I was in the charity shop today and found these I absolutely love them think they are super cute. I know some might find them awful but are they that bad?

They are vintage St Micheals (is that marks and Spencer) and made in England. Haven't got a clue how old they are but they are unworn and we're a bargain.

They look like the slippers I got my wee Scottish Granny in 1982.

They look just as awful 39 years on.

Freddie28 · 30/10/2021 21:59

M&S had matching suitcases, they used to make me cringe every time the MIL brought them out.

Row1n · 30/10/2021 22:14

I think it depends how you style them as pps have said. I could see them with black tights as well as it gets colder but avoid wearing them out in the rain, altho that waterproofing spray for shoes may help if you get caught out.
Scuff the soles with a pumice stone if they're smooth, thats what my Granny did for any fancy shoes I got that had smooth soles back in the 80s!

HoneyItAlreadyDid · 30/10/2021 22:22

It doesn’t matter if they are actually slippers on not, if you like them, OP, you wear them!

thebuswontfit · 30/10/2021 22:25

They're slippers. Dont wear them outside. Especially in the rain 🤣

Whose · 30/10/2021 22:30

I think they're horrid BUT I don't have to wear them so who the fuck cares what I think?
I'd not even notice someone else wearing them.

Go and enjoy your slippers, OP.
and take pleasure in all the young 'uns helping you with your shopping when you wear them Grin

Scattyme · 30/10/2021 23:50

I think they are slipoers or house shoes as they were called. They are nice though. Ypu wear them how you want to.

Tigertigertigertiger · 31/10/2021 06:26

People are saying
They are slippers, with a heel
They are for old ladies

As if these were bad things, when they are both very good things

Fluffmum · 31/10/2021 07:07

70s slippers they will be excellent quality. I’d buy them

LimitIsUp · 31/10/2021 09:26

tapestry doc martens
For the poster upthread who said they didn't exist

LimitIsUp · 31/10/2021 09:29

@LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer - I don't love these shoes but am curious to see how they look with various outfits. If you are having a quiet Sunday, could you take a few photos with various outfits please (cropped to anonymise)? I'm really curious as to whether they could work

Christ, those are truly hideous as well. But apparently I stand corrected.
QueenBee70 · 31/10/2021 09:46

They are Mark’s and Spencer’s slippers . An unwanted gift probably .

If you like them then wear them . Who cares what others think.

deedeemegadoodoo · 31/10/2021 09:51

My Nan had these customised with slits for her corns and bunions! Ha!

Having said that, if you like them, wear them.

Benjispruce5 · 31/10/2021 09:52

Slippers.

Annaram1 · 31/10/2021 12:26

How very cute.

Annaram1 · 31/10/2021 12:34

I actually had a beautiful tapestry skirt once and got admiring comments every time I wore it. Wish I'd never given it to the charity shop.

jamdonut · 31/10/2021 12:57

I’m sure my gran had some exactly like that from Marks&Sparks …(I’m 57 now)

chaosmaker · 31/10/2021 15:34

OP, I don't understand the question. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of them, YOU like them and that's all that is important. Other people needn't look at them, comment on them or wear them so the question is unreasonable :D

UltimateBugKilla · 31/10/2021 17:12

They look great op, wear those bad boys and enjoy them!

maddy68 · 31/10/2021 17:19

Honestly? I think they are horrific. Sorry 😔

Ddot · 31/10/2021 21:23

You rock em girl

eeek88 · 31/10/2021 21:26

I think they’re awful.
But I have no dress sense.
Does that mean they’re actually great?

I think you could pull them off if you combined them with the right clothes etc. Not sure what those would be, mind you. If you like them then wear them and enjoy.

Ciaobaby92 · 31/10/2021 21:27

I think they're very cute I would wear them with a casual dress, green or khaki would be nice. Or maybe with a pair of slim fit trousers if you're into that. Will also look cute with leggings.

ArcheryAnnie · 31/10/2021 21:30

It's not the shoe, but how you wear them - and what you wear them with.

You love them - style it out!
