So sick of the constant stupid fireworks

When will they hurry up and ban fireworks for private sale?
Have 2 dogs shivering under the sofa. Huge bangs outside. What if you have a baby in bed?
Anti social behaviour if you ask me.
Take your kids to a proper display.

Also, some twat across the road from me thinks setting off one loud, white firework every 2-3 minutes (sometimes even 5 mins) is fun. For the past half hour.

It's not. It's shit. If you are going to set them off in the garden at least make it worth it!!!!

Pedalpushers · 05/11/2021 19:55

@NotMyCat so sorry to hear that happened to you - wishing you all the best for the rest of the evening, I hope the cat cuddles are some comfort.

JessCorroll · 05/11/2021 19:56

I don't understand how on one hand chasing foxes is cruel and illegal but blasting mortars off, every night, anywhere scaring the shit out of animals is legal. 😡😡😡😡

MyDcAreMarvel · 05/11/2021 19:56

My baby is wrapped up warm in his pram enjoying the fireworks. It’s bonfire night and it’s ok for humans to be the priority rather than animals. There are things you can do to help your dog.

nordica · 05/11/2021 19:56

@Pedalpushers

I've got to wonder how quiet your areas must usually be - I'm in London and can count 15 or so houses setting them off from my window and it's barely registering as background noise.
I'm in London too and had to walk home through them at 8pm last night - it was actually terrifying how loud they were, and there were bits of plastic/metal falling onto the pavements from them around me.

People don't want them banned, just controlled! Private displays only, not being sold to Keith and his mates to let off in their crappy terrace house garden!
DanceAllDay · 05/11/2021 19:57

I love fireworks, not massively a fan of private displays. Unfortunately all council ones near me were cancelled this year do we are watching from the house. No pets and 2 year DS us currently fast asleep.

Arbitan · 05/11/2021 19:57

I’ve got a 1 year old and she slept through the Diwali fireworks last night and so far so good tonight.

Agree they’re annoying though. I’ve had to turn the TV up.

shouldistop · 05/11/2021 19:58

Both of my kids are sleeping (I've put fans in their room to help block out the noise).
My dogs fine too. We played firework noises when he was a puppy which I think helped but could also be down to luck.
I feel for animals who are very scared and restricted sales are probably what will happen in the future,

minou123 · 05/11/2021 19:58

Classic FM are playing a special programme tonight, playing music that has been specifically designed to calm dogs, cats, pets during bonfire night.

I have it on, because the cats are petrified.
It's working a treat, they are really relaxed.

Creepypastard · 05/11/2021 19:58

@ClaudiusTheGod

What if you have a baby in bed?

Babies sleep through this kind of thing.

Could someone tell my 2 & 4 year old Dds that!!??? It's like a war zone here!!
Honeycomb129 · 05/11/2021 19:59

They do need to be ban! My clever neighbours have decided it would be a great idea to have a display in the middle of the road. I have a newborn baby and one of their fireworks has just hit my window.

iloverainydays · 05/11/2021 19:59

I love fireworks - but you can't see any of them, just hear them endlessly! Driving me up the wall too. I'm now just listening to music on headphones instead.

Sympathies to anyone who's struggling this weekend, whether that's a person or a pet Thanks

shouldistop · 05/11/2021 20:00

All the displays round here were cancelled this year so we did enjoy watching other people's fireworks from a nearby hill.

NotMyCat · 05/11/2021 20:02

This is how loud they are currently

gogohm · 05/11/2021 20:03

Dog is shaking in the corner, cat is awol, she's not too bad with fireworks but might be next door

Santastuckincustoms · 05/11/2021 20:04

My baby never sleeps normally but does sleep through fireworks so I'm all for them.

I love fireworks! They are soooo sparkly!

Ghoulette · 05/11/2021 20:04

@Sparklingbrook

It's actually Bonfire Night tonight, the night you would fully expect there to be fireworks so I can't get wound up by them tonight.
Yes, at controlled displays, but there are at least 10 different people on our immediate surrounding estate setting off whatever they like, and they have been for weeks now too. Since September in fact.

And just like last year it won't be just tonight, it will be tomorrow for Daves birthday, Sunday for Allan and Julies anniversary, Monday for Chantelle's babies first fart.... right up until gone New Year's Eve!

Not to mention they idiot students opposite me who thought they were so clever, partying til 1:30 am then setting off the loudest fucking firework in the middle of the road right outside our house on Tuesday night.

hotelharibo · 05/11/2021 20:04

It's not like they are every night.

Yep some idiots will be idiots with them but the same is true about a lot of things.

My DD is terrified of dogs in part due to the totally out of control/no recall ones that seem to be everywhere now and I don't think we should ban dogs

EvenRosesHaveThorns · 05/11/2021 20:05

Hate them, one flashy bang at the cost of killing wildlife, scaring animals and some children/adults, totally unregulated, dangerous, litter everywhere... Really, really hate them.

mydogisthebest · 05/11/2021 20:05

@GlacindaTheTroll

I'm just glad it's on a Friday, with some displays on Saturday.

Instead of dribbled out over several days when it falls mid-week.

I rather like it all though, just don't like the idea of stressed dogs

Well if where you live everyone has their fireworks tonight or tomorrow you are very lucky.

My friends who still live in Essex have had fireworks going off for over a week now. It doesn't seem to matter what night the 5th falls on the idiots just let fireworks off when they feel like it

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 05/11/2021 20:06

Very worried about how my horse will be managing this as well. Very very sad

PinkWaferBiscuit · 05/11/2021 20:07

I love fireworks! They are soooo sparkly!

I don't mind them being sparkly but why can't they just be pretty to look at and not loud. Why do people setting them off need them to sound like they are in a war zone, why can't they just be nice to look at without all the booming?

Ghoulette · 05/11/2021 20:08

It's been every night here all week, and at least a couple of times weekly (weekdays too) since September here.

I wish my neighbours weren't such twats. It's nice to know there are some places out there that are actually sensible enough to keep it to a weekend in November but sadly, in certain types of areas, that isn't the case.

Drivingish · 05/11/2021 20:09

It's idiotic how loud they are, round here it genuinely sounds like the old broadcasts of Beirut - not exaggerating. There's no need for it, fireworks can be made quiet but still be stunning, that would help babies/animals/peace of mind a great deal.
