So sick of the constant stupid fireworks

When will they hurry up and ban fireworks for private sale?
Have 2 dogs shivering under the sofa. Huge bangs outside. What if you have a baby in bed?
Anti social behaviour if you ask me.
Take your kids to a proper display.

We’ve got a dog who hates the fireworks - I’m playing Dog Music on Amazon Music (lots of similar ones elsewhere as well). It’s been playing for two or three hours. She’s fast asleep next to me on the bed. Slept through almost all of it and hasn’t been bothered by much at all. I wasn’t expecting it to work as well as it has… I recommend it (secretly hoping it helps me sleep too!)

DaisyNGO · 05/11/2021 20:26

@Notahandmaid

If you are sick of them, please please drop your MP a quick email asking them to attend this debate on Monday and to support a ban on the sale of fireworks except for licensed displays only:

committees.parliament.uk/committee/326/petitions-committee/news/158508/mps-to-debate-petition-on-fireworks/

I am typing this at an animal sanctuary where volunteers come and sit with the dogs in the evenings for a week either side of 5th November to calm those who are scared by the fireworks. It's fireworks fortnight now not fireworks night.

Ah, great work, good for you.

Sadly I get the same response from my MP every time.

BurntTheFuckOut · 05/11/2021 20:26

I’m Autistic and have CPTSD, I can’t even get my noise blocking headphones because DD1 is using them (DD2 has her own because she’s also ASD). I’ve got white noise on my iPad as high as the volume will go and I’m still shaking/jumping with every bang.

I think this is Day 3 now? A lot of Diwali celebrations in my area too.

I’m going to grab some Diazepam soon.

Tigger85 · 05/11/2021 20:27

I think there are noiseless ones that exist, they should be the only ones the public can buy. It's not bonfire night itself that's the problem more that by allowing the federal public to buy them you get people letting them off continuously from November to December including randomly letting them off at 2 or 3 am. As an emergency services worker I'm also sick of assholes deliberately firing them directly at us.

MrsWidgerysLodger · 05/11/2021 20:27

We have several organised displays near us and people are still setting off absolutely loads near us. There really is no need at all. You can see at least two of the organised displays from our back garden which makes it all even more pointless!

godmum56 · 05/11/2021 20:28

@Ghoulette

How about worrying about our veterans, people with mental health issues, sensory issues, vulnerable adults, elderly with dementia etc rather than pets?

There are far more reasons (reasons that people may better sympathise with) than then pets and babies waking up (and I say that as someone with two terrified cats).

Would certainly have a bigger impact if people made it about people rather than animals because the general public don't care about pets or even livestock in lot of cases.

"people" do. fireworkcampaign.com

there is also a facebook page.

MrsKeats · 05/11/2021 20:28

You get them fired at you?
That's shocking.

OP posts:
Ghoulette · 05/11/2021 20:28
@PinkWaferBiscuit no, it's not a daft comment. If I go outside then it's full on. Here is no different to anywhere else. They're non-stop. I just struggle to believe that dogs and babies are that negatively affected by it if they're kept inside with general household noise going on. Some people will use anything as an excuse to get a bit of fun banned.
A bit of fun that is incredibly distressing to the elderly, dementia sufferers, war vets and those with PTSD etc (see my previous posts for more)

I don't know how many more times people have to say it's not spoiling someone's fun over a baby and a dog. It's really fucking distressing to them and yes it IS louder than average household noise!!!

But you sit there in your perfect little noise free bubble I guess, and fuck everyone else.

MrsKeats · 05/11/2021 20:29

Read the room sting
It's not fun for all the myriad of reasons listed.

Can you buy some earplugs tomorrow?
CaveyWavey · 05/11/2021 20:29

My garden is covered in firework debris, cardboard and plastic tubes. It looks like confetti all over the garden, flat roof and skylights. I'll have great fun cleaning that up tomorrow Hmm

My dogs are a bit better this year though thanks to selio medication.

Ezydoesit · 05/11/2021 20:29

Going against the grain here and will say I like hearing them - takes me back to my childhood. Something really nostalgic about the low rumble of them all around. That said, it’s not that loud here though.

there are "quieter" fireworks and the ligttle "golden rain type are not noisy but quiet aerial fireworks don't exist. fireworkcampaign.com/the-truth-about-silent-fireworks/

The noises outside my window right now keeping my child from sleeping cannot be compare to any household noise. If the level of noise outside was coming from my house the police would rightly be coming to have a word on behalf of my neighbours.

I'm not being a fun sponge or asking for them to be banned entirely but organised displays should be the only time they are used. One person's right to set off mini bombs in their postage stamp back garden should not trump their neighbours right to not be disturbed for months on end.

toolazytothinkofausername · 05/11/2021 20:30

It would be okay if the fireworks stopped at 10pm. In my area they continue to go on throughout the night Angry

I would like to highlight your post for the many people here saying it's just a bit of fun and shouldn't be spoilt over a baby being awake or dog being scared.

This is also my reality and the reality of a huge amount of other people in the Uk who suffer from PTSD.

And again, that's without considering dementia sufferers, kids with sensory and emotional issues, the disabled and the vulnerable.

Stop going on like it's just about pets!!!! ITS NOT JUST ABOUT PETS!!!!

gingercatsparky · 05/11/2021 20:31

It's a bit of fun. Chill out.

IrisAtwood · 05/11/2021 20:31

I have serious heart problems and there have been some truly enormous bangs and flashes here. They make me jump and trigger some arrythmia.

I hate fireworks. Bad for animals, people with a variety of anxiety disorders and those who just want some peace.

Oblomov21 · 05/11/2021 20:31

Love fireworks. No pets, only go to an organised display, but love them.

Whinge · 05/11/2021 20:32

Well said!!

I 100% agree. It's completely selfish and downright dangerous.

Moofart · 05/11/2021 20:33

I farted and woke the baby up yesterday. Ain't no way he is sleeping this bonfire night

A580Hojas · 05/11/2021 20:33

Where do you live that fireworks are let off 4 months of the year? I've heard some in the last couple of days (Diwali) and tonight obvs. I live in fairly central London. Are there places where it's a more or less constant factor?

JudgeJ · 05/11/2021 20:33

@jgw1

Luckily the NHS isn't currently about to collapse and there are plenty of spare beds in A+E for morons who let of fireworks into themselves.
Any spare beds will be filled with the regular drunks and drug addicts who waste the time of A and E every day of the year, not just a few days in November.
Thatsplentyjack · 05/11/2021 20:33

*Tell that to my terrified and elderly, dementia suffering grandmother! And no, it's not one night, it's months, and it scares her every bloody time.

There are thousands of elderly people like her, and war vets, who will be suffering tonight.

There is a massive difference between a huge loud explosion every 5 seconds and a dog barking in a garden. What the fuck.*

I feel awful because this is something that hadn't even crossed my mind, or refugees as a pp said. We don't buy fire works, or anything actually. Infact we are all in with windows shut and tvs on for the dog, but now this is all I'll think of tonight.

L0bstersLass · 05/11/2021 20:33

@MrsKeats

My kids never slept through this . Selling gunpowder is a bit last century in my opinion. I have a friend who is an A and E nurse and she had some horror stories about fireworks.
She'll have horror stories about cars as well but we still sell those. Fireworks are fab. We've only started getting obsessive about pets since social media. I grew up on a farm and we had bonfire night and fireworks and there were no issues.
