Has anyone else been watching the snag tights/applicant for social media position debacle? I have no involvement in this but have been watching from the sidelines in utter bafflement and now I don’t know if I’m missing something or if this person is truly reaching in order to take offence

So snag tights were recruiting. This person applied, was asked to do a video interview, said yes and was then not interviewed and when snag came back they said all positions were filled, they’d missed her reply and were but would be back in touch when recruiting again. This person believes it was because snag had looked at their social media and decided they no longer wanted to interview them.

This has erupted on both sides with this person posting on multiple social media sites and snag owner Brie seeming to apologise over and over. Admit a mistake was made and that steps were being put in place to resolve moving forward.

That’s it in a tiny nutshell but there’s so much more now including accusations of doxxing.

Is anyone else been reading? AIBU to think the applicant has taken it too far now and needs to move on?

It’s funny how “gender diverse” advertising only seems to work one way - men being used to promote products which are mainly consumed by women.

I don’t see the likes of Calvin Klein tripping over themselves to use a masculine or butch presenting woman to advertise their men’s briefs, or Lynx using Drag Kings to promote their Christmas Box sets.

@DickMabutt73962 so if you are looking online for a new dress, skirt or underwear you would think it ok to have a man modelling them?

I want to see what a woman looks like in something I might buy, preferably a woman a similar size to me.

Good job Snag don't sell bras or they probably have that beardy guy modelling those

Yes!

Over the summer I saw Lucy and Yak had a nice maxi skirt with a slit up the side on their site which I quite fancied. Being short, I wanted to see what it looked like being worn before I committed to a purchase.

Clicking on the image showed you two models wearing the same item- one, a tall plus size female model who was probably a size 24 plus, and the other- a strapping, very buff 6ft+ male model looking slightly bashful wearing a maxi skirt.

What proportion of potential buyers for that maxi skirt-with-slit-up-the-side were men? Certainly nowhere near 50%, which is the proportion of male:female models L&Y had chosen to model the item. As a result, women who wear high street sizes and were average height had no idea what that skirt would look like on them.

I’m delighted larger ladies are seeing women who look like them in advertising campaigns, and they have a much wider range to chose from, it’s fantastic. But it’s not the same as shoe horning men into a campaign where it makes zero sense when the target market is concerned.

I wouldn't give a shit. As it is the majority of clothing companies have skinny models anyway so what often looks chic on them in their size looks like a sack on me.

Fat women have been under-represented for years but you only care when it's a man.

Ducksareruiningmypatio · 08/11/2021 12:15

I'm a snag enthusiast but the fat beardy man genuinely made me pause and think whether they are the brand for me any more.
The picture isn't marketing it's purely to generate debate, the tights are only shown in the bottom quarter of the picture and most of that is taken up by those bloody pants.
Regarding that "influencer" I think she's shot herself in the foot. Rendered herself even more unemployable with her tantrum.

Honestly she sounds seriously more and more deranged in each video she posts. Snag should have just ignored her it's the only way to deal with someone like this.

SultansOfMing · 08/11/2021 14:31

I love the description of VV as a "content creator"

I mean I guess it's technically true .... but... videos of themselves frenetically wanking on Twitter aren't quite what you'd expect from someone calling themselves a "content creator"

Or am I showing my age?

Councilworker · 08/11/2021 14:47

This is absolutely bonkers. Also VV repeatedly refers to Brie Reading/Reading. Which isn't the owners name! I can only imagine VV would be exceptionally hard work to manage/deal with/employ and at the inevitable stage she was canned this would have started then.

5keletor · 08/11/2021 14:52

@SpookyScarySkeletons

But coming back to the main point of the discussion, that lady appears to be a huge drama queen and I REALLY wish I hadn’t looked at her Twitter feed!

Same 🤮🤮🤮

I looked after seeing these comments... I wish I hadn't. 😟
MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 08/11/2021 14:56

What an entitled dickhead...... I feel embarrassed for her😳

mydogisthebest · 08/11/2021 15:32

@DickMabutt73962 well if you honestly would not care if men were modelling dresses, bras, knickers etc then good for you but I would imagine you are in quite a minority.

I think it's great that larger women are being used as models so those of us who are not Twiggy can get an idea of how the item would look. I certainly can't really tell by looking at a dress on a man how it would look on me.

As far as I know no men's brands are using women to model underpants, trousers, shirts etc.

