Are my vintage tapestry shoes that bad?

I was in the charity shop today and found these I absolutely love them think they are super cute. I know some might find them awful but are they that bad?

They are vintage St Micheals (is that marks and Spencer) and made in England. Haven't got a clue how old they are but they are unworn and we're a bargain.

M&S have recently revived the St Michael label as a nod to their past when M&S could be trusted to sell massive pants that would see you into your twilight years, Crimplene™️ frocks and chicest of chic tapestry slippers, sorry, shoes. So you are clearly ahead of the curve @LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer

Clarabellawilliamson · 29/10/2021 19:25

If you like 'em, wear 'em! If you're into vintage Marks and Sparks I recommend the Twitter account @MandSHeritage they explained how to use the code mentioned earlier to date an item too!

AuntMargo · 29/10/2021 19:25

LOL they are slippers not shoes !

Doingtheboxerbeat · 29/10/2021 19:26

They are the most slipperiest slippers ive ever seen. If you wear them outdoors, people will assume you've been let out for the day; there's nothing wrong in that, but you might want to be aware.

Grin omg Grin.

apricotdreams · 29/10/2021 19:27

I imagine them worn with tan pop socks Grin

tulippa · 29/10/2021 19:27

St Michael being referred to as vintage has made me feel really old!
They're horrible, sorry.

cushioncovers · 29/10/2021 19:27

Eww no I don't like them at all.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 29/10/2021 19:27

I don't care if they are slippers, at least they are foot-shaped - not always a given in the footwear department.

They look rather dainty and have a fairytale quality to them.

But if you decide you don't like them, at least leave one of them on the steps of a castle and see if you can rustle up a prince for yourself.

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 29/10/2021 19:29

They have a hard sole so okay for out and about..... These bad boys are off out onto the school run next week Halloween Grin

And the pop socks with a nice quilted dressing gown and a hairnet!

ZenNudist · 29/10/2021 19:31

I'm sorry but they are very Nora Baty. If you like them and you can make them work go for it.

I like the heeled tapestry shoes posted up thread.

Oh my. I look forward to hearing how they went down on the playground Grin

How much did you pay out of interest?

FindingMeno · 29/10/2021 19:36

I bet you can make them work.
I think the most stylish people break the rules.

BungleandGeorge · 29/10/2021 19:37

You must be young, that was a really popular slipper of the 80s! Tapestry is ‘in’ isn’t it. I think you can get away with them but I doubt they’ll last 2 minutes if you wear them for walking outside, especially if they get wet. Slippers aren’t going to be made in the same way as shoes and they’re probably 30/40 years old!

Callixte · 29/10/2021 19:38

I had some tapestry ballet flats from Zara; bought them in Greece in 2012. They had a black background and a more classic low front than yours, but similar in pattern. I loved them and wore them mostly with jeans, cigarette pants, or short shirts. My only concern with yours is that they may not be very durable, but hey - everything wears out eventually.

WhyMeLord · 29/10/2021 19:38

Yes. Yes, they are.

DoleWhipFloat · 29/10/2021 19:43

I think they are awful. But, as long as you like them, that’s all that matters.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 29/10/2021 19:44

I remember those slippers.

Classic 1980’s/1990’s Granny slippers. You could get loads of matching stuff. Bubble bath etc.

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 29/10/2021 19:46

They were £1...... I have just turned 30 so suppose they aren't as vintage as I imagined but hey I thought they were shoes haha!.... Well they are now

stingofthebutterfly · 29/10/2021 19:48

Well, at least you'll fit in with the slipper-wearing gang at the school gates.

They are pretty hideous though.

AnyFucker · 29/10/2021 19:48

Those pippas will not survive the school run in November. No way .

PyongyangKipperbang · 29/10/2021 19:50

Yes they are classed as "Vintage" these days (which depresses me no end!)
Yes they are tapestry
No they are not shoes and if I saw you on the school run in them I would wonder why on earth you had to borrow your grannys slippers to pick the kids up.
Also....they are fugly!

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 29/10/2021 19:52

Let's put em to the test. Kids back next wed will wear them each school run and any shopping ect I do my walk there and back in a mile Wink
