Are my vintage tapestry shoes that bad?

I was in the charity shop today and found these I absolutely love them think they are super cute. I know some might find them awful but are they that bad?

They are vintage St Micheals (is that marks and Spencer) and made in England. Haven't got a clue how old they are but they are unworn and we're a bargain.

They’re really very fugly slippers!

Viviennemary · 29/10/2021 18:52

They're fine. But they look like slippers to me. I had a black velvet pair once from M& S in a similar style. Never wore them . They were too small.

They are unworn for a reason!

Unsure1983 · 29/10/2021 18:53

I love them.

HestersSamplerofCarrots · 29/10/2021 18:54

Yes, they are slippers.

But if you love them, who gives a fart what other people think?

TeeTotaller1 · 29/10/2021 18:55

Sorry to piss on your chips but no....just no

(A candlewick dressing gown, a copy of 'The People's Friend', a hairnet and 7 cats might improve the look though 🤷‍♀️)

thefamous5 · 29/10/2021 18:55

I think they're cute. I'd wear them out as shoes even if they are slippers - skinny jeans or trousers, plain top and leather jacket to rock them up, or denim skirts and dresses.

NotSoNewAndShiny · 29/10/2021 18:55

Front view - they look more like slippers. The side view with heels, I don't like. Would've been cute ballet shoes without heels. Those, I would wear.

But OP, you love them. That's all that matters. They look lovely on you. Wear them with pride!

SpeckledlyHen · 29/10/2021 18:56

@Blueeyedgirl21

Please only wear them with black jeans/dress

Please not with ‘cutesy’ vintage style dresses

Please

OP, I'm sorry but it doesn't look vintage vintage.
It looks like you're wearing some slippers you found it your granny's wardrobe.
I also hope it doesn't rain.

Matildalamp · 29/10/2021 18:57

I love them, and have embroidered shoes that everyone thinks are slippers. They’re comfy and cute, what’s not to like!?

viques · 29/10/2021 18:57

You will be fine - as long as you don’t wear Norah Batty stockings with them.

They look like carpet slippers. I have some, made out of actual Turkey carpet, with full leather sole & low heels. Inside shoes.

Northernlurker · 29/10/2021 18:58

I think the styling suggestions are fabulous. For 1980s m & s polyester slippers Grin
Mumsnet has it all!

viques · 29/10/2021 19:00

I have form for this, I once went to work wearing my little Chinese embroidered silk slippers, not with Norah Batty wrinkles though.

Changechangychange · 29/10/2021 19:01

Slippers. Which is fine if you like them, but might not hold up to walking about outside much. Slippers usually have much weaker sole than shoes, and won’t necessarily stand up to rain or dirt.

Anonymous48 · 29/10/2021 19:02

You are being unreasonable by asking for other people's opinions. Does it really matter what a bunch of random strangers think? Are you that insecure? If you love them, then just enjoy them.

Personally, I think they're hideous.

Alvinne · 29/10/2021 19:03

OP don't listen to the haters, they are great! Who cares if they are house slippers or shoes. They look great

Lupinhere37 · 29/10/2021 19:04

My Nanna had an Ercol sofa in that exact material. I’ve had a good trip down Memory Lane now, op. Thank you!

lynntheyresexpeople · 29/10/2021 19:04

They really are dreadful op, I'm sorry! Please don't go out and about in slippers - especially those

Lynne1Cat · 29/10/2021 19:06

If you like them, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Incidentally, I think they're hideous, sorry.

DorothyCotton · 29/10/2021 19:06

Deffinately slippers or house shoes, my Grandma had those exact ones!

Mercurial123 · 29/10/2021 19:07

I had a suitcase made from that material in the late 80's.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 29/10/2021 19:07

Yeah, deffo slippers. But if you're into that whole cottagecore aesthetic you wear them with pride, babe!
