviewing, in fact before sending out the invitations to interview, so you don’t waste half an hour plus interviewing someone who might eliminate themself on the basis of a 5 minute social media trawl?

the argument is illogical anyway - of course employers can and will check our social media if its public . And if you don't want to be judged on it then don't post weird things where they can be seen publicly .

I'll never understand why people don't put full privacy settings on their Facebook page. I do that and make sure nothing I post is offensive. Its idiotic.

I buy Snag tights because they’re a good fit and last for ages. My weight fluctuates and I am currently much bigger than I want to be; I also want to wear tights that don’t roll down my belly or have a crotch near my knees. The people modelling on their website are not representative, I suspect, if many of their customers as it is. I had a look at this woman’s Twitter. Utterly repulsive - since when did these strange people have such influence? Just ignore and they will go away.

I have no problem with a man with a beard wearing and modelling tights. As long as he’s not demanding access to female spaces, sports, awards, all good with me.

Yes, you’re also not allowed to complain that their new sizing means that anyone who’s a small 12 or less can no longer wear their items as they are far too fucking big.

You can't possibly be thinking that because I used the expression "still lives and breathes" I am advocating murdering him? Yes. that's obviously the most likely takeaway.

I don't fully understand/ haven't been following this, but to be honest if you are applying for jobs you should make sure there is nothing about your social media presence that might go against you. It's common sense these days surely.

They also have beardless men modelling their tights. I highly recommend them.

Men have worn tights for centuries (often in snazzy colours and patterns). And it's quite common now in some sports. Not sure when we decided men don't wear tights but if we could change our view on that again then maybe their wouldn't be posts on here from peoole worried about daring to put baby boys in tights or leggings.

The hiring and social media furore however sounds like a hot mess. I am glad I never pursued a career in social media, It's just a minefield these days.

If I really wanted a job and replied to an email asking when I was available, I'd be asking in that email 'please confirm receipt of this email'.
Because emails can often end up in Spam folders.

With most jobs you are not asked when you are available, you are told to when to be there and it's up to you to figure it out.

I was trying to work out what had happened yesterday… I hope companies can be better at ignoring this sort of attention seeking behaviour in the future.