Fucks sake. This is what happens when everyone and their outlook is 'valid' whether they are suitable for the position or not 😑 Instead of pandering to people like this, I'd have more respect for the company if they came straight out and told her to fuck off, but they're all terrified of being cancelled.
CSJobseeker · 08/11/2021 15:49

I think Snag should just come out and say publicly that someone whose online presence consists of pornographic material isn't what they are looking for in a brand ambassador / community champion. Then just block and delete until this woman goes away.

All sensible people would understand and respect their position, whatever their other views of the brand might be.

100% agree.
PaulRuddsWife · 08/11/2021 16:14

All sensible people would, yes, but the extremely vocal minority of Twitter anime avatars would be screeching to high heaven about discrimination against a 'sex worker'. I feel they aren't going to win, whatever route they go down, and tbf, Snag have invited this sort of thing in with trying to cater to everyone, including half naked bearded men coyly posing in their crackers, and their style of their advertising.

CSJobseeker · 08/11/2021 16:18

Snag's approach to marketing and their cultivation of a cult of obsessive customers has actually made it impossible for them to be honest though (L&Y have the same problem).

Their brand image appears to be based on being accepting of everyone, no matter how out-there or quirky, and their heavily sexualised adverts present a very 'sex-positive', anti 'kink-shaming' image.

That makes it very difficult to be honest and say that a person is not a suitable brand ambassador because their pornographic online presence isn't consistent with your brand. Most brands wouldn't give a shit about being accused of being prudish, or 'kink shaming', but for Snag it goes against the image they have worked so hard to portray.

X posted, but yes, I agree. Their approach to marketing has led them down this road.
cassandre · 08/11/2021 16:24

I like Snag tights a lot, I'm size 14 and they fit me well. The quality is better than more expensive tights I have bought. I also like their use of plus size models. Their advertising vibe seems playful to me, I'm more traditional and middle aged than the models they use, but that doesn't bother me. Nor does their use of a male model wearing tights.

Agreed that the disgruntled Instagrammer seems bonkers.

Yeah but us sensible, level headed people who just want to buy some nice tights aren’t their target customer. Lots of people on this thread who could be potential customers are completely put off by their marketing.

Instead they’ve pandered to the demographic who will literally cancel your brand over any bullshit. They will be apoplectic about this perceived rejection of a ‘sex worker’. From now until the end of time, if anyone suggests Snag Tights as a brand on Facebook or Twitter, someone will absolutely fall over themselves to screech about how they are sex worker exclusionary. Don’t they call them SWERFs? To be honest, hoping this thing blows over is probably their best bet.

If they did that, the people who have already been discreetly binned for reasons that may be related to online or offline presence (I know of one and it's not pretty/is extremely offensive and triggering for many groups in their brand vision) would also be sobbing into their phones for an enhanced profile and dopamine hits from the responses and demanding compensation or, as vv clearly wants, retribution
BurntTheFuckOut · 08/11/2021 16:32

VV has a back up Insta and she’s claiming that Snag got her main account removed…

EishetChayil · 08/11/2021 16:36

Hopefully Snag is learning that if you pander to the demographic that's all about cancelling wrong-think and accepting every --pervert

EishetChayil · 08/11/2021 16:37

Sorry - hit send too soon! If you pander to that crowd, you'll finally fall foul of them.

takingmytimeonmyride · 08/11/2021 16:57

I love my snag tights, they really are the best I've had. I've hated tights for years, but when I'm wearing snag I forget I'm even wearing them.

But their bloody Facebook ads, full of men (she/her thoughHmm) on tights. How many men realistically buy their products? None of the many men I know wear tights. So why are their ads full of men?

I read their post and looked on Instagram. Immediately saw the "queer, non binary, self diagnosed adhd" on VV's bio and thought "huge attention seeker" So no surprise they've gone on a rant. Snag are definitely lucky they didn't hire her.

And yes, as much as you claim to be an ally you will eventually step out of line and be "cancelled"

SpookyScarySkeletons · 08/11/2021 17:28

I love snag tights. Properly love them. But... this is going to end up being a very unpopular opinion...

I really do think that the size and weight of some of the models they use is irresponsible. Women of that size are risking so many health problems and I feel like snag can glamourise that level of obesity and make silt seem "ok" to other women of a similar weight and size.

I totally get that women of that size want to see clothes ok other women of a similar body shape but I sort of feel that snag, by using these ladies on their adverts, are actively pushing away the potential health issues cause by being this size.

And no I don't think they should be using size 6 models, just real life bodies. The women they use are at the top end of the obese spectrum.
