Are my vintage tapestry shoes that bad?

I was in the charity shop today and found these I absolutely love them think they are super cute. I know some might find them awful but are they that bad?

They are vintage St Micheals (is that marks and Spencer) and made in England. Haven't got a clue how old they are but they are unworn and we're a bargain.

with a hairnet and Carmen rollers

Ilovetea33 · 30/10/2021 01:37

I don't think they'll last very long if you're going to wear them out and about in all weathers.

JustJoinedRightNow · 30/10/2021 02:28

@category12

They make my eyeballs sad.
Grin That made me laugh.

OP, I think they’re cute, and I think if you want to wear them, wear them!!

kwiksavenofrillsusername · 30/10/2021 02:30

I like them! My grandma used to have a set of luggage in that tapestry style. I think we should bring it back. Tapestry all round.

SilveredPinkPetal · 30/10/2021 04:43

Definitely slippers

SilveredPinkPetal · 30/10/2021 04:45

Think my mother had them, they do velvet ones with bows now, heel still there, but the design changed recently.
Slippers, don’t leave the house in them

Mercurial123 · 30/10/2021 05:02

@RobertaFirmino

Laura If the very same shoes had been bought from Hush for £139.95, it would be 'Oh, what gorgeous shoes, how divine and exquisite!'.
I would disagree Hush are overpriced and rubbish quality. And those slippers are still ugly.
nonicks · 30/10/2021 05:04

Sorry I skimmed over heading and thought you meant tap shoes as I’d love a pair. Saw your photo of your slippers, not my cup of tea but better than the furry stiletto ones!

Rainbowsew · 30/10/2021 05:10

Tbh I think you can get away with them as quirky shoes, especially if you are already alternative in your dress style Wink

GemmaRuby · 30/10/2021 05:28

Okay they don’t look as bad on as I was imagining.

notthemum · 30/10/2021 06:14

Around 40/50 years ago my sis mother in law had slippers like those. Complete with little heel.
Sorry OP but, they are definitely slippers and extremely ugly ones at that.

3luckystars · 30/10/2021 08:24

I just can’t stop looking at them.

ThinWomansBrain · 30/10/2021 08:35

Not my taste, but if you like them...
if they're slippers, probably not too durable or suitable in bad/wet weather, but if you didn't pay a great deal for them - reuse, recycle...

inappropriateraspberry · 30/10/2021 08:58

They are old lady slippers. Everything had a heel in the 80s!
I live a bit of retro/vintage, but they just look dated and frumpy.

inappropriateraspberry · 30/10/2021 08:59

They'd go really nicely with a swollen ankle 😆

MrsFin · 30/10/2021 09:03

I love them but also think they are slippers.
If the sole is suitable you can wear them outside if you want to though.

FindingMeno · 30/10/2021 09:07

@inappropriateraspberry

They'd go really nicely with a swollen ankle 😆
Harsh. But you made me laugh GrinGrinGrin
malificent7 · 30/10/2021 09:11

They are not hideous...tbey are cute...go for it.

inappropriateraspberry · 30/10/2021 09:13

I also agree that the camp is a touch too high, making it look frumpy.

inappropriateraspberry · 30/10/2021 09:14

Vamp!

WakeUpTired · 30/10/2021 09:30

I like them! I love a quirky shoe and a charity shop bargain so they are right up my street

CounsellorTroi · 30/10/2021 09:41

I like them. I think they’d look good with skinny jeans/jeggings. (Waits for 😂 responses.)

Binglebong · 30/10/2021 10:13

With that piping I would say slippers. But it is absolutely about how you style them - I think you can pull them off. No one is going to look closely enough to spot the slipper element - they will be great!

Incidentally wearing a little heel isn't always vanity. I have flat feet and can't wear ballet shoes as if they limit the spread of your toes you need a raised heel. I can't wear flat sandles either. Which is a shame as they're pretty!

justaweeone · 30/10/2021 10:15

I had a hold-all made from that material from M & S that I bought in the 80's

HazelandChacha · 30/10/2021 11:14

@MorrisZapp did she then point him in the direction of the kettles? Grin
