My daughters name.

Hi, i have a 13 month old daughter.
When my wife was pregnant i wanted to call her Olive after my Olive tree, a couple weeks before she was born i thouht Maeve was a nice name also.
When she was born i was torn between the 2 names, the midwife put pressure on us to name the baby so we named her Maeve.
6months on my wife and myself didnt like Maeve because it is one syllable so we changed her name to Mavis Olive.
My wife loves the name Mavis i like it more than Maeve but it doesent really warm to me. I really regret not naming her Olive. I love Mavis she is perfect i guess im worried she might not like her name one day too.

This issue has me really stressed.
Any opinions will be appreciated. Thanks..

I would not worry. Both are perfectly good names and DC can choose to go by any of their names or a nickname.

I used my middle name for a while, there’s no reason your daughter can’t if she wants to when she’s older.

Chill out, your wife carried your daughter for 9 months, gave birth and loves this name. Let her keep it. Relax. It'll grow on you.

Maeve is lovely, mavis olive has a nice ring too. Leave it as it is.

They are all lovely. She can call herself Olive when she is older if she wants.

Not a fan of Mavis. Maeve is lovely BUT she is 13 months, its too late to be worrying now.

This happened to me too.

We hadn't decided and a nurse came round with a red book for dd and asked what the baby was called and I said I hadn't decided and she sighed and told us we really needed to choose something and wrote Baby Surname in the name part and then dh said conversationally '

we had been thinking of Lucy or maybe ..........

and she had another sigh and a an eye roll dramatically crossed out 'Baby' with a massive cross and wrote Lucy.

We were just talking about it this week when I was getting the red book out to find DD's NHS number for the millionth time.

Why would the midwife pressure you? Both my dds were named after we left the hospital. So their bands say baby girl. Or just girl.

When DS was born we had no idea of a name (he was our third so you’d have thought we’d have some idea ). The midwife asked if he had a name, I said we have no idea and that was that! Weird for midwives to be putting pressure on.
Mavis Olive is a perfectly nice name.

Mavis is another name for the song thrush. A happy name.

I would shorten Mavis to Maeve, it's much nicer.

Mavis just reminds me of Coronation Street, but I'm old and some names are making a come back

I like Mavis - much more than either Maeve or Olive. But there’s no need to be stressed over the name. You can change it if you want, but your wife likes it and you’re OK with it too. That’s a good outcome. The midwife shouldn’t have pressurised you, as there’s lots of time before you need to register a birth. I didn’t finally name my child until she was six weeks old.

Mavis is a character in a new show called Only Murders In The Building with Selena Gomez playing a 28 y.o Mavis. It fits her really well and doesn't feel like an old lady name. I also really like Olive

Dd1 was named in the car coming home. My mum actually picked her name.

Dd2 was named about 2 days after she was born and we decided on the name I had wanted forever lol.

Mavis is also the name of the vampire in hotel transylvania.

Mavis is lovely, as is Maeve. Olive I’m not too keen on but these things are subjective.

I am a midwife and we don't need to know a name only the surname. You have up to 6 weeks to register the birth.
