Louis Vuitton wallett

Ann51abc · 31/10/2021 18:08

Hi I’ve been gifted this LV wallett for a special occasion celebration by DH and I don’t want to sound ungrateful but won’t it just be hidden in my bag most of the time? It’s genuine so cost a lot of money but it’s a wallett isn’t it - so would it be just in my bag or would I carry it around as you would a clutch?

@steff13

It's a wallet. A purse is a bag. A clutch is a type of purse. This thread is confusing.
It’s a purse. A purse is what you keep cards and cash in. A clutch is a type of bag.

Are you American? In the UK a purse is most definitely not a bag. Men have wallets. Women have purses. Women usually keep their purses in handbags.

It is now!

Whatwouldscullydo · 31/10/2021 21:15

Am I the only one who would wonder what he'd done if gifted a wallet that cost hundreds of pounds? Grin

In a serious note I'd nip it in the bud tbh. Large spends should surely be discussed . I'd rather have a new fridge than a wallet no one would see.

Fallsballs · 31/10/2021 21:20

I wear expensive underwear but it doesn’t mean I have to flash on a daily basis or start a thread on what pants are for if they cost £100.

Tee20x · 31/10/2021 21:21

Don't use it as a clutch. You'll look like one of those people who can't afford the real one and are trying too hard to fake it.

TillyTopper · 31/10/2021 21:29

Sure the answer to "how do I use it?" has to be as a clutch if you can fit everything in it that you need, or as a purse/wallet in a bag if you can't. That would be the deciding factor for me.

WhatAShilohPitt · 31/10/2021 21:37

It’s quite clearly a purse and it’s advertised as one. It’s flat and looks too narrow to fit in a mobile and lipstick in. If you can fit that in, use it as a clutch. If not, put it into your bag as a purse. It makes no difference if other people can see it or not - it’s supposed to be for your use and pleasure. If you use it and like it, then it does the job!

BurtsRedShirt · 31/10/2021 21:45

Why would you even be considering carrying it as a clutch? It’s a purse. Just cos it’s LV. Weird.

Mayorhum21 · 31/10/2021 22:08

It's a really thoughtful gift op! It's a wallet/purse I do see the odd teenager carrying them about like a clutch but l wouldn't personally.

It will last you a lifetime as well LV stuff is indestructible!

Mayorhum21 · 31/10/2021 22:10

Oh I see @Tee20x has told you the truth, yes don't it looks desperate!

Ike I said they are great purses even if you're not that into the brand as they are so hard wearing.

jetadore · 31/10/2021 22:20
@MattHancocksSexTape look at the last sentence of my OP: “ so would it be just in my bag or would I carry it around as you would a clutch?”
Look at the preceding sentence of your OP:
” I don’t want to sound ungrateful but won’t it just be hidden in my bag most of the time?”

Sounds like you’re worried it won’t be ‘seen’.

Anyway the one you linked to is v nice without the tacky LV logo plastered all over it. It’s a purse/wallet, for keeping cash/cards. Use it however you like though.

steff13 · 31/10/2021 22:24

No, a purse is not a bag. Unless you’re American.

I am indeed

Thoughtful?

Designer purse for your wife.

Pretty generic really!

Which isn’t to say it’s not a lovely gift for her -but it’s along side candles and perfume in terms of thoughtfulness 🤣

NiceGerbil · 31/10/2021 22:27

I'd use it as a purse.

I'd lose it by itself. And I enjoy a capacious handbag!

Is he wanting you to show it off sort of thing? Did he think it was a clutch? Do you 'do' clutches? Or was he here's a nice purse?

Mayorhum21 · 31/10/2021 22:35

@Cocomarine don't be a dick eh!

NiceGerbil · 31/10/2021 22:35

The link even says wallet. Is there space for coins? I'm very fussy about purses!

Re only needs big enough for lipstick and cards. Sounds excellent traveling light!

I find all sorts of stuff in my handbag.

Had a rummage in pub other day.
Interesting.

Two pairs gloves one for small child with foxes on. Do not have small child.
A pipe. Do not smoke a pipe.
7 lipsalves.
Two penknives.
A biro from somewhere I have never been.

So that was interesting!

Use as normal purse. Depending on your friends etc many will assume knock off anyway probs. Which is good as it won't get nicked.

springiscoming12 · 31/10/2021 22:40

@steff13

It’s too small to be a clutch and you’ll look like you’re trying too hard.

Trying too hard to do what?

To show it off
NiceGerbil · 31/10/2021 22:44

I'm still concerned about coins.

myheartskippedabeat · 31/10/2021 22:44

I wish someone would buy me one of them it's a lovely gift 💝

NiceGerbil · 31/10/2021 22:49

Ah coins in middle.

Bung in handbag OP.

If DH wants it noticed. Get him to say loudly every time you take it out. Oh is that the Vuitton purse I bought you?

I'd use it normal and hope everyone assumed knock off if they even noticed which plenty won't!

Do you it though OP. My mum and gran had so many things they thought too good to use and so never were which is a shame.

TrainspottingWelsh · 31/10/2021 23:07

The purpose of expensive items is for their quality and durability. Not so you can show people you own them, whether that's waving them about or treating bystanders to sophisticated glimpses. Waving shit about to show people is about as tacky as it gets, and I'd go so far as to say carrying a kids handbag from Claire's accessories would look classier than using a purse as a clutch bag just because it's LV.

This thread however does have excellent comedy value Grin

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 31/10/2021 23:11

Get it snatched out of her hand by a bloke in a pushbike, most likely.
NiceGerbil · 31/10/2021 23:18

I've found over the years quality and longevity are not always linked to price.

No doubt you're paying for the label sometimes.

Some pricier brands are really good on quality though for sure. (Not LV level pricey! No idea on that...!)

DaphneBlake101 · 31/10/2021 23:28

Could you look at it as a gift that you'll get a lot of wear out of? I use a wallet every day so I would get to enjoy it all the time and get the use out of. Whereas I find with a bag, it'll depend on how much I have to carry, whether it matches my outfit etc. Especially with something like monogram that can be a bit showy in certain circumstances.
