I was in the charity shop today and found these I absolutely love them think they are super cute. I know some might find them awful but are they that bad?

They are vintage St Micheals (is that marks and Spencer) and made in England. Haven't got a clue how old they are but they are unworn and we're a bargain.

With that piping I would say slippers. But it is absolutely about how you style them - I think you can pull them off. No one is going to look closely enough to spot the slipper element - they will be great!

You wouldn't want to wear them out in the rain. The upper is fabric lined with sponge and, more importantly, the sole and heel are smooth. Slippers by name and slippers by nature...

I may have discovered this on the kitchen floor playing dress up in my grandmother's identical house shoes.

OhWhyNot · 30/10/2021 12:22

My nanny had these slippers

They blended in with the arm chair

mountbattenbergcake · 30/10/2021 12:26

I think they’re lovely but I wouldn’t be able to wear them, I’d need them to be much softer.

OMG I bought a pink version of these in Primark recently!

She could always rough the soles up with something sharp. People used to do this with new dancing slippers in the old days to avoid undignified accidents in ballrooms.

TeeBee · 30/10/2021 12:29

They're very ugly.

minatrina · 30/10/2021 12:35

I think they're lovely, OP! But I am very much into the granny-chic style so perhaps I'm biasedWink And I wouldn't really care if they were slippers. Maybe don't wear them in the rain, though! 🤣

FlibbertyGibbitt · 30/10/2021 12:38

Nope, awful. Charity bag them .

Why should she?

I bet there are some things in your wardrobe we would find ugly. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

IslaPineappple · 30/10/2021 13:03

I hope you have a great day out in them

Actually, my grandfather used to do that. I'm not sure it helped much.

I really wouldn't wear them out, at least not if there is any chance of rain. The upper used to stretch and mould to your foot so I have visions of OP getting caught in the rain, the sponge soaking up the water until they weigh a ton and the fabric stretching until they fall off her poor sodden feet or the glue dissolves Grin

HeronLanyon · 30/10/2021 13:15

And when no one is looking why not close your eyes and click your heels three times. They look kind of ‘special’ in that way ?

Arrowheart · 30/10/2021 13:17

A pair of American Tan tights and a housecoat is all you need to complete the look.

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 30/10/2021 13:17

My beloved granny had these slippers!!!

UncleHerbie · 30/10/2021 13:19

Your slippers are at least 20 years old as M&S dropped the St Michael clothing brand in 2000. If u like em, wear em

Chikapu · 30/10/2021 13:23

Hideous, like my dear, departed nans slippers.

Whistleforthechoir · 30/10/2021 13:32

My grandma had these slippers too (and she died over 20 years ago!).

Thanks OP, seeing those has reminded me of my lovely grandma and brought a smile to my face 🥰

VestaTilley · 30/10/2021 13:35

YANBU, but they are slippers; my late DGM had a pair.

BertramLacey · 30/10/2021 13:40

But that's where the OP got them from. So they're alright for someone else to get from the charity shop but not her? I wouldn't wear them, I think they're dreadful, but if the OP wants and likes them, that's fine.

thereisonlyoneofme · 30/10/2021 13:44

My ercol furniture used to have cushions in this pattern fabric, sorry !

Romemarie · 30/10/2021 13:48

Reminds me of a bag my nan had when I was about 7.. it was a bag she used for over night stays. 🤣

RedCouch · 30/10/2021 13:50

If you like them Op that's all that matters!
