I was in the charity shop today and found these I absolutely love them think they are super cute. I know some might find them awful but are they that bad?

They are vintage St Micheals (is that marks and Spencer) and made in England. Haven't got a clue how old they are but they are unworn and we're a bargain.

I'll tell you what, they'll be nice and comfortable. There was a reason all the grannies used to wear them!

Isaidnomorecrisps · 30/10/2021 18:33

Laughing - they are classic. If you like them then seriously who cares 🤗

ShrinkingViolet9 · 30/10/2021 18:37

Marks & Spencer dropped the "St Michael" name in 2000. I have several vintage skirts with the "St Michael" label in them and a s/h wool "St Michael" sweater still going strong. The quality of M & S was much better back in the day and the fabrics used for skirts and the amount of fabric used, much better.

I think, if you go out in them, you run the risk of someone kindly bringing you back home!

moofolk · 30/10/2021 18:53

They are slippers, and yes, in the 1980s old women wore 'house shoes' with a bit of a heel.

These look they are made out of a three piece suite my grandma used to have.

But who cares?!

I have plenty of clothes that other people hate and I don't care. It makes me love them more.

I have plenty of friends who wear things that I think are awful but they look great in them because they are happy and confident that they are in their own style.

Go for it

Santina · 30/10/2021 18:53

I remember my nan wearing these slippers in the early 80's. Not sure how well they would cope being worn as shoes.

Madjakelmum · 30/10/2021 18:58

Awful!!

furbabymama87 · 30/10/2021 19:00

Wouldn't be seen dead in them. They remind me something my 75 year old auntie would wear with an elasticated waistband skirt.

one of them big flowery ones that come to just above the ankle.
IReallyLikeCrows · 30/10/2021 19:07

They're not my cup of tea but if you like them then that's all that matters. God knows I wear some stuff that other people say things like "Oh, is that new" and then nothing else. We should all wear what we want, love what we want, and fuck the begrudgers.

labazslovesliving · 30/10/2021 19:09

yes at one time in the house ladies wore housecoats a sort of cover-up over their clothes to do housework button-up Emily Bishop style and heeled slippers saying that though they look no different to ballet pumps to me and yes I would wear them

Blossomtoes · 30/10/2021 19:11

I reckon you’d have to be very young and edgy to get away with those as anything other than the slippers they were originally sold as.

fleurbelle · 30/10/2021 19:14

I'm 52 and wear my youngest son's hoodies
With ripped jeans ( old not designer)
And usually wellies.
I don't give a flying fart what folk think.
But yea they are super hideous!
Wear them with pride!

dworky · 30/10/2021 19:18

They're surely slippers?

Violinist64 · 30/10/2021 19:22

They are slippers not shoes and l would not wear them. I would not have worn them in the eighties/nineties when they were originally sold. They are slippers for old ladies. I do have a few vintage St. Michael clothes and they are much better made and have a much more flattering cut than modern clothes but I don’t like these slippers. However, it doesn’t matter whether l or anyone else likes them or not if you like them and I bet you have the style to pull them off.

Tigger1895 · 30/10/2021 19:52

They look like slippers

Shoes, and if you like them that's all that matters! Enjoy x

DaisyStiener · 30/10/2021 20:06

I have a tapestry weekend bag in a cat pattern which I bought in Camden market so I can’t judge…Grin
I’ve only ever seen little old ladies wear the print as a mad fleece or in a shopper bag hahaha

DobbleBobble · 30/10/2021 20:29

I wouldn't wear them but if someone else wanted to wear them as shoes I wouldn't think anything of it.

Strangevipers · 30/10/2021 21:05

Wear them OP

and

Wear them outside who cares if they are slippers

Ontheblink · 30/10/2021 21:12

They are cute, and I think you will be able to pull them off with the leggings and baggy top, but then I love a quirky shoe to finish what would otherwise be a plain outfit. I have a lovely brocade pair from Nine West. Mmm may pull them out and do something similar

HTH1 · 30/10/2021 21:17

Yes they are, sorry.
