Are my vintage tapestry shoes that bad?

I was in the charity shop today and found these I absolutely love them think they are super cute. I know some might find them awful but are they that bad?

They are vintage St Micheals (is that marks and Spencer) and made in England. Haven't got a clue how old they are but they are unworn and we're a bargain.

They are slippers OP. Back in the day 'older ladies' slippers had little heels - because, you know, they were meant to be pretty and feminine at all times.

I'd agree they're Marks and Spencer from the 80's perhaps - my nan and great aunts always wore these types of slippers.

I'm glad you're happy with your vintage find and i hate to rain on your parade, but they're old-lady slippers. Enjoy them, but don't wear them outside unless you want folk wondering if you realise you've gone out wearing your slippers.

They are slippers.

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 29/10/2021 18:23

Do slippers have a heel Shock no one's going to see the inside when my feet are in them Grin

Google images suggests that having a small heel is a thing for tapestry slippers so might be best to keep them for inside the house

MrsPatmoresPinny · 29/10/2021 18:24

They are definitely slippers - my Nan had a pair in the early 90s.

Disfordarkchocolate · 29/10/2021 18:24

I remember old ladies wearing them.

nocoolnamesleft · 29/10/2021 18:24

Slippers.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 29/10/2021 18:24

When you said tapestry, I was thinking more along the lines of Bayeux Grin That would be special, though I suppose you'd have to have feet like Sideshow Bob.

RiojaRose · 29/10/2021 18:25

I think it depends what you wear them with. Black skinny jeans and a leather biker jacket might work (mind you, I said might). Laura Ashley floral dress from the 1980s not so much.

Firtrees · 29/10/2021 18:25

They’re brilliant. If I had seen them in the charity shop I would have bought t m and worn them as shoes! Maybe with a denim dungaree dress! Good find OP

Yes, some do. Those slip on ones with furry stuff on used to have a kitten heel.
girlmom21 · 29/10/2021 18:26

They'd be ok as ballet pumps but the heels add about 30 years onto them

RitaFires · 29/10/2021 18:26

Those look like slippers my Nan had, so I wouldn't buy them. But if you're happy with them, who cares what other people think. They're probably very comfortable.

idontlikealdi · 29/10/2021 18:27

Definitely slippers! They're dreadful, but if you like them go for it

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 29/10/2021 18:27

Haha I can belive they are slippers Blush I am often called an old lady in my tastes Blush funnily enough am wearing a Laura Ashley dress today definitely not from the eighties though.

OP posts:
GoodnightGrandma · 29/10/2021 18:28

I think they used to be called house shoes back in the day.
Posh ladies didn’t want to be caught in slippers, so they wore these.

ParkheadParadise · 29/10/2021 18:28

Are my vintage tapestry shoes that bad?

Aye

AnyFucker · 29/10/2021 18:28

Old ladies used to wear slippers with small heels because their calf muscles had shortened due to decades of heel wearing and they found it painful to wear flats.

JaneJeffer · 29/10/2021 18:28

They are brutal.

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 29/10/2021 18:28

I will prob wear them with leggings and oversized jumpers or PJs.

OP posts:
Blueeyedgirl21 · 29/10/2021 18:29

Please only wear them with black jeans/dress

Please not with ‘cutesy’ vintage style dresses

Please

GemmaRuby · 29/10/2021 18:29

My MIL refuses to wear flat slippers, she must wear a heel at all times.
Definitely slippers.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/10/2021 18:29

They are slippers!

DoctorSnortles · 29/10/2021 18:30

Excellent. Enjoy them, OP.

In the spirit of the times, they are whatever you say they are.

RiojaRose · 29/10/2021 18:31

To be fair, I have no problems with Laura Ashley dresses, recent or vintage! Just probably not with those slippers Grin
