Are my vintage tapestry shoes that bad?

I was in the charity shop today and found these I absolutely love them think they are super cute. I know some might find them awful but are they that bad?

They are vintage St Micheals (is that marks and Spencer) and made in England. Haven't got a clue how old they are but they are unworn and we're a bargain.

My granny had those exact slippers....she's dead 10 years now, that was quite a nice shot of nostalgia there so thanks for that. But yeah def slippers

CelebrateAndDream · 29/10/2021 19:08

Oh OP you have made me chuckle 😆

Enjoy your slippers...at least you'll be comfy 🤷‍♀️

DandyHighwayWoman · 29/10/2021 19:08

@Aquamarine1029

Those are slippers, albeit fancy house slippers. You can tell by the lining.
Is that you Hyacinth? Halloween Grin
Pinkstegosaurus · 29/10/2021 19:09

@Thesearmsofmine where are your ones from?! I used to have a pair of black velvety heels in this exact shape that I loved to death and would love to replace them!
OP - yes, I believe they are definitely slippers, i probably wouldn’t wear them out and about but only because I hate the soggy feet in autumn feeling Grin

iwishiwasafish · 29/10/2021 19:11

That brought back memories! I was made to buy these for my granny in the 80s. A new pair each year for Christmas. I can still remember the “posh” gift box they came in. I remember one year there was a matching toiletry bag.

Tangletester · 29/10/2021 19:12

I love them. I do think they’re slippers though. St Michaels was M and S yes. I think they’re a great find Smile

KateTheEighth · 29/10/2021 19:12

My granny had those

She wore them when she wore her velveteen house coat

godmum56 · 29/10/2021 19:12

they are fab.

SRS29 · 29/10/2021 19:12

@Northernlurker

Those are slippers. From the eighties I would guess.

Glad they were a bargain. By which I presume you mean they paid you to remove Them?

Brilliant 😂
fourquenelles · 29/10/2021 19:13

All that matters OP is that they are comfortable and you love them. What other people think has no relevance.

hotmeatymilk · 29/10/2021 19:15

Lovely. They’ll go well with a housecoat and beige tights.

darklindor · 29/10/2021 19:15

I'm old, they were frumpy slippers when I was young!

My auntie Gwen was GLAMOROUS, she had 3" high fluffy mule slippers! In pink.

Oh4Tunas · 29/10/2021 19:15

They go on your feet and aren't fabric on the bottom (wetness can't get through the soles)? In that case, I'd wear them wherever I pleased.

I'm certain I've seen people walking around in fuzzy slippers of the type that couldn't possibly be mistaken for anything else. The type that must have been fabric on the bottom, so that they got damp and filthy. That's disgusting, but as long as footwear has a hard, solid sole, who's to say what's a "house shoe" and what's a street shoe?

BrilliantBulb · 29/10/2021 19:17

Oh bless you OP you’ve made me laugh.

When you say you thought they were ‘vintage’ when roughly did you originally think they were from?

GoIntoTheLight · 29/10/2021 19:17

I like them. I bet you can pull off a look with them! Anything goes these days. My DD wore a vintage nightie last week!

GaolBhoAlba · 29/10/2021 19:18

@LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer

Yep sorry am sold slippers or not they are so cute am wearing a denim dress and they match perfect Hmm
They are the most slipperiest slippers ive ever seen. If you wear them outdoors, people will assume you've been let out for the day; there's nothing wrong in that, but you might want to be aware.
YouokHun · 29/10/2021 19:18

@LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer

I will prob wear them with leggings and oversized jumpers or PJs.
No, you must return to the charity shop and find the house coat and plastic rollers they were originally twinned with when they were prised off the American tan be-tighted legs of the recently dead pensioner they belonged to.

(Only kidding, you crack on and enjoy wearing them if you like them Grin )

LittleDandelionClock · 29/10/2021 19:19

I LOVE them! YANBU @LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer Ignore da haterz! Grin

1forAll74 · 29/10/2021 19:19

My late Mum had some quite the same, I think she bought them in the 1970's era. She only wore them in the Summer months, and sometimes she got things all wrong, as she also wore a lot of bright floral dresses in summer, with the floral tapestry shoes.! I liked her shoes though, and tried them on myself, but they were too small for me.

DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 29/10/2021 19:21

They're shoes. I like them.

GammyLeg · 29/10/2021 19:22

Love them! Wear them with pride OP. MN maybe not the best place to ask… 😂

HeronLanyon · 29/10/2021 19:22

Oooo I knew men and women who wore these in the 80s and 90s. Usually Pimlico or Westminster.
I am certain Neil Hamilton would have worn them ??
Now who gives a fig frankly.
Kind of feel we’ve gone through so much that we can wear what we want.
Hell I considered some crocs the other day !

Kanaloa · 29/10/2021 19:23

Ever since I saw the Irregular Choice shop nothing other people wear surprises me anymore.

You love them, so wear them. Someone wearing something they love and thinking they look cool will always look amazing compared to someone who isn’t confident in their own look.

BSideBaby · 29/10/2021 19:23

Surely only slippers have that kind of piping and 'velvet' lining? If you like them though OP who cares? I wouldn't wear them when it's raining though...

Walkingalot · 29/10/2021 19:24

I think Hilda Ogden wore something similar. Wear them with a house coat, rollers and a fag hanging out the corner of your mouth Grin.
